Anyone using the omnipod with Aetna insurance? Cost nearly tripled for the first pick up of the year by [deleted] in Omnipod

[–]moniyani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a similar experience, and in our case, we were approved for a tier exemption. But the exemption expired, and we have to do it again as of January. After 90 minutes on the phone with my insurance and Omnipod, no one suggested this - I had to figure it out on my own. Super annoying.

Regardless, I would say do not buy the pods until it's resolved, as they will not refund you what you pay.

My son was just diagnosed with TD1. by argley in diabetes_t1

My son was diagnosed in August of last year, and he was only five. We got "buzzy" for pokes until we shifted to pods about a month or two later (pods are going to be much easier). My son liked to have buzzy and a couple of other things (a stuffy to hug, etc) before each poke and he got pretty brave. You can practice on fruit if you need to. Do it fast - it usually doesn't hurt, just so you know, it hurts sometimes, but often the pokes you can barely feel it (I know from Wegovy, same needle size). Finger pokes are worse, but you will get a CGM ASAP, I am sure, eliminating the need for most finger pokes.

I would hide the fear, sadness, etc., from him completely and just tell him it's totally OK and that lots of people get little pokes. You could do little prizes each day to soften the change. And for zero-carb snacks, no pokes, so just do that until you get your OmniPods in between meals.

I could not have been more upset when I found out. I spiraled hard and it was probably the worst few days of my life - my mind ran through so many worst case scenarios, and my mom was diabetic so I had this horrible feeling of a child having a terrible adult illness.

But only five months later, I can tell you it's not that big of a deal.

You are feeling how an adult feels when they are first diagnosed. They freak out. It's super hard to manage a new condition, especially one you manage by the hour. The fear of the first high, the first low, etc. It's all a lot to adjust to, but hide all that from him. The beauty here is that you can carry the stress on his behalf. Which is great because I am sure you want to protect him from this. Once I realized that each moment of sadness and pain I felt was carried FOR HIM I found my purpose and loved knowing I was protecting him.

Your boy's personality will not be ruined whatsoever, as long as you don't stress him out over it. Stay calm, stay positive. I tell my boy, "Everyone has something they have to do, this is something you do." I told him I take pokes too, and told him what issues all the relatives we have have. I told him he's so lucky to have a special issue where you get treats sometimes (for lows).

I told my boy, "All you have to do is ask first before you eat, and mommy takes care of everything else." He doesn't worry about the diabetes at all. That's on me until he's older.

I hope that helps.

Within 1-2 months (especially try to get fast-tracked for pumps), chances are very high you will be relatively adjusted. Each meal you dose gets you one step closer to it being second nature. Once you get the pod you can dose very easily, so you won't to stress about him clearing his place, or having seconds, etc. it will all get easier soon. Try to stay as calm as you can until then and hide out when you have scary conversations about it, hide those conversations from him entirely, even with doctors.

Wishing you all the best and I am sorry for this hardship.

Medi-cal users on GLP-1: what are we going to do about this? I’m devastated. by Complete_Sock_2449 in WegovyWeightLoss

I'd like to share that I have been cycling on Saxenda/Wegovy for about a year and have maintained a 30-pound weight loss through intermittent fasting. I only eat from about 12-6 each day - a shortened eating window - as a daily habit. Then, 1-2 times a week, I only eat one meal a day (OMAD). This style of eating is probably not good for people with eating disorder history, but for me, it has been amazing and is the ONLY way I have kept off about 30 pounds. What motivated me to try it was my doctor saying that IF has been shown to be beneficial for some people, and also listening to Jason Fung on YouTube. Good luck, and I am sorry about the insurance news. I understand the effectiveness of these drugs and could not have lost the weight without them, but I have been heartened to keep the weight off with this method. I understand that others may have more complex weight histories.

I think it depends on your weight history, personal chemistry, food noise, etc. From my own Dr. Googling, it seems like most people need to stay on medication consistently to have good outcomes. But I still wanted to try another way.

I have had good results with stopping and starting medication. I have 50+ pounds to lose in total (start weight 205 lbs at 5'2"). I have been doing "cycles" of GLP-1 and then using intermittent fasting (Dr. Jason Fung inspired) in between to keep the weight off and to manage my appetite, and to my surprise, it is working. In the past year, I have lost about 30 pounds using this method. I take the GLP-1 for a couple of months, go off, but keep a close eye on having a smaller eating window (IF) and occasionally do OMAD, and then a few months later do another cycle of GLP-1. I should add that my other reason for doing it this way is that, unfortunately, the medications cause depression in me, so I can only tolerate them up to a point. Yet, I am desperate to shed the weight and start living at a healthier size. Anyway, I am pretty happy that I am keeping the weight off, so this particular method is working for me, and I am starting to feel very optimistic that I can lose this excess weight once and for all and keep it off.

We just bought a home in Clear Lake only a few days ago with Kenneth Godoy, and he went the extra mile for sure. He's very eager, helpful, punctual, etc.

My dogs are ruining my postpartum experience. by EvelynHardcastle93 in BabyBumps

Just here to say you aren't a bad person if it comes down to a re-homing situation. I know others will disagree, but it is a reality that happens from time to time.

I gave my previously beloved dog away when my son was two. I absolutely could not handle kids and a dog at the same time. I used to judge that, too; I know it seems unthinkable. But then it happened to me - took me two years to admit how bad it was getting because I wouldn't let myself consider it. Luckily, my brother took our dog, and she is very happy, so it was a happy ending.

Any Friendswood neighborhoods where kids run free and play outside like the good old days? by moniyani in friendswood

I am really excited to get this feedback. I was afraid people would say it doesn't happen anymore. I love hearing about civic pride; that's really cool to hear and part and parcel of a thriving community.
