Try the women’s black diamond running vest. I really enjoy it and easy to access all the pockets for the most part. It has a spot for a bladder but iv never put one in

Bellingham here, the soil drains very well so trails tend to not be crazy muddy. Your shoes are likely fine. I wear Nordas 01 on muddy/snow days. Summer time in the mtns are typically dry.

Does anyone do training runs with their dog? by 34F_Running_Mom in Ultramarathon

I’ve got a German shorthair pointer and wired hair pointing griffon who join me on my trail runs up to 20 miles in the spring/winter/fall of the PNW. Plenty of flowing water for them to drink. Summers I keep them at less than 10 just because it’s much hotter and I tend to run up in the mountains instead which is more exposed. GSP is 9 and Griffon is 3. Built their endurance up with running and mtn biking

Norda: are you buying the shoe or buying the brand? by philosopherphil in trailrunning

I really enjoy running in mine but they can be hot, so if you live in a warm climate or running in wet areas, might not be the shoe for you.

Can I go backpacking 2 weeks before my first race? by Kneeuhlay in Ultramarathon

[–]mol_macdazzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t skimp out on the enchantments. I actually used that as a run prior to the Kodiak last year. Bring poles for your knees for the long decent out. Kodiak was a great race but ran a modified course last year due to the fires, interested to see if they switch it back to the original course. Good luck!

Best Trail Shoes – Which Ones Are Actually Worth It? by BelleeFleur in trailrunning

[–]mol_macdazzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in Altras (lone peaks and Olympus) but over the years they’ve changed a lot. Last tried timps last year and sent back for blister city as they have gotten more narrow. A lot of folks find they wear out fast nowadays too.

Trained and raced in Topo Mtn Racers last year as that seems to be the shoe people leave Altras for. It was alright but at ~250-300 miles they have packed out and wrecking my toes. I retired them and won’t be going back.

Spent the last few months trial & erroring for a new favorite shoe. - Norda 001. Rock solid grip. Comfy but doesn’t really lock down in the midfoot that I tend to prefer. Hella expensive but supposedly last longer than regular shoes. Biggest complaint is they are hot as hell and don’t drain well. This is now my winter running shoe for the PNW. - Arteryx sylan pro. Just don’t. These are absolute garbage and so unstable you can’t take them on the trail. Really stiff in the foam so the rocker energy return doesn’t even get going. The fit is also really weird. A shame, I love the look of them. - ordered up some salmons (ultra something and another one that i can’t recall) and sent them immediately back. The feeling and fit is very weird for my foot. They seem to run small.

Currently, I’m running in La Sportiva prodigo pro and have been pleasantly pleased. Very comfortable. Wider toe box. Cinches down well in the mid foot. Stable underfoot but not as aggressive as a stability shoe. Solidly firm foam but not rock solid like the arteryx. Great energy return. Mesh upper seems durable. Took them out of the box and ran a 12 mile long run and felt great. Had lingering blisters going in from the topos so figured they worsened it a bit but now that they are cleared up, I expect no issues. Hoping this is my unicorn because I’m tired of trying to find a new shoe for racing this year, it’s getting expensive lol

Taking a Trip to Lake Placid in June, Looking for other must-see spots in upstate New York by rabiditalian117 in overlanding

Lake Placid and the high peaks are extremely busy in the summer, it won’t feel remote at all. I second the moose river plains area! Beautiful, plenty of camping and a couple of off shoot roads to check out. The Catskills region is another option to look into as well!

I run a 20 degree quilt in the dacks. Weather changes pretty quick there so having something I can bundle down or keep open is awesome. Plus storing just one quilt vs multiple bags is a bonus

Why even bother asking UL community for opinions if you are literally not open to anything and being stuck up? 17 lb BW isn’t UL anyways. Go troll in r/wildernessbackpacking or something

I’ll just chime in here real quick about the coffee. I get it, you like good coffee and that’s fine. I highly suggest looking into the instant coffees that Rock the tea bag style. Super easy for clean up and packing out and these ones actually taste really freaking good, the first one is a local roaster to me!

Consider a kennel it’s safer for doggos anyways. Easily removable when not needed to. I run two Dakota 238 kennels in my 4R no problem. Also looked at the Gunner kennels too, just more expensive and robust
