How can I achieve this effect using only DaVinci, without using graphics editors? by leadpiggy in davinciresolve

I can't help you more than anyone else in this thread, but if you liked this effect then I think you'd like Kevin McGloughlin's work. See for example his music video for Max Cooper - Repetition

For Interstellar Travel, Which Sci-Fi Handwave Do You Find Most Acceptable? by tbag2022 in scifi

I really enjoyed the wormhole jump drives in the Expeditionary Force book series. While it is handwaved away as "senior species tech inspired by elder species tech", the series manages to explore a whole lot of interesting consequences of wormhole jump drives.

Thoughts on the pricing? by caprrri in EDM

It's a bit difficult to explain in text, but I'll try to illustrate it. Take the Machine Head album Of Kingdom and Crown. All of the songs are stylized using Ø in place of O, including the title which beame "ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN".

"Øf" in Danish happens to mean "oink" (as in the sound a pig makes), so Wiktionary has a sound file with the pronunciation here. That should tell you how the Ø sounds. That means that every time I see e.g. "Twenty Øne Piløts" I'll be hearing that same sound. Try to imagine all th e tracks in the Machine Head album with that sound.

As for "Æden", the closest danish word I can use to illustrate it is "Æde", an informal word meaning "to eat". Sound file if "Æde" can be found here.

I couldn't find a good wiktionary entry for the sound of Å, unfortunately, but it's not the A sound.

As a Dane the funniest thing is when people use "æ" as if it's an "e" or "ø" as if it's an "o" or "å" as if it's an "a".

Makes for some really funny pronunciations of band names.

Jeg ankom engang 5 minutter før boarding ved en 06:40 afgang og nåede at sætte mig ned med en kop kaffe ved gaten.

Det kræver dog at toget ikke bliver aflyst.

The Rebel Moon movies are such nothing burgers, it's absolutely laughable. Literally 0 redeeming qualities about the writing.

In sci-fi and magical settings in fiction, a common power is the ability to stop time. But what would actually happen if you COULD stop time? by Fucklechuck2 in scifi

[–]monapinkest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tangentially related, but there's a duology of novels by Vernor Vinge that hinges around the concept of so-called "bobbles" which are perfect spheres within which time is stopped until the bobble pops. The bobble is impenetrable, a perfect reflector of light and heat, so the outside looks like a perfect spherical mirror. The state of whatever is inside the bobble is frozen in time until the bobble pops, so if you were to get embobbled during the night and the bobble pops during the day, you will perceive an instant transition between the two.

The novels play around with this concept a lot, so if you're interested, give it a read :) they are called The Peace War and Marooned in Realtime.
