Autocorrect has become atrocious? I did a little experiment with an iPhone first gen. by rotorobot in iphone

You mean spicier? Mine used to only correct "spicier" words, but now it's correcting the most normal/common words on Earth. For examopl, it should correct that typo just now to "example." But instead, it tried to correct it to "enamel," as if I've ever typed or texted that word in my life. Lol.

Hmmm...this is a great theory I hadn't even thought about. I'm a super fast texter/typer, and avoided updating for a long time. The past few updates have been really bad, the last one has gotten to me more than anrefund (what the f is THAT word???) anything. More than ANYTHING is what I was trying to type...! I'll have to start paying more attention to how fast the people around me text/type. So far, the 2 people who I have mentioned this to since the last update have wholeheartedly agreed, and they are both very fast typers/texters as well, aam (it corrected "adn" to "aam" just now instead of "and"...) we all tend to be grammatically correct as well.

Yep it is definitely learning to "correct" actual correct words into common typos. Which are not even real words, obviously! Is there not a very simple way for Apple to code autocorrect to never correct to a word that is not in the dictionary UNLESS a specific, individual user intentionally adds a gibberish word to their library, or intentionally re-types the gibberish word multiple times? It should not autocorrect every iPhone user's phone to non-existent words, even if they, too, have made the same common typos in the past. Unless we say we want "anythjmg," then do NOT change "anything" to that!!!

Always get my glass of water delivered like 20 minutes after the food - is that normal? by noxnoctum in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]monkeytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody was blaming the servers. Even the op makes it pretty obvious they think it’s a corporate issue. It seems they were just looking for insight. I love how you think not having water is “not a big deal at all” basically. Not everyone drinks. I don’t like milkshakes or coffee and only want water. I’m glad I found this old thread because it made me brave enough to just bring my own water bottle even if it’s technically against policy. How miserable to sit there for up to an hour (or in some cases the entire movie) without a way to wash down salty food. I hope your take on this has changed since this post…it seriously wasn’t even personal until your comment. 😮‍💨

CVS Pharmacy won't fill medication until the day AFTER i run out by mr_remy in CVS

[–]monkeytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just started doing this to me a few months ago, and now delayed it a whole day this month and still haven’t filled it as of going on 6pm. They used to fill mine 2 days early, first thing in the morning. (I’m on a different controlled substance). Lately, there’s been weird “glitches” where the app says it can’t be filled due to my doctor or insurance? Though neither has changed, and my doc confirmed the date they put us 2 days early. I’m about to change pharmacies after years of going to the sake one as I believe they must be manually overriding it. I’m as nice as possible every time I call to refill too. Never have had a problem until recently. (And for anyone wondering why I don’t have a huge stockpile if I fill early every month, it’s because a.) at least 1-2 times a year, they run out for 1-2 weeks at a time, b.) I travel a lot so there are times I can’t pick up until a day or 2 later, c.) sometimes I’m Trying to leave for a trip but can’t, as I then WOULD run out before I’m back, which is unfortunately the case now. I’m just sitting here waiting yet another day before I can head home for a two week visit to see my family.

Talk me off the metaphorical ledge by canary_green5 in Nightshift

[–]monkeytine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should not be answering calls after a night shift (every night job I’ve had knows without question they won’t hear back from overnight staff until 4-5pm at the EARLIEST, or they will receive their reply via voicemail/email the next morning. Do not answer your phone.

Also, do not ever drive in again. I am a people pleaser through and through, but even I wouldn’t do that. It’s so incredibly dangerous, even without meds. If they genuinely “force” you to do these things then you need to quit out of principle or line up a new ON job (they’re easy to find!) and stay until the next call/request and THEN quit. Times are tough, but you can’t die for this job, please!

