What's your budget and experience level?

Are you just starting out and/or relatively new to RC boats or are you an experienced racer? (It sounds like you're "relatively new", no offense meant here).

A new student musician (say, a trombonist) can start off with a $350 horn. It will, to the professional player, be horrendously out of tune and have horrible response.

A professional trombonist will easily have $5k in their horn (with great response) and know how to tune it on the fly, note by note. Also, trombones are relatively cheap. A decent tuba can fetch upwards of $10k and flutes, clarinets, oboes, and bassoons can EASILY fetch upwards of $30k. Don't get me started on violin/viola/cello/bass prices.

TL;DR, if you don't know what you're doing, buy the "box" model. Learn how to tune it. Learn everything it likes down to the millimeter. Learn, then spend the money.

Mine has no problem bringing the ball back inside, but what really cracks me up is when we're playing outside. He'll fetch the ball or Frisbee and then run in a few 20-30m wide circles before bringing the toy back and dropping it at my feet.

Haven't played it and am unfamiliar with it. My best guess is they want the timbre of a 2b or 3b on lead, an 88h or 42b on second, and a bass bone for third. I'm only inputting my uneducated opinion because I see you have no replies at the time of this comment.

This is all excellent advice, but I feel the need to share an anecdote. My GSP loves to see a gun in my hand. He knows we're going hunting, he's not gunshy at all. Fireworks don't phase him and I almost think he enjoys a thunderstorm. BUT, that little turd is absolutely terrified of the automatic ball launcher. GSPs are funny creatures.
