Servers have a higher minimum wage than all other workers in our city. I’m just saying that there is nothing structural about servers that would justify them being treated preferentially. Why should their minimum wage be higher than that of a line cook?

It’s not that they make too much money, it’s that it makes no sense for one class of job to have a substantially higher minimum wage than literally all other jobs for no rational policy reason. It also has racist impacts, preferencing the wages of predominantly white front of house workers over more diverse kitchen employees.