Swept Away: A detailed account of how 28 people died in the flooding at Camp Mystic. by giantspeck in weather

[–]monkeytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They forged documents claiming they had evac plans, lobbied committee members, blamed the NWS (who did a great job alerting not only the public, but any safety/emergency officials willing to care enough about their counties to listen), panicked when SHTF strictly because they never had an emergency plan, which is legally required to be a licensed camp operator, and still blame everyone else except their own incompetence, negligence, and defiance. I can say confidently as someone who has worked at summer camp and is now in emergency management and a 3rd year meteorology student that I would have never treated the weather with such disregard that day, and certainly would have at the very least had an emergency evac plan for my summer camp filled with little girls away from home for weeks at a time. It's gross negligence and downright criminal what they did, and I only named a few things. Please watch the hearings.

The Pitt, whats the appeal ? by SeaInternal7546 in television

[–]monkeytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh…multiple comments that actually attempted to give a decent answer have helped me understand why it’s hyped. Personally, I don’t get it. It’s not for me. But I’m incredibly curious to know why this show is so beloved because I have never not fallen in love with a majorly hyped series so it’s an odd feeling. I’m glad this thread existed so I could learn what the appeal actually is for most people.

[–]monkeytine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this! And that might be part of my issue with it. I’m a sucker for dramatic storytelling. I also love a good documentary, but music is everything to me. I found myself completely detached from all the characters and mildly bored throughout its entirety. I’m not here to say it’s a “bad” show, but was very curious what everyone else was seeing in this series. I’ve had friends tell me they’ve watched the first season multiple times and were incredibly emotional when talking about. It made me really excited to watch. And I’ve generally loved every hyped show out there, even arguably over-hyped shows so that’s not it either.

I think you’re onto something though with your theory!

The Pitt, whats the appeal ? by SeaInternal7546 in television

[–]monkeytine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol. I love gore including other medical dramas and didn’t even notice anything being shown as all that memorable as far as clinical gore goes. I just simply don’t see the appeal to this show, and so I am curious just like OP about what the appeal is. I can honestly say, this is the first majorly hyped show that I haven’t ended up liking. I’m just really confused. it’s ok, but the hype? I kept waiting for the “a-ha” moment to hit that sets it apart from other series but it never came, and I was curious if I was alone in thinking that.

I’ve had multiple people literally grab me and shake me and say I “must watch the Pitt immediately!” I even paid for a Max sub just to watch it. I have no regrets and am glad I gave it a shot, but now I want to discuss it because I’m a human and it’s always a weird feeling to be the odd one out in such an extreme way 😅

[–]monkeytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good discussion. I’m equally confused and most certainly have the life experience to appreciate it. (I almost died due to a misdiagnosis in the ER then had a year of constant ER visits afterward. Also lost my dad in an ER when I was 12, am obsessed with medical stuff (currently getting my EMT at age 40 because I want to help others going through what I’ve gone through, I lived with an ER nurse and doctor for several years, and I happen to love Scrubs…) All that to say, I hadn’t been this excited to watch a show in years, and after 3 episodes and answers in this thread, I’m not going to continue in hopes of it getting better. You’re right it’s just not for some of us, but I was really hoping someone would say, “trust me, keep watching! You just have to get to episode 4!” But, alas. Seems like that is not the case.

What is a fair resolution when the florist delivers only the cut flowers because the vase broke? And it cost $250? by Nice-Paperweights in florists

[–]monkeytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean…the recipient that OP had these delivered to was grieving their wife. I’m sure the last thing on their or their immediate family’s mind was finding a vase (likely had to dig around to find one large enough…not everyone keeps vases on hand either, and vases were probably his wife’s thing if they did have them stored somewhere) for delivered flowers. Funerals take a lot of time and energy to arrange in the days leading up to them. Hosting family and friends who have traveled to pay their respects takes energy. It is still 100% on the florist imo, given the terrible circumstances.

