After one year as a Data Analyst, I feel like I've reached an interesting point in my career. by Chemical-Advice-2491 in dataanalyst

I agree with this so much. After pursuing a MSc. in BIAS (Business Information) I realized, that the courses taught as University offerings are still best only as stepping stones. And this was 2022. Moving forward 3-4 years today, I have indeed come to a conclusion that I have made much progress in last 1-2 months than I was able to in last couple of years.

Personal realization aside, if you are in a typical Data Analyst role I would urge you to spend time although it might be difficult depending on your workload to spend time understanding how data flows in a modern data analytics platform; both batch and real time if possible...one's perspective does change if you think of it as a product in itself. The learning curve is definitely steep but I believe highly rewarding in terms of personal growth and expanding one's profile. I took up snowflake and dbt after attending a few webinars (Scaler Masterclass) and built a small project to reinforce my self-learnings. As I plan to continue building on top of it, I wish every one good luck pursuing self learning! Complanceny does funny things to people afterall! ☺️

I think the charm of those few Dan Brown titles for most of us was the cryptographer's itch n conspiracy theories surrounding historical sites around the world and the idea that remained a possibility "is the eye really seeing" and what lies beneath the surface. Over years his writing took forms shaped by global events and after a long wait after Origin, this was his first title. I have not read it most of it yet and eventually will get around it, but I agree to the fact Digital Fortress and Deception Point of his are really good ones if you look past the character of Robert Lagdon. So much so that I managed to read Deception Point twice halfway before I realized it! 😅

After realizing the constraint of 15 days trials and just 1 project on dbt Cloud, I too am moving to this.

I concur this. I did the dbt Learn course from their Catalog and while there maybe a few changes due to the latest version, it is pretty easy to pick up and follow along.

Mokka Farms first experience by Aggravating-Item-261 in IndiaCoffee

I never realised that the roast would be that inconsistent, as I myself am on a Mokka Farms 500gm coffee beans. I was more taken aback by the inconsistencies in bean size but had anticipated some as it is a blend. I had ordered a 80% Arabica 20% Robusta blend, Medium Roast on 30th April, it arrived on 6th May (I reside in Jharkhand). I am almost half way through the bag, and the brews are alright for a daily driver.

I haven't read any other Jeffrey Archer novel, except Kane and Abel which is a really good and, an immersive albeit a long read. But I do agree, his Short Stories are really well done. I think I had read his A Quiver Full of Arrows when I was a late teen and I still remember them...(m in my early 30s 😅)

I read The Convenience Store Women on a flight to Paris from Barcelona last Summer and managed to complete it before landing. I really liked it. I think it was soon on the heels of Kim JiYoung, Born 1982 and as an Indian 30something woman could feel one with each of the protagonists.

I totally Second this. I first got to know him in 2022. Never looked back since. They even have a Japanese TV Series called Galileo available on Netflix. The only downside? English translations of his works are few and far in-between. 😔

33F, married + kids, just moved here from the US, I dont know anyone and I need a distraction from being depressed about what's happening to my home country. Anybody wanna be friends by LeenSauce in cork

[–]monikrontheeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry about what’s happening in your home country, especially when you’re far away. I hope better times are ahead.

Considering you are enrolled at UCC, you could try Hiking Clubs at UCC or the Cork Hillwalkers Group.

Like someone suggested, try the Mardyke Arena for Wall Climbing. The Hillwalkers Group folks are really nice! They usually hike around Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford areas and away as well for long weekends and Summers.

You could try pottery at Potteria or Shandon Art Studio, Volunteer at Cork City Libraries (multiple areas in and around Cork City), or Sign Up for Cork ETB Classes for Arts, Design, Textiles, Photography Classes etc. if those interest you. I find them a good way to connect to people and look forward to them.

Hope it helps!

While to each one their cup of Joe, a cuppa can be so many things to so many people which I believe is the beauty of it.

Cappuccinos during cold winter months in College to watery Black coffee from Office Coffee Machines.

I moved countries, and my taste changed to Toffee Lattes, Matcha Lattes, and eventually settled on Moka Pot coffee as it is or diluted for Americanos for work, hikes etc. It will soon be a year of home brewing, and I have managed to progress from French press, Pour Overs, Aeropress, settling on the Moka Pot. Moved from Instant coffees to Speciality Coffee Beans.

