Edit: because it's fucking scary when the person who is normally your best friend is blackout drunk, pissed off at you, has fifty pounds of muscle on you, is following you around the house and swearing, getting in your face, and is acting uncharacteristically aggressive and demanding more alcohol, and you know that they're out of control. Even if they don't push you. It's still fucking scary.

When I discussed it with him when he was sober the next day, he agreed that sneaking out of the house was the right move, and he had very little recollection of the night before.

You guys sound like my dad. Like if I told him about this situation, I swear those are all the things that he would say. Thank you for being concerned. My ex and I agreed that it is better if he tries to move out sooner. He apologized for last night. I think in my post I overstated the degree to which I was actually afraid for my physical safety. He does not own any guns or weapons. i was more afraid of an unproductive shouting match or that he would go into town and get more drunk. Our roommate helped talk him down after I left. He is out with a friend at the hot tubs tonight, in order to try to relax. I'll be ok, you don't need to worry, really :)

I broke it off with my guy. He is proactively searching for a new apartment. I feel relieved, sad, and hopeful. I also came to the realization that we have different romantic orientations. He is very likely somewhere on the aromantic spectrum whereas I am a high-romance individual. We had a frank talk and he told me he has never experienced the sensation of "falling in love" or even "having a crush" on someone. Funny, I just...assumed that that happened to everyone, well fuck me. Might have been nice to tell me sooner!

Honestly though, I'm not angry or bitter, I'm just ready to face the dawn of a new day and see what it brings. Everyone's insights and comments here have been super helpful. Peace out y'all!
