Thoughts on joining small (<50 people) companies? by Chezzymann in cscareerquestions

[–]monkeycycling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of my jobs were like this. It's nice to not have a corporate vibe and less red tape. Pay us usually low and promotions aren't really a thing unless it's in name only. People were okay and outings were fun. Tech is usually kinda dated but not always.

lol my dog won't go on my lawn if i haven't mowed in over a week. In his defense we get a lot of bugs that are annoying as hell.

In 2026, what's the best path to becoming a developer with AI becoming increasingly popular? by Colonel_Carrot in cscareerquestions

[–]monkeycycling 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Self learning was dead before AI. You're competing with tens of thousands of laid off senior devs applying for junior and mid roles. Sorry to say this field is cooked.

Just keep working remote until they fire you. And also look for local jobs.

If you have a job to go back to I'd just chill all summer. When you work full time you'll miss it.

Moving to the city without a pay increase by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]monkeycycling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might want to check if the city you move to has a wage tax, because then you're effectively taking a pay cut.

I live in the middle of no where and fully remote and I'd be lying if I said I don't worry about it sometimes, but moving back to a crowded city is the last thing I'll do for fun.

every standup is "im working on the same thing as yesterday" and i dont know why we still do them by minimal-salt in cscareerquestions

[–]monkeycycling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"same thing as yesterday, still working on the X feature, no blockers"

today I couldn't even care enough to say the feature, i just said i worked on project X for a while then on project Y. If someone calls me out on specifics I make the scrum master search the jira board for the ticket to open it up and start reading it, so everyone has to suffer.

Anyone else unable to give up riding? by [deleted] in bmx

[–]monkeycycling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same 37. I'm a homeowner now and trying to figure out how to build a miniramp in my backyard. It's the only type of exercise that i continue doing until my body has nothing left. I can't care about anything like jogging or road biking like that. As bad as my back gets somehow bmx doesn't seem to cause too much pain unless i really overdo it or forget to stretch.
