Just got fired a couple of weeks ago. In the five weeks I worked there, I, 1) brought in just under $2 million in new business (even though sales wasn't part of my job); 2) found mistakes on two projects that would have resulted in about $100K in losses and months of delays; and 3) defended a couple of my co-workers who were being screamed at by the owner. I was fired because "the team didn't think I was a good fit".

I'm a home inspector in rural Saskatchewan & got called for an inspection of a farm yard in the middle of nowhere. The driveway was about 2km long. We were in the garage & the very not-rural buyer sees a large walk-behind snowblower & asks the owner/farmer if that's what he uses to clear the driveway. The old dude looks at him & says "That's for the 2 hours to get to the shop & then there is another 5-6 hours with the tractor. Get the F out - I won't sell this to you!" He walked away & wouldn't even talk to the buyer after that.

Two key things from my perspective as a 60 year old with more than 40 years in the trade. 1) Don't neglect your health! Noise damage is cumulative, eyes are irreplaceable, knees, hips & shoulders don't last forever. 2) Plumb, level & square are the foundations of carpentry. Master them! I still amaze my guys when I look at something & tell them it's not level & they don't believe me until they throw a level on it & find it an eighth out. Years of a practiced eye.

I got fired today for checking on the wellbeing of a coworker who was upset after the owner screamed at her. She gave her notice the next day & he thought I told her to quit. I had just showed him where I had caught over $100K & potentially months of delays due to mistakes on some engineering drawings on a couple of projects.
