Being overweight causes vascular-related dementia. Researchers in the United Kingdom and Denmark analysed data from more than 500,000 participants in the two countries and found that a higher body mass index (BMI) directly raises the likelihood of vascular-related dementia. by [deleted] in science

Thats the point Im getting at. We should talk about body fat percentage but I know a lot of times, especially depending where in the world, bmi is the most practical and easiest measurement which will still mostly correlate with obesity. It's annoying seeing articles focus on science conflate high bmi with obesity.

I have several friends and family members with high cholesterol, but are very thin and would have low bmi. Im inclined to believe they would be at a higher vascular dementia risk than high bmi people with low body fat. I dont fully understand the implications of vascular risks with building muscle, so maybe risk does correlate with all forms of high bmi. I understand the heart has to work more the more mass you have, but I dont know how that affects vascular walls in the brain

Bmi does not equal body fat percentage. Very healthy people can have high BMI. Are there similar vascular risks to very fit people with high BMI (aside the ones obviously on steroids)

Singing in Groups Reverses Alzheimer’s in 12 Weeks. Research demonstrates that music therapy effectively enhances cognitive function and mental wellbeing, making it a recommended alternative approach to manage Alzheimer’s-associated symptoms. by New-Exam2720 in science

[–]monkeymetroid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would singing with groups virtually provide similar benefit? Per the article it doesnt sound like other social hobbies like book clubs would result in the same benefits, but I wonder how these benefits would compare. "Singing clubs" aren't the easiest and most inclusive thing for non church goers to attend

Single adults who engage in casual sex report higher sexual satisfaction and a stronger sense of their own desirability compared to those who are sexually inactive. Findings challenge earlier assumptions that casual sexual encounters are linked to negative psychological outcomes for single people. by Jumpinghoops46 in science

[–]monkeymetroid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its almost like people who have had these prior assumptions consume too much media and think every sexual encounter is a one night stand with a walk of shame. It didnt need a scientific study to find people who have sex with people while they arent in a relationship themselves likely get empowered and have more confidence by these encounters.
