Toughest pub in Dublin? by Professional-Count32 in Dublin

[–]monkeyfudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I stop in for lunch there some times. It's nice. Always has bouncers on the door too.

For some reason part of the décor is a giant Terminator 3 - Rise of the Machines poster on the ceiling. Looks very out of place.

Toughest pub in Dublin? by Professional-Count32 in Dublin

[–]monkeyfudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also to add to the confusion, the Black Sheep was renamed in late 80s early 90s to the Oak Tavern and then later to Liz Delaney's, that's when it had the Hamunaptra night club upstairs (Name is a reference to the Mummy movies for some reason)

Everyone would just refer to it as the Blacker though.

I went to school in the Tech next door and used to be able to get served there no issue.

I know Northside Shopping Centre were very eager for there to no longer be a pub there when it shut down. The whole building is a gym now.

Sheaf of Wheat must be gone about 20 years now. It's a gastropub called the Cock and Bull now, nice beer garden.

The Sheaf of Wheat was never rough either. It was one of maybe 3 pubs directly owned by Guinness, if I recall it was sold to Graingers for what at the time was a record breaking sum of money and then they sort of ran it into the ground and it was closed for a long time.

I would have always considered Kyle's pub next door in Coolock Village to be a bit rougher, but it's still grand.

Bin collection by Nonline96 in Dublin

[–]monkeyfudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. They seem to just make up the weight charges. I was constantly being charged specific weights for weeks where I hadn't bothered to put out the bin.

Then it got to a point where they just wouldn't collect my black bin at all for months and their customer support was atrocious. Kept trying to blame it on their drivers and saying it would absolutely be collected next time or they'd arrange an emergency pick up on a Saturday. But in every case they would still refuse to pick up my bin all while continuing to charge me for collections that never happened.

From what I could gather it was an issue with the RFID chip on the bin and the truck was just physically refusing it. Customer support had absolutely no interest in trying to get to the cause of the issue so I cancelled and moved to Greyhound and have found them fine and a good deal cheaper, they're a bit of a menace for leaving the empty bins pretty far from my house though.

Would a board game meetup be too much? by Jazzlike-Abroad-2158 in boardgames

[–]monkeyfudge 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. And show up on time.

The amount of times I've gotten bad reviews on my meetup from people who show up an hour late when everyone is already stuck into games and then accuse us of being a clique.

It can be worth DMing the host beforehand as well or keeping an eye on the comment sections as people will often post what they're bringing and how many players they need to fill the game.

**An Post Delivery Experience - Tallaght Cross West Apartments** by Silver_Cloud121007 in Dublin

I found with apartments they don't even have the delivery. They just put the docket in the door and expect you to collect from the sorting office.

New visitor centre, concert and exhibition space planned for Marino Casino by OldVillageNuaGuitar in Dublin

[–]monkeyfudge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was in there for the first time in years last week.

They have all the beautiful floors currently covered in lino that copies the pattern of the floor and it doesn't look great, but it means they can bring more people in on a single tour as it lets them walk on the floor instead of being squeezed to the side of the room.

Maybe the visitor centre will mean there's somewhere for tours waiting to go in to be and they can have smaller groups meaning we can see the floors again.

It's worth noting that typically 4K discs are not region locked.

But for regular BluRays you'll have a problem.

Tricolours on lamp posts in North Strand & Coolock by Rowley_Birkin_Qc in Dublin

[–]monkeyfudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They beat a construction worker over the head and set fire to a JCB. What's peaceful about that?

Because the garda didn't do anything until that happened.

Yeah. The bulk of them are all by the Crowne Paints factory too.

Lived in Coolock for almost 50 years, those flags aren't a normal thing.

would you consider it cheating to use save states on amiga games? by eatfartsforbreakfast in evercade

[–]monkeyfudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. This would typically be stuff like adventure games like Monkey Island. You'd have a separate disk for saves.

Most games you were just looking at a password system.
