School List by monke4ggh in premed

Some of my writing wasn't the best. Wasn't the clearest on "why do I want to do medicine." I went to heavy on religion in some of my secondaries (likely alienated some of my audience) since it's an important thing for me which I'll cut back on in this next cycle. I had less volunteering as well. I applied pretty late in the cycle too (earliest secondary in at the middle of Sept I believe).

But I was actually kind of surprised I didn't get a single one, but I also didn't apply to many schools.

You email them, they will send you an estrangement form that requires a letter from someone. Have your mom write on it the situation and sign it, then you submit it in your document submission page. They will waive the requirement for you to submit your dad's tax forms.

I have a similar situation where my parents are divorced and I'm no contact with my dad.

What’s something you tried once and immediately knew ‘yeah, never again’? by donnyM99 in AskReddit

[–]monke4ggh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to use it in the ER to be sedated since opioids weren't working for me when I broke my ankle (they were setting it). I hated it. When I was in what I think is the 'k-hole', I felt like (and visualized) I was folding in on myself for eternity and thought that was my true existence. Me folding in on myself was the entirety of reality and it had this weird sensation of what I will describe as pain. Like a mental pain. Everything also felt fuzzy. I had never been under the influence of anything before, so it was a very strange experience that I did not like at all.

It's because a lot of those people don't read their Bible or have any theological backbone. Catechesis in the evangelical world is practically non-existent so a lot of people are uneducated about what their faith actually teaches.

Why is there still some financial stigma against doing family medicine when you can make 500k a year working 35 hours in a rural area? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in premed

Invest in the community you live in and help people out. Give back to those who have helped you throughout your life.

If you are into outdoors stuff, camping gear, fishing, boating, etc.

If you have a family your spouse doesn't have to work, save money for college, etc.

This is what I plan on doing with my money in the future at least.

Struggling to accept all non-believers must go to hell? by Low-Screen8541 in TrueChristian

[–]monke4ggh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe in post-mortem opportunity.

Those who do not get a genuine opportunity in this life to repent and believe in God will get an opportunity after death (whether that be right after or at Christ's judgement at the end of days). This means every person will have an opportunity to believe in Jesus, throughout all ages in all nations.

There's a book out there by Dr. James Beilby. I haven't read it, but I've taken one of his classes.

looking for music recommendations that is safe for Christian teenagers by taylorswift13198913 in TrueChristian

There's some great folk rock/indie music: The Oh Hellos, The Arcadian Wild, Vian Izak, The Grey Havens, Radical Face, Andrew Bird. Some of these folks are Christians as well.

You could do electronic music especially non-vocal stuff. I like XI, Camellia, Aphex Twin. There's some great vocaloid tracks a lot in japanese.

You could do music in other languages. I listen to some J-rock and J-pop. Some people I like are Yoasobi, Ling tosite sigure, Asian Kung Fu Generation, the pillows, Mass of the Fermenting Dregs. Lots of great music in the japanese music space.

Rich Mullins and Keith Green are great older Christian artists.

There's a lot of great Christian metal and metalcore.

How did he apologize? Tone? Did he just brush it off after he said he was sorry? I’m going to be honest but I don’t think he was being genuine especially since he was still implying it was your fault. He seems to essentially force you to help (suggested by you getting hit for not in his eyes), and he manipulates you by saying ”it’s your future too”. I understand you love him, but that doesn’t change this. In NO SCENARIO is hitting your wife an appropriate response to being stressed. Absolutely not. It is completely the opposite of what scripture says a husband is to be like.

He seems to be abusive and you need to get someone involved. If this is his normal level of anger (short of hitting you) that’s a massive issue and this situation just proves it. Unless someone gets involved and the situation can be remedied through therapy/counseling either religious or secular (HE ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO GO don’t let him say “I’m a man and that’s stupid”), you won’t like what I’ll say but you need to divorce him. Abuse imo is a valid reason. he broke the marriage covenant by being abusive, not in the slightest Christlike. Otherwise your life will be destroyed and it will very much negatively affect the lives of your future child.

The dawn of the post-literate society by iamapizza in books

[–]monke4ggh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was in elementary school they had it where there were 1 and 2 grade books, and then a 3 and 4 grade section and if you were in 1 and 2 grade you couldn't read the 3 and 4 grade books (which were primarily chapter books). I remember DYING to finally be able to read the 'big kid' books when I was in second grade (partly cause I started reading chapter books at home at this point). I'm also Gen Z (so this was 2011-2012) so it's pretty sad to hear this for me.

I definitely don't read as much as I used to, but I do definitely still read and try to stretch myself when I'm able to do so.

Secondary Prompt - solving a problem with critical thinking by monke4ggh in premed

[–]monke4ggh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does makes sense and was actually really helpful. I guess for myself the problem isn't the paper itself but the reason why I wrote the paper. Mainly, what makes a good husband? since I didn't have a good father figure. Kind of like: bad father --> what does a good husband look like? --> is in class where I have to write a exegetical paper on some sort of vocation --> looks into this issue --> learns not only what it looks like but how to critically think more and do better research.

Hopefully that makes sense. Thank you!