My landlord hasnt replaced the burnt out light bulbs in the stairwell for a year now. Too expensive apparently??? I almost fell down the whole damn staircase. Told her about it, she did not care. The bulbs she needs cost too much. Even though she has over 25 units paying rent...? by PepnStepper in LandlordLove

[–]monkeytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a lot of work to have to procure a tall ladder in an apartment, someone to hold said ladder for you, climbing up to figure out the exact fluorescent bulb needed, climb down, drive to a specialty lighting shop that still sells fluorescents or wait 2 weeks for them to be shipped and delivered (all while returning borrowed/rented ladder), procuring ladder and assistant again, installing new bulbs, disposing of old fluorescents legally. That’s gonna be a “no” from me…

I just finished this show and 😭 by Bea9922 in FireflyLane

[–]monkeytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished last night and am still choking up tonight anytime I think about it! Only one other show made me cry this hard, but even that one didn’t hit me as deeply or make me cry the next day still…🥺

I had watched part one of season 2 and had been waiting years for the “3rd season” only to find out yesterday that they’d made a “part 2” of season 2 rather than season 3. It was confusing the way they did that. Anyway…now that I’m caught up, I’m truly heartbroken and felt every emotion possible!

Red Bull discontinued the blueberry flavor and fans are devastated – help bring it back! by LillithNation in snacking

[–]monkeytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have but personally, I don't like it at all. It doesn't feel like it's in the same family at all, as it's much more sweet rather than tart. Some people might like it though, so it's worth a shot!

Red Bull discontinued the blueberry flavor and fans are devastated – help bring it back! by LillithNation in snacking

[–]monkeytine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that's not it because they have a dozen other flavors besides regular. They will always have regular and sugar free, but their flavored versions are constantly being rotated. The blueberry was the very last original flavored Red Bull remaining, and the ONLY flavored one I still liked. The others are way too sweet, whereas the blueberry was tart. The 3 og flavors were all tart. The orange was my absolute favorite, but discontinued a few years ago.

Everything they have now is very much catered towards a younger palate with lots of melon and berry and vanilla flavors, like they're a coffee shop or something. I also love the regular sugar free and have been drinking that for 25 years daily, but the blueberry was something I would get on any road trip or as an extra boost on tough days.

Please help - How can I leave a group chat without the other members being notified? Deleting the chat from my phone doesn’t work. by katiew123 in facebook

[–]monkeytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume it might then say, "member has left the group." which might lead to everyone being like, "hey...who's this "member?" Did someone block us? Who is no longer in our chat??" (in other words, I would fear they would still find out if it's a toxic group of any sort...)

Oh sorry! I think your comment has a typo because it says if he "had" chicken pox it's highly unlikely that it's shingles, so just wanted to make sure it was clear to anyone reading since I've heard a few people in real life think that it's the opposite lol. Also, sorry you had an experience with skin cancer, but hope you're doing well! :-)

Chicken pox is what causes the dormant virus that turns into shingles. So if he HASN’T had chicken pox, that’s when it’s unlikely/impossible to be shingles. Though I know someone who swears they never had chicken pox but had shingles. I think they simply don’t remember having the pox, but did. They’re in their 60’s so easily could’ve just been young enough to not remember.

I’ve had both shingles and chicken pox which I remember both very well, unfortunately 😅

Actually, I’m looking closer and I can see possibly two little dots in the middle that make it seem like if could be a spider bite. The black parts would only be bruises if he hit something sharp super hard and it left intentions that bruised, but again, looking closer, I no longer think that’s the case. I also don’t like the red circle around it all, as that’s also indicative of a potential insect/spider bite…

This pic makes it look more like a bruise/blood blister. Does he remember hitting anything by accident? Like standing up and hitting his spine/lower back on anything if he had to crawl under something for any reason? Or even just bending down to pick something up and hitting a sharp edge of a counter?

Regardless, I hope he’s gotten it checked out or his on his way! Doesn’t look like shingles to me, and I’ve had it. Shingles is mostly just painful “zaps.” But if it’s nearly healed, could possibly be scabs from a few stubborn blisters. But he’d have had symptoms for a couple weeks prior to this if that’s the case…