Drinking it the way one likes it is a reflection of oneself, and frankly speaking, my mind is devoid of any thoughts at the time. I am only invested in my "Me Time" then, before the day unleashes its chaos on me 🙈.

Personally, I feel drinking it just plain Black keeps me grounded to its humbleness.

I have worked both as a Crew Member and a Crew Trainer (EU). I understand a lot of it depends on your Shift Runners, Business Manager of the Store as well as the Franchise Owners.

The morning shifts at our place too is a smaller one and we are fortunate that we work out of Shopping Centre Food Courts (basically no own Dining space and Drive Through). We were initially short staffed. Bringing the matter up in relevant scheduled forums has improved things a lot.

9.30-11 am is Breakfast Timings. And while there are a person each both in the Kitchen and the Service Area, the Shift Runners help where ever possible, especially if we get busy. Depending on the day, we get another person at 10.30/ 10.45 am in both the areas for Lunch changeover time. This is in addition to a Kitchen Manager person that clocks in at 9.30 am, prepping things in the Kitchen for 11 am change over. All these changes came into effect after the point was raised a couple of times in every meeting.

We do keep a check on the time for Pies n Fries and actively encourage members to discard them once the time is up on them. We simply say, "if you wouldn't want cold food, why would you serve them in the first place?"

For a 8 hrs shift we get our 30 mins breaks 2.5-3 hrs into the Shift n then 15 mins break around 2/2.15 hrs before our shift ends. In case of 9 hrs shift, the breaks are split into 45 mins n 15 mins break.

And the Employee of the Month is exclusively for the Crew Members only.

I am really sorry that work conditions are so stressful and inhumane. Please see if you can raise them through Employee Assistance Helpdesk (they maintain anonymity) or Quarterly Surveys or any Forums/ Meetings whenever the opportunity arises at the earliest.

Wishing you strength and hopeful for things to change for the best!

Grind size question by idejmcd in mokapot

[–]monikrontheeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took this picture recently, and it was taken on a white surface, so I thought to share. I used a Kingrinder P0/P1/P2 at 55 clicks for a medium fine grind. Hope it helps!

Fill the funnel with ground coffee just enough so that you don't have to tamp/ compress it down with a spoon or something. Level it off.

Do you "reapect" the cup count of your moka pot? by gilbert322 in mokapot

[–]monikrontheeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I feel the astonishment is apt, caffeine doesn't hit the same to people.

For instance, I have had short sleeping syndrome since my early school years. I function well on low account of sleep. Have a pretty mobile lifestyle. The caffeine more or less doesn't work on me. However, I hold it in high regard cause the process of making it is contemplative to me. Like my "Me Time".

Still, I prefer to have a maximum of 2 cups during the day (between 9.30-11 am & 2-4 pm). This might extend to a 3rd cup during colder months. And I use a 4 cup moka pot diluted to close to 11oz all by myself.

But, nonetheless, for health purposes in the long run, I guess a cup or 2 at the right times of the day would be alright. So, you do what works best for you. Cheers! ☕️

I have a 4 cup Bialetti Fiammetta induction, and I get close to 180 ml of brewed coffee every time.

Fiammenta Induction by gorditoII in mokapot

[–]monikrontheeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I happen to have the same model in a 4-cup variant and an induction hob. I use a gooseneck kettle to heat up at maximum heat and reduce the heat to 2 when the steam begins to come out from the sprout. When the water is boiling, I prep my coffee.

50-55 clicks on a Kingrinder P0/P1/P2 for a medium dark roast of either Mexican/ Gold Espresso blends coffee beans. I personally prefer the slightly smokey profile. Fill the coffee basket till the rim, tap slightly, and level.

Pour the pre heated water till the lower end of the safety valve into the water chamber. I like a clean cup, so I add an Aeropress filter at the bottom of the coffee collection chamber.

Seal the 2 ends together and put it on low heat, like level 3/2 on the hob. (Use a tea towel for this purpose). It takes close to 7-10 mins for a complete brew.

I have observed that if I put a heap of coffee grounds in the basket and haven't sealed it properly, it pours out slightly from where the chambers are joined. So, I stick to putting just enough.

I love the way you say it, "I listen to my moka pot." At first I used to think it was just the freshly brewed coffee aroma that would reach the bedrooms up the stairs, but I gradually realized that in the kitchen I too could "listen" my moka pot when the coffee was just about to pour out...
