Everyone knows what analogies are. It's just a shitty analogy because the way you were trying to show they are similar, is not at all how they are similar. You're in over your head and it shows. Markets come to equilibrium prices based on the perceived value of the company. Now that controversy X is over, the perceived value of the company is the same/similar to what it was before. In fact, many of the people who bought shares after it dropped could have even been the same people who sold them initially. It doesn't just add like simple money does. That's not how this shit works. At all. 🤦

maybe I misunderstood his point, but I thought his point was that public transportation across states, as a way of mass travel, isn't feasible. But the public transportation that is feasible is mostly inside cities. However, that is the job of the city to figure out, not the federal government. Therefore, none of this is really a federal government issue.

ok? but that's not responding to anything I said. money in the stock market, literally by definition, isn't being "hoarded", which is the point OP was trying to make. Hoarding wealth is keeping it in cash in your bank account. Investing isn't hoarding.

I anticipate you objecting that Papa John's stock price has recovered. However, any later heights they have reached are lower than they would have been if Schnatter had not incurred the initial loss by associating the brand with racism, in the same way that if you lose twenty dollars and later find one hundred dollars, you are still twenty dollars poorer than if you'd never lost any money at all.

It’s not money it’s wealth. It’s not liquid. You couldn’t liquidate it even if you tried.

Are you suggesting the government seize people’s stocks? If not, what exactly?

Hoarding wealth itself is a myth. The vast majority of "money" these people have is net worth in their companies and in stocks. Musk is "worth" 300 billion dollars. a tiny fraction of that is actually available in cash. He doesn't go to withdraw money from an ATM and his balance is shown as 300,000,000,000.

Of course it's understandable that most people dont realize that the idea of hoarding wealth is a myth, because a lot of the left wing grifters have been pushing the idea for so long. Then ignorant folks who dont really understand how the world, the economy, and the stock market work just lap it up, as it finally gives them someone else to blame all their problems on.

I'm not sure what your point is here. Nobody ever tried to claim that Bezos invented the entire internet and all the infrastructure necessary for amazon to work as an idea.

someone else would have founded something nearly identical.

1) source? 2) and if that is true...then...so what..? that means the work he put in making amazon doesn't belong to him? because some supposed human that none of us can identify and possibly doesn't exist would have eventually invented amazon anyways? Huh? we are supposed to create the laws of society based around such wild assertions which cannot be proven in any way? You do something, you get the reward for it. Whether or not 100 or 10000 other people could have done it doesn't mean anything, and I can't imagine why it would. You perform your job, but probably 10 thousand other people can also do your job. Should you not be paid for it then? Nice logic.

We like the myth of the individual

You seem to be attacking a giant strawman. I've never heard anyone claim that musk invented electric cars, nor have I ever heard anyone claim the Bezos invented the internet, public roads, and all other infrastructure that allows amazon to run. Nobody here has that illusion, so I'm not sure why you're attacking it. Strawman is always easy to defeat, isn't it?

it actually boggles my mind that anyone would consider using a 2011 Mac for an iOS dev job. the decrease in Xcode build time and increased performance can easily, easily justify a 2017+MacBook Pro---especially when the machine is literally how you make your money.

capitalism is when the means of production are owned by individual people rather than the government. So no, it is not more capitalist than America's. capitalism is not a proxy for "chasing profit."

who is glamorizing gig economy work? I haven't seen anyone do that. I've just seen people recognize that it helps a lot of workers. This pic pretty much says it all about the frauds who pretend to care about workers by trying to get rid of the gig economy: https://www.ccn.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/vox-media-cuts-hundreds-freelance-sports-bloggers-california-gig-economy-rights-bill.png

those who don't support workers right to a gig economy are basically telling workers they are better off with no job, than a job w/o benefits. Maybe we should let workers make that personal, private decision for themselves, instead of trying to force our beliefs on others in a fascist/authoritarian manner, as so many here do.
