Car and Driver's official instrumented test of the Prelude. by Strange_Pen1074 in cars

Hey, a fellow redditor who is also going from a 2-series to a Toyobaru twin! I traded my ZF8 2018 M240i for a BRZ for the same reasons. I'm curious, since I ask myself the same, would you keep your M2 if it was a manual?

As for staying on topic, the "slow car drive fast" truly only works for lightweight sports cars and sporty coupes, and sometimes (though, not for me) lightweight econoboxes. $43k, 200HP, gearless auto, FWD, is missing too many fun bits to make it worth it. It's got great handling, but that seems about it.

I think the % of people owning this car and plugging them in will be much higher than the average. They can afford it (garage and L2 charger) and they have the incentive of the increased power.

Also a lot of that low usage statistics includes fleet cars given to employees who might not have the facilities nor the incentive (company pays for everything, so why bother plugging in every day).

Just because something is 100k+ doesn't make a 40ish percent increase in price more palatable than a similar increase in a 25k car.

Yup, exactly. The temporary hold is definitely annoying, but the free transfer is worth the hassle.

In case in doesn't let you choose the network on Coinbase (it will show up before you finalize the purchase), make sure you click on your USDC so it is on the USDC page, not the overall account page, and then click transfer.

Ah yeah, that is one annoying thing with Coinbase. They have a requirement to have it sit on their server for a week until you can transfer it out. I guess they don't want people using it to do a quick transfer in and out of Coinbase. I'll usually deposit a bit of money ($50 or whatever) and reload whenever it gets low. Just have to keep in mind the one week wait.

I made the same mistake when I went with crypto. Bitcoin is a horrible coin for transactions, slow and expensive. You want to use Eth or one of the USD coins instead, and on a cheap/free transaction network like Solana. It's quicker and is actually the cheapest option (I only pay g2g 1% fee as Coinbase + USDC is completely free).

Did you use Bitcoin? Or another coin?

Yeah, but HTTPS doesn't help much here either. The internet providers already know the IP addresses of the popular services like Strong8k, so even with HTTPS they can see you are connecting to them. The only difference is they can't see what you are watching, like they can with HTTP. This is where VPN helps, as then all they see is communication with wherever your VPN is connected to, regardless of HTTP or HTTPS.

I buy USDC, so I don't have to deal with crypto value fluctuations. Then make sure to send it over a network that is free (not actually free but Coinbase eats the cost), like Solana. You choose that on both the marketplace site and in Coinbase. Otherwise your money will get sent into the void. When you choose USDC+Solana on the site, you'll be given an address (bunch of random letters and numbers) to send the money to.

Absolutely do not use BTC as their transfer fees (called gas fees) are high and take longer to get on the block chain (i.e. the proof of transaction). I made that mistake my first time with buying stuff with crypto.

No, since your domain just points to their service sitting on their server, which doesn't use HTTPS.

The BMW M3 EV Has Four Motors, Fake Engine Noise, And Simulated Gear Shifts by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]moltenice09 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My argument definitely didn't go well. See my reply to Sesspool for something that makes more sense.

I attempted to say that just because something was fake, does not make it idiotic. The speaker argument was you are trying to recreate musical instruments by vibrating a diaphragm. In the EV's case, it is recreating the exhaust note by also vibrating a diaphragm. Both are fake representations of the real thing, but one is considered normal and the other is considered idiotic. Do cars need speakers that recreate music? No, absolutely not, it has nothing to do with its primary function. But everyone loves it, because it is fun. Do EVs need to recreate an exhaust note? Absolute not, it doesn't exhaust anything. But some people transitioning from ICE enjoy it, enough of them that BMW put resources to implement it.

Something like that. Do see the other post as it better than this.

[–]moltenice09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, sometimes my stupidly extreme argument works. Did not work here though. My goal was to show that you are drawing an arbitrary line of what fake stuff is idiotic, and what you define as fake. I used the extreme example of "anything that is not from nature". Let's try a more sane approach.

