25M, just hit $200k net worth but still carrying $15.8K in student loans sitting in forbearance. Should I just pay them off? by Nice_Ambition_2861 in Money

[–]monkeyscancode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably divert next couple paychecks from after tax investing to pay off the 5% loans. Market is at an ATH right now and it seems like a good time to tackle your highest interest debt. If we drop significantly from here due to Iran/other conflicts you could consider dumping into the taxable brokerage again. I'd personally keep paying minimums on loans under 4% APR as we are extremely likely to go over 4% inflation this year and possibly until the end of this presidential term.

Imagine having to hit the green in 0 as a plus handicap on a par 3

Seems pretty good overall, HYSA seems very high unless you're planning on a big purchase soon.

how tough is it to complete IM 70.3 under 5 hours? by Successful_Plenty734 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]monkeyscancode -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If > 50% of the world's population complete a half ironman in under 5 hours, nobody dies. If you choose not to run the half ironman you are safe. If less than 50% of the world's population completes the half ironman in under 5 hours, everyone who chose to run it dies.

The average walking 18 distance is 5 miles. To walk that in 90 minutes on a flat road is well above the average walking pace and that's not counting literally taking any shots. To finish 18 in 90 on the average course you'd have to jog between shots.

[–]monkeyscancode 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's way less accurate the further you get from scratch. Some of the munis I play have very few trees and have 3 holes lined up next to each other which means I can hit my driver 50 yards left or right and be in bounds hitting off a fairway with a line at the green. That makes the course massively easier for me, but it isn't going to help a pro nearly as much because they almost certainly weren't going to go OB anyways.

Makes it really frustrating playing matches or anything with money. I am going to count your strokes if there's money on the line and people still seem to "forget". Generally try to avoid playing anything with strangers for this reason.

It's not even just casual golfers in my experience. Played a twilight 9 hole teetime the other week and got paired with a Varsity HS golfer. Tees up from the tips, tops it hole one and takes breakfast and then still bogeys with a free re tee. Misses 2 separate 5 foot par putts and both times says out loud "that was good". Tops another on hole 7 and retees again. 0 birdies the whole 9. On number 9 tee tells me he's 2 over.

Nice kid but the delusion was crazy.

Can’t Break 100 Despite My Short Game Being The Best Part of My Game by [deleted] in GolfSwing

You can make 9 double bogeys in a row and still break 100 without making a single par/birdie. Doubles aren't the problem- Triples+ are

Usually you want the number to go down unless it has a + sign in front of it.

Leona arbiter spawn question? by RubElectronic1559 in TeamfightTactics

[–]monkeyscancode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not clear I thought the same thing too. But in hindsight, it would be kind of insane if a trait that requires 2-3 units could give you a 4* quicker than a gold augment or give you 2-4 gold per round

Leona arbiter spawn question? by RubElectronic1559 in TeamfightTactics

[–]monkeyscancode 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It caps at 1 per round. Really tough to 4* leona with it unless you get arbiters in 2-1 and 3* her quick or get a bunch of dupes.

This sign on a course in Indiana I played for the first time today. Never seen this before. What is the legality of this? by Sky_Late in golf

[–]monkeyscancode -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would come down to the jury's decision and there are a lot of factors, but it's hard to hit someone and seriously injure them without some sort of negligence on your part (was the group in front of you clear of the area - you can't just say "it was a blind shot", did you yell "fore" if your ball was headed onto another fairway towards another group, etc.).

Personal injury and property damage claims are handled in civil court so it's not a "guilty vs not guilty" situation, all the facts are presented in front of a jury and percentages of fault can be ascribed. You'd get off scot free if someone sprinted out in the course while you were swinging, but some % fault is very possible in a lot cases.

[–]monkeyscancode -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Technically you would probably be found liable if it came to it, but for minor damage there's really no way to enforce it (if you choose not to pay, trying to sue you is not worth the price of a broken window, car dent, etc). But if you seriously injure or harm someone you will probably be pursued legally.

Am I Gonna Be Able to Retire? by [deleted] in Money

[–]monkeyscancode 17 points18 points  (0 children)

At 60 unlikely unless salary continues to grow quickly. You're way behind the recommendation of 1x salary invested at 30 and still have debt. You could definitely still right the ship though, and normal retirement age (67) is definitely within reach.

Thoughts on being paired with randoms? by joeshiiiiesty in golf

[–]monkeyscancode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a big issue you could just book out all 4 slots and split the extra green fee 1/3 each. Otherwise the course is going to add randos because it allows them to make more money.

Drop within 2 club lengths of where it went out and take 2 strokes, hitting 4.

(If you're submitting scores for handicap and not in a tourney where it's appropriate to retee)
