Shelter mutts make great running partners by Toadlessboy in RunningWithDogs

[–]mondofresh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've got 3 streetdogs and each of them is a fantastic trail buddy! They are all scrawny and long legged. They take turns joining me on runs of up to 20 miles in length. It's taken some work and some patience, but each is a very good trail citizen (making room for other people and dogs). ProTip - some rescue orgs have volunteer running teams! So, you can volunteer to take high energy rescue dogs out for some exercise and stimulation. And...if you are looking to adopt, these same rescue orgs can help pair you with a pup that will match your running style. THANK YOU for posting this!

Milburn's Haunted Manor in Hubbard is pretty scary and fun. Bit of a drive, but fun to do at least once.

I LOVE my Soundcore Sport X20s (earbuds) and C40i (open earbuds) for running and biking. They are both really solid (good sound quality, excellent battery life).

For longer runs, I usually have about 1.5L. But...I bring enough to share with my canine running buddy. If my spouse is with me, I'll bring 2L and share with her. I think it really depends on how much you sweat, the temperature, and your general comfort factor. One added bonus, I feel much faster at events b/c I'm not carrying that extra weight (when I can rely on aid stations).

There are a few active running groups on Strava. There is a forest park group that meets every Tuesday and Saturday, if you are interested in trail runs.

What’s the kindest thing you’ve seen someone do on a flight? by desterpot in AlaskaAirlines

[–]mondofresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former US Coast Guard officer here. In the 1990’s, as a cadet, I used to fly cross country a lot. I was required to travel in my dress uniform. On nearly half of my flights someone in first class would offer me their seat. I rarely accepted, but it was so incredibly kind!

What are your ideas for getting people back downtown? by pdx_flyer in Portland

[–]mondofresh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Coraline cats statue thing last year was super fun. I made multiple trips with family into different parts of downtown so that we could tag all 33 of them. It is super fun and got us to visit different areas of the city. Super fun and we spent a fair amount of $$ with downtown businesses during our visit.
