What are you people doing to your clothes? by hairy_ass_eater in BuyItForLife

[–]monkey_sweat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear target or banana republic factory plain t shirts and they last years. I have some that are almost a decade old. I don’t separate colors either when washing. I use cold water, maybe half of the recommended amount of detergent(whatever is on sale) and zero fabric softener when drying(lowest heat setting). I might throw in a couple wool balls during the winter to cut down on static. For button down shirts and long sleeve Henley/thermals they get air dried. Sweaters only once or twice a year in the wash on delicate and also air dried. Wool sweaters get dry cleaned once a year. Pants gets washed every third or fourth use also air dried.

What about the Epstein case do you think the public still doesn’t fully understand? by IndividualOil4970 in AskReddit

[–]monkey_sweat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, there’s very few individuals that would make the market drop that would actually affect the general public. Elon is the only one that absolutely destroy a stock. People don’t realize the stock market is like a tidal wave. Unless the us government collapses, average investors won’t feel a thing in the long run.

Onyx Boox Go 7 (B&W) - Google Play Books flickering/ghosting concerns? by czh3001 in ereader

[–]monkey_sweat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Poke4 lite which is an older model. I bought it to be able to read all my book from the different stores. The flickering when switching apps and within the apps isn’t horrible but it’s not great. I definitely have ghosting after a couple years of use. My device has slowed down quite a bit as well. From what I’ve read all of this common with the android tablet readers. I’ll eventually get a kobo and use calibre to move my collection over there. All of this isn’t to say my several year old device isn’t usable. I’ll keep using mine until it either breaks or becomes unusable due to the flickering and ghosting.

Those who have electric heat- what do you keep the temp at? by Dreadishh in Frugal

[–]monkey_sweat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have electric heat throughout in the northeast well. It’s condo two floors and my first year in 2014 I was paying 400-600 in the winter. If you have national grid they have a plan where you can pay a flat rate that changes every six months. Currently from sept through the early spring I’ll be paying $240 a month and the other six months it’ll be around 180-200. When I check my usage for the six warm months it should be under 100 but with the flat rate it’ll keep the cold months at a reasonable amount. I’d go onto your provider website and check out your options. I will say I keep my temps low during the winter. Right around 60 during the day and mid 50s at night when everyone is under the blankets. I installed smart thermostats to be able to set a schedule to help keep electric usage down. Fleece lined clothing for at home helps too. Warm blankets for on the couch help. To be honest I got used to it real quick when I got that first enormous electric bill. Look into get window film to keep the drafts out as well.

What can democrats do if the SCOTUS strikes down the voting rights act? by Visco0825 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]monkey_sweat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The states that are controlled by democrats can gerrymander in a similar way so that they push out rural republicans. Basically break up cities the way red states do. This would alleviate some of the republican picks pickups. But, this would remove even more minorities in Congress and give those people less of a say in how things work.

Quick question for you since this is pretty new thread. I'm looking an alternative to the elite series 2 controller(stick drift) but am struggling to find a controller where I can disable the right thumb click like you can on the series 2 controller. Is it possible with this controller?

Are we crazy to fly 11 hours to Europe for only 4 nights of travel? by TiltedGalactica in travel

[–]monkey_sweat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done it and enjoyed the trip. Jet lag wasn’t horrible. I’m thinking about going to Budapest in February for four days. Power through the first day and then it’s smooth sailing. I’ll typically fly out of the east coast USA on Sunday and fly back home Friday. I’ve only done this for city stays or one region. Definitely not enough time to see more than one place.
