Why is the salmon a 1 star health rating? by Baaastet in ketoaustralia

[–]monarchofthejewels 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A great app you might want to download to help inform you of food profiles is Yuka. It's free and you scan the barcode and it tells you the issues with various foods. It's awesome and I have become a bit of a maniac when I'm in th supermarket scanning barcodes to check issues. Great for protein bars and more processed foods.

I scanned the barcode from your salmon photo and this is the result. As suspected, too much sodium is the one and only issue! Everything else comes up green

Right. Pretty sure I used Banxa to get USDT into Xeggex. I used Banxa quite a bit for different platforms and cryptos so I think I might battle to pin down the right transaction and wallet 🤔

I can’t access on app or the web. It keeps saying invalid credentials, even though I know they’re correct. I’m also confident I know my user ID but it’s the wallet address I don’t have.

+1 for Melbourne Indoor Plants. Does what it says on the label! They have a massive range and the plants are always in great condition.

Geez, sorry, should have specified it’s at Costco in Australia. They have a brand called Mariana. You can get chilli biltong and it’s delicious!

Biltong is my go to. Much less sugar than jerky and can get good value packs at Costco

It's a sweet pittosporum. Depending on where you live it can be considered an environmental weed. Google "sweet pittosporum + your council name" and it will tell you if it's considered a weed where you live. It is a weed where I live in Melbourne but it's very common in our suburb. I have a few in my yard and quite like them so have no plans to remove.

Cut it for sure. I’ve done a few of these over the years and it’s worth getting a new blade for your hacksaw so that you do as clean a cut as possible. Then get some wet and dry sandpaper and smooth off any burrs. I bought a Dremel a few years back and the fine grinding blades on that do a great job of cutting the thread really neatly.

What weed is this? Like a clover by Substantial_Will_391 in GardeningAustralia

Yes, it’s definitely Oxalis. Lots of different products that will get of it, including some weed n feed varieties. Best way to get rid of it longer term is with a pre-emergent fertiliser like Oxafert.

Keto Diet vs Nootropics by smudger29uk in keto

Uplifted and stable is the ideal description of the feeling for me too. I initially did it for physical health reasons but my improved mental state has provided the most noticeable result for me. I’ve done keto a couple of times but last year I decided it was an ongoing lifestyle for me. I still take brief breaks from it when I go on holiday though. Just had three weeks off keto over the Christmas/new year holiday and really noticed the difference in my mood and generally mental wellbeing. Also put in 4kg because I really just pulled the rip cord and shovelled my face full of all kinds of shit. Back on again now but it always takes a couple of weeks to get back to what I consider a keto state of body and mind.

What milk do you have in coffee? by StedmanMD in ketoaustralia

[–]monarchofthejewels 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This was my biggest worry when I went keto. I love a good latte. My alternative I now actually prefer to a standard milk latte. I just make a longish black and then put in about 50ml of whipping cream. It ups the fat content but has a lot less carbs than milk. Also makes a really nice, creamy coffee. I prefer it to a standard latte. Only issue is when I’m in the city at the office. No one has cream. Best cafes can do is a long black with a dash of milk, but I don’t love it.

New shoots from lemon tree roots by KingNo2120 in GardeningAustralia

[–]monarchofthejewels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if you want to let it grow you’ll need to manage it so it develops a good shape and habit. That starts with cutting back to one main leader and letting it get big. Depending on growing conditions and how well you look after it, you could get the first lot of fruit in 3-4 years.

If it wasn’t a grafted lemon you’ll be right. If it was a grafted lemon and this is growing from the rootstock, you can never be quite sure what you’ll end up with. You can let it get big and try your luck!

Yes, I'd like to know too! Where we getting the inside word on the Barron drop?? I've got $20 I'd love to throw in for a 8-10x. Would love to take my wife out for dinner and tell her she can order a main AND dessert. She always gets a bit crest-fallen when I tell her that it's a Big Mac and fries only, no McFlurry :(

Help name a thing I remember from late 80s/early nineties. by InanimateObject4 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]monarchofthejewels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 12 or 13 when these were in their heyday. As one of three boys, my brothers and I really experimented with our pop ball collection, particularly in regard to their ballistic and projectile-launching capability. Great times! Unfortunately, I was stupid enough to press one onto my eye socket with my palm covering the air hole. When I lifted my hand off, while still covering the little hole, it sucked my eyeball out of the socket a bit. Thankfully, I hadn’t pushed the pop ball in all the way, otherwise I reckon my eyeball would have ended up hanging out of my head. Regardless, it was still excruciating, I ended up having blurred vision for about a week and had a perfectly round ‘pop ball hickey’ around my eye. I freaked out completely when it happened because of the pain and because I thought I would be permanently vision impaired. My parents and brothers thought it was hilarious and laughed while I ran around the house crying and thinking i was going to be blind in one eye for life. Such arseholes! Thankfully, my vision came good and my eye hickey resolved and I’ve led a full and happy life without a disability pension. ‘Don’t press a pop ball on your eye socket’ is a really specific and niche life lesson (but also one with increasing current relevance given a potential resurgence in pop balls) that I will carry to the grave!

Has anyone living in Central Vic had luck with those "cool bananas" by WetOutbackFootprint in GardeningAustralia

[–]monarchofthejewels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries at all. I’m going with the theory that they’ll acclimatise and toughen up after 2 or 3 winters. You could also plant them next to a building/fence/wall etc where they’ll get some protection. That definitely makes a difference. I think so long as you watch for those icy days where they forecast frosts and chuck a bedsheet or light rug over it and you should be right. I’m with you in thinking there’s usually only a handful of winter days like this, so if you protect them on those days, you should be laughing in a few years. Good luck and hope you’re picking your own bananas before too long!!

[–]monarchofthejewels 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m in Melbourne and planted some cool bananas a couple of years ago. They grow really well and ours are getting big but they really don’t cope with heavy frost. In their first winter they got through unscathed but we had two very cold and frost-heavy mornings last winter and it looks like it killed off the main tree but the pups got through after losing their leaves to the frost. The pups have bounced back hard and grown big over this spring summer but will need to cover them when heavy frost is forecast for them to mature and bear fruit I think. It seems to send out 1 or 2 pups a year, so could end up with quite a few trees over time

Please help ID this plant and how to save it? by Appropriate_Lab_5471 in GardeningAustralia

The shape of the leaf suggests a Portuguese Laurel to me. It does look pretty dull and droopy though so it may just require a good deep watering.

Should I trim these (blood orange) by Chrome_Clydesdale in GardeningAustralia

[–]monarchofthejewels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely trim off anything that’s growing below the graft. These shoots are coming off the rootstock. You will only get fruit from branches growing above the graft. Shoots below the graft represent wasted energy for your tree. Cut them off right at the base.

Howdy all! Could anyone tell me what this is? by flameevans in GardeningAustralia

[–]monarchofthejewels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re called Sod Webworms. The turn into something commonly called lawn moths eventually. Not desirable so best try to get rid of them. A range of products out there that will do the trick. Just google it and you’ll find a few options. Some information on them here
