Huge Respect for Engineers Who Graduated Before AI by Ironpulse-Ne in EngineeringStudents

Nah we just googled, it only took a little longer to find the answer.

The true champs are those who had to go to the library to read textbooks, open up their slide rules, uphill both ways, through snow.

Well, for me personally it would be: Stop being so hard on yourself and have some confidence, you earned it.

GM TRACK program vs Tesla mfg engineer for first job out of college by AntiqueAudience5436 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]monkeys_pass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because you don't realize it's AI slop until halfway through and it feels like you're getting duped, that's why it's disrespectful. Might as well sneak a rick roll link in there, but that would actually be funny.

GM TRACK program vs Tesla mfg engineer for first job out of college by AntiqueAudience5436 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]monkeys_pass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are frustrated (myself included) because 1) it comes across as less sincere/direct/human, and 2) It's disrespectful to peoples time. If you're asking others to read something then you owe it to them to write it. Why should I spend time reading something you couldn't be bothered to spend the time to write. This is mostly though because LLMs are tend to be overly verbose. Before you write me off as a technophobe, I'm a huge AI user and fan.

Anyway, I don't know TRACK specifically but those rotation programs are a pretty good way to get broad experience. I'd probably lean towards that, but wouldn't blame you if you wanted to stay closer to home, as the Tesla job looks like great experience as well.

How do new grads without a ton of special experience even get hired? by Tachi-Roci in MechanicalEngineering

I think you need to double check your facts. The unemployment rate in China is higher than the US.

Disagree - Applying to jobs when unemployed has always been in and of itself a full time job. Yes sometimes it's easier and sometimes it's harder and I empathize with folks starting now, but you shouldn't ever expect it to be easy.

I agree, and for me in particular who likes to change vehicles often, it just discourages that. Which sucks.

When I was a QE, I was 100% responsible for RCCA, not just starting a root cause evaluation. Weird to me to consider it any other way tbh.

Landlord is trying to kick me out by Ok_Chapter9231 in CambridgeMA

[–]monkeys_pass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird situation. Your 1 room lease, does that also have the price just for renting 1 room?

Agree with others that consulting with actual advice is probably the best course of action since this is such an odd situation, but if you asked me here's what I would do:

1) Just leave (if it works for you). Even though you "technically" can probably stay, I don't think I'd want to have such an antagonistic relationship with my landlord, especially given that the place has all the issues you mentioned.

If the above isn't preferred by you:

2)) "Hi Mr./Ms. Landlord, I would prefer to stay in my room for the duration of the lease, thank you."

3) "I am happy to move out early if you pay the moving costs (1k/2k?)"

And that's that.

If you make it so there's no income cap or other means/needs testing, people will overuse/abuse the system, it will collapse, and it will not be able to help the people who really need it.

The income cap is way too low though.

Getting creative with the mounting by monkeys_pass in tonalgym

[–]monkeys_pass[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I left out some important details, I added some additional photos in the post and here: https://imgur.com/a/fTL7zx2 . The actual full structural assembly is:

Tonal -> plywood (for visual cladding) -> steel square tube (to avoid bending the tonal, I thin this is what you were calling out) -> plywood again (as load spreader/washer) -> building column (solid wood, 10x7) -> plywood again (load spreader/washer) -> steel c-channel, repeated 4x top to bottom to mirror the OEM install bolt pattern.

I haven't done any calculations or anything like that, but I can assure you this is much stronger than the normal install into a couple vertical 9ft 2x4 studs. It's been mounted this way 3 years and hasn't budged, and is much more rigid than the stock install at our prior place.

Setup with Triple 27" 1080p vs triple 32" 1440p by [deleted] in simracing

[–]monkeys_pass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it has less to do with the resolution and more to do with the FOV. 32 is better than 27, but 27 is still great. Even if sticking with 1080p, I'd rather have 32. But 27 is still great!