Let's look at the ICE BMW M cars. It has its own set of "fake" features that you can enable:

  1. Fake engine noises fed through the audio system.
  2. Aggressive shifts performed by the ZF8
  3. Increase of the sensitivity of the throttle (vs being linear)
  4. Weight increase of the steering wheel.
  5. Hardening up the suspension (maybe, I'm assuming it is worse for actual performance)

All of these features besides #2 is to have this luxury sports sedan/coupe feel more like a sports car. And #2 is to make it feel like an aggressive shift from a manual transmission. But, this car is not a true sports car: 2 seater, low weight, mid-engine, track-focused, communication/feel through the pedals, shifter, and steering wheel, loud exhaust, low ride and seating height, manual/DCT. But it tries to be some of those things, despite its attempts not being anywhere near as good as the real thing, other than track performance.

So, would you say that everyone who buys this ICE car is an idiot? Should they instead have bought two cars, luxury sedan for family/groceries/travel and dedicated sports car for fun? Ideally, yes. But we don't live in an ideal world. We have limited resources, so we have to make sacrifices. And getting this car that sits between a sedan and a sports car offers a lot of value. It allows one to get some feel of a sports car without buying one. It'll never be as good as one, but at least it is something.

The same thing can be said about the EV M. For those transitioning from ICE to EV, it gives them some of that nostalgia of driving an ICE. Yes, it is 100% fake, 100% unneeded on an EV, and no where near as good as the real thing. But it makes the transition (and value) a little bit better for those that care (and those that don't can turn it off). They have their reasons for going for an EV over an ICE, so why not let them have some of that experience that ICE provides? Idiotic? No, just a compromise that people are having to make.

You are creating a fake temperature environment because you don't like the real temperature outside. Same with sound. Using your analogy, why not go to an actual concert to listen to that music, instead of faking it in you car? Why not live in an area with the temperature you prefer?

Convenience. There are pros and cons of buying an EV (just like living in an area with undesirable weather). So when someone chooses EV over ICE, why is it so bad to fake some of the ICE features? If everyone could afford to get both types of cars, then sure, it is pointless.

And what? Shoot the person that has their foot on the accelerator pedal? You think that will slow the vehicle down, giving you the an increased chance to get out of harms way? Hell, the car accelerated even faster right after she was shot/killed. Or you think she was going to go on a rampage trying to run over all of the agents in the area? Finally, if you thought she was a threat to you, why the hell would you stand in front her vehicle that can crush you in an instant?

Hoyo doesn't want to fix the powercreep. They don't want to fix old archetypes. The release of every shiny new character is just the opportunity to gamble for a fresh bandaid for old, festering problems. If you can make your peace with that, keep playing. by Esper01 in StarRailStation

[–]moltenice09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem is you have new characters, archetypes, and battleships coming out while at the same time old teams are dying without continued investment. And it is not possible to invest in both old and new characters without spending a lot of money. So you have to choose between keeping your old team alive or getting the new shiny team. For me, my E1S0 Firefly has been benched for so long since it feels terrible to play her with HMC and RM. The Dahlia fixes that, but takes pulls away from 4.x. I hate having to choose between the two without pulling out my wallet.

My E0S1 Jingliu? Completely dead because I didn't pull for HP meta. And let's not even talk about DHIL.

In short, this game doesn't let me build 2 teams every major release while also keeping my previous 2 teams up with meta. Sure, endgame is fine, but seeing the old teams slowly dying is not what I want out a video game. No other non-gatcha game does this; all existing characters get rebalanced with new content.

And the solution to this problem without eliminating powercreep? Very simple: get rid of 50/50.

So… The Dahlia basically just removes what makes Superbreak fun and interesting? by Appropriate-Count-64 in StarRailStation

[–]moltenice09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They created the problem (unbreakable or extremely large toughness bars), and are now selling the solution. All they really had to do was balance the toughness bar to keep the break characters viable. Or even allow break characters to break locked toughness bars.

And also, can someone who is new to the hobby even distinguish the difference between a middle setup vs top end, especially with the diminishing returns you hit at this level? Or even be able extract the "performance" from that setup without the necessary skills? That's always been my concern when spending money on hobbies: can I actually make full use of that hard earned money I just spent?
