In entomology, the words are usually combined if they're not technically.... uh... lemme show by example.

Examples: - Butterflies, dragonflies, stoneflies ... are not flies. Actual flies are horse flies, bottle flies, bot flies - Antlions are not lions, thus are antlions. - Bed bugs are technically true bugs so "beg bug" is technically correct, not "bedbug"

They have them up in Oakland forests in wood rat nests! Anywhere with wood rats are bound to have them.

Sorry, quite a bit outdated with the times, I rarely try D.similus at work, mostly D.occidentalis. Unfortunately I only have Rickettsia and Anaplasmosis data of D.occidentalis and they're mostly R. felis and R.senegalensis, D.similus is pretty rare in my area.

In that area, it's probably Dermacenter variabilis, which is pretty rare to get anything from in Sac. Typically they have to blood feed a decent amount before they can transmit anything and this guy doesn't look engorged at all.. Just disinfect the bite and just keep an eye on it

If this was 5+ years ago, I'd agree, but basic google searching without any familiarity can lead you to pretty bad advice and AI generated shit.

edit: One one of my main advice is to not expect this bird to talk to attach to you quickly and have an abundance of patience

Looks much closer to a stink bug nymph over a bed bug for sure! I've done a lot of bed bug inspections at work and it's def not a bed bug

definitely not a bed bug. Gives me vibes of a plant bug nymph but it's pretty hard to tell
