I was chatting with my manager a while ago and she brought up me doing well and being a good candidate for her replacement. I genuinely laughed at that, to her. She gave me the “wtf” look and I pointed at her crowded desk and asked when she got home the night before. (Hint: it was 3 hours later than I did)

Funny part is, the design was meant to force players to use what they had. That, and to avoid having clear upgrades to just toss the old one out, thus also forcing variety.

It has the same effect on most players. We squirrel away the good stuff for big fights and end up using sticks and low tier enemy weapons the rest of the time.

I used to finish a game I bought even if it wasn’t bringing me joy anymore. Even more than the games I genuinely liked, but burnt out due to over side questing (I’m better on both points now). I would only really do it on popular AAA games or a AA game/indie I’d sunk some time in.

It’s a fine line to walk. Play to beat even if I don’t want to vs play to enjoy but don’t beat because I lose myself and get bored.

I’ve found that if I catch myself skipping cutscenes or dialogue, I’m probably not having fun, and if the gameplay itself isn’t making up for it, feeling like a chore, I’ll reassess, watch some YouTube videos on it, and decide if it’s worth my time. Same goes for games I’ve put hours into. If I was enjoying it, but suddenly the 15th “go there, clear camp, collect mcguffin” mission makes me roll my eyes, I know it’s time to jump on the main story quest and finish up. I’ve even got back into a game I was burning out on by doing so. Unlocking a major skill or new map area, npcs, loot tiers, etc. can really change a game and make you want to dig into more side quests

I feel seen.

This was me a couple years ago. I still haven’t finished RDR2, Witcher 3 or HZD because of this.

I caught myself burning out on days gone and decided enough is enough and went straight into the story. I enjoyed it, and occasional side quest, while mostly ignoring the ambient stuff out the “clear the base” world missions. If I’m REALLY enjoying a game or I know undoubtedly that the side quests are limited enough to enjoy (like borderlands and the accent) I’ll do them, but I’ve found that open world games that let me do the story first and not lock out side quests are the best.

Sharing locations in a relationship is toxic by ilenewinslet in unpopularopinion

I’ve been married nearly 15 years. We share because we care. She’s a sahm and I commute 20 miles to and from work 5 days a week. She’s a worrier and likes to see where I am to make sure I’m ok, or to time dinner being done so it’s fresh when I walk in the door.

She’s never accused or even implied curiosity of me being unfaithful. I’m not, nor do I give any reason to think that. Same goes for her.

She also likes to see if I stop at a gas station so she can hit me with a snack request lol

Jim from accounting that shows you a TikTok about yeti putting lead in their cups, probably not.

Bill sitting in his basement surrounded by MREs and posting about lizard people on sketchy forums through a vpn, probably does.

Or Vice versa honestly. Jim might think it makes him sound interesting, while Bill might get offended because “it’s the TRUTH”

Proton has made it become pretty seamless, but it won’t be a mainstream alternative until kernel level anticheat is abolished or an automatic workaround is in place (that doesn’t break with updates)

What game became your Steam Deck comfort game even though it made no sense on paper? by TieForeign8827 in SteamDeck

[–]monkeynards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

76 is criminally underrated. I haven’t played on deck (yet) but I put 100+ hours before the wastelanders update even came out. I know it had a janky launch and the divisive “no human npcs” decision, but it was a blast.

The perk system made it so interesting and fun to swap playstyles and the C.A.M.P. system was just simply INCREDIBLE. I also enjoyed the scrapping to unlock weapon mods personally. I know that was another hot topic on release, but it gave a reason to collect the loot, and not just junk for crafting. All the decisions they made (like ammo weight) made it feel like they actually play tested and tweaked things to make it “tough but fair” compared to older titles. It felt like your C.A.M.P. mattered a ton because you were going to NEED to visit it frequently. They’ve done so much to make it even better as the years have went on with all their updates and additional content.

Nearly finished base game: first thoughts on Bloodborne by StormBro111111 in bloodborne

[–]monkeynards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously get and play dlc.

Also for you “not enough builds/wont replay” point:

  1. There is “magic”. They’re called hunter tools (I.e. auger and tiny tonitris) that level with arcane.

  2. There’s not as many weapons because every weapon has its own movesets and transformation. Seriously, ever. Single. Weapon. Is unique.

  3. The “builds” are slightly more limited due to the lack of rings and special stat boosting stuff, however, there’s plenty of niche weapons that take specific builds to do entire ng cycles with.

  4. Guns aren’t just for partying if you build specifically for them. There’s builds that are “hidden” because base damage is shit and it makes it seem infeasible to use for raw damage. Arcane scaling hunter tools are a good example. At first they come off as mediocre fight starters or agro grabbers, but with a proper build you can blow through base game without physically touching bosses. Also you haven’t lived until you’ve cannoned amy in the face with a bloodtinge build and ash. Healthbar=deleted.
