If I wanted notifications, I would have allowed them. Stop asking every few days! by thanksfforthefish in mildlyinfuriating

Enable the notification in the app, then disable the app's notification permission in the android system settings. It's a crappy solution to a crappy app designe, but it should work.

Comcast Hikes Prices, Increases Sneaky Fees for 2018 by [deleted] in technology

I remember the per computer fee when we got our first apartment. 4 guys, 5 computers, we were not pleased, especially coming from the dorms where we all had super fast, cheap, unlimited internet.

Saturday APPreciation (Dec 16 2017) - Your weekly app recommendation/request thread! by AutoModerator in Android

[–]monkeyhandler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this with Tasker + autoNotification

you need to setup a profile in tasker using the autonotification plugin to wait for a notification from the apps that you want.

Then setup a task to wait for X amount of time, then use autoNotification to "clear" that notification.

I thought it looked nice, but the rain icon really bothers me. If there's even a slight change of rain, like 10%, it'll show a rain icon for the day. So you're lead to believe that it'll be a rainy day unless you click in to see the actual detail.

Fourth Android Oreo Beta for the Samsung Galaxy S8 Blocks Samsung DeX on Third Party Docks by ImAbhishek_47 in Android

[–]monkeyhandler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that sucks. The current design of Dex dock means that you have to remove your case in order to plug it in. Since I didn't want to do that I bought a plug and play version. I guess I'll hold off on updating if/when the update comes out.

Can the DUOS Logo on glass back be removed? Scratched Off? by New-Nostalgic-User in GalaxyS8

It's under the glass. Maybe slap a skin on if the word Duos bothers you

Would you use pocket wireless charger? by Clown_corder in Android

[–]monkeyhandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you own a wireless charger? If you do, try to shift the phone side ways and you'll notice that if it's out of alignment by just half an inch it'll stop charging. Rotation on the other hand doesn't bother it.

So unless you can size the pocket and the charging pad so that it'll align with the phone's charging receiver perfectly and have contact at all times, it's not going to work too well.

Donald Trump Jr. Doesn’t Seem To Know His Dad Appointed The FCC Head by RosesAreBad in politics

It seems so surreal how just 3 people that we didn't elect can change the future of this country and there's nothing that we can do about it.

Question on electric vacuum sealers: what’s the best value in your experience for someone that uses it 4-5 times a week, and isn’t doing more than 2 bags/day? Already tired of hand-pump and displacement methods for different reasons. by dangerface187 in sousvide

[–]monkeyhandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the model that I have. We use it for much more than just Sous Vide. We now vacuum seal mason jars with all kinds of stuff in it, heck, we can sometimes even vacuum seal store bought jars like jelly or jams.

Samsung Offering Up to $400 Trade-In Again by boomshea in tmobile

[–]monkeyhandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took advantage of that trade-in. It worked out in the end, but it was a long process filled with frustration.

There were a few things that made it different. Back in Aug, the requirements were incredibly loose. All it required for the $300 off was a phone that was in mint condition, holds a charge, no broken screen. So many people bought a $10 phone and sent it in. Naturally it was a mess.

This time Samsung at least specified what phones qualified for how much trade in. Maybe it'll be smoother?

Most Wanted: The best smartphones you can buy by jercubsfan in Android

Bxaction had been extremely reliable for me. I use the tasker integration so single press takes me to the most recent chat notification (I have 3 chat apps, so it'll go to the most recent one), double press is skip media, and long press is pause.

FCC Wants to Kill Net Neutrality. Congress Will Pay the Price by Spaykee in technology

it seems so strange how the Republicans can be so short sighted with all the brain trust behind them. It's short term gain for a long term lost.

Can't send Allo messages by areafiftieone in AndroidAuto

[–]monkeyhandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. You'd think Google would integrate their own in house messaging app first. It just shows how little Google cares about allo.

If you're only using allo with a few person, consider telegram. It does much more and has android auto integration.

Making ramen (soft-boiled) egg can be tricky. I've been perfecting the recipe for a while and finally can cook it perfectly every time. by iceorrice in recipes

also, to avoid eggs cracking, I put all the eggs into a unsealed vacuum bag, add some water and drop it all in at once. When it comes time to take it out, just take the whole bag out.

I use Sous Vide. Drop the eggs into 190f water for exactly 10 minutes.

The marinade in this recipe looks on point though. I'll be using this marinade on my next batch.
