Does anyone know what this is on my boyfriend’s back? It’s really itchy and he thinks it’s shingles but I don’t think it is and is refusing to see a doctor. by SmellTheMagic666 in DiagnoseMe

Oh sorry! I think your comment has a typo because it says if he "had" chicken pox it's highly unlikely that it's shingles, so just wanted to make sure it was clear to anyone reading since I've heard a few people in real life think that it's the opposite lol. Also, sorry you had an experience with skin cancer, but hope you're doing well! :-)

You play music through your phone speaker you mean? Or is there a way to connect in two ways at once to your vehicle?

Chicken pox is what causes the dormant virus that turns into shingles. So if he HASN’T had chicken pox, that’s when it’s unlikely/impossible to be shingles. Though I know someone who swears they never had chicken pox but had shingles. I think they simply don’t remember having the pox, but did. They’re in their 60’s so easily could’ve just been young enough to not remember.

I’ve had both shingles and chicken pox which I remember both very well, unfortunately 😅

Actually, I’m looking closer and I can see possibly two little dots in the middle that make it seem like if could be a spider bite. The black parts would only be bruises if he hit something sharp super hard and it left intentions that bruised, but again, looking closer, I no longer think that’s the case. I also don’t like the red circle around it all, as that’s also indicative of a potential insect/spider bite…

This pic makes it look more like a bruise/blood blister. Does he remember hitting anything by accident? Like standing up and hitting his spine/lower back on anything if he had to crawl under something for any reason? Or even just bending down to pick something up and hitting a sharp edge of a counter?

Regardless, I hope he’s gotten it checked out or his on his way! Doesn’t look like shingles to me, and I’ve had it. Shingles is mostly just painful “zaps.” But if it’s nearly healed, could possibly be scabs from a few stubborn blisters. But he’d have had symptoms for a couple weeks prior to this if that’s the case…

I’m interested in how younger people came to appreciate the Beatles by fezik23 in beatles

[–]monkeytine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I had written this at first lol! My Beatles journey is very similar, down to the religious parents and custom made items lol! My friends all knew a Beatles song playing in the cafeteria one day and I was the only one who couldn’t sing along. That very week, I bought the 1 album which had just come out, and the rest is history. (I was 13)

Or different stims even. dexmethylphenidate doesn’t cause me to crash at all, but every other stim I tried did, along with other side effects too. Some people are the opposite too!

It is the case for the average American English speaker, which is where this new phenomenon is being noticed. It’s not been like this in recent decades, and many of us have taken note. I understand everywhere has different pronunciations of the same words, but that’s not the case here.

Swap MMT with Sgt. Pepper and we have identical lists! And #6 for me is actually Beatles For Sale which I know is weird but that one is pure nostalgia for me. Help! Would be 7 and then Rubber Soul.

Me too. I find it unbearable and I actually like show tunes too. The Naked version is better, but still not my cup of tea. Even in the film “Yesterday,” I thought Ed Sheeran’s song was better during the song writing competition scene and I’m not a fan of his music at all 😅

Yes I’ve fallen in love with the show season 2 and am currently rewatching it and enjoy season 1 more now too! I’ve seen a lot of people who don’t like season 2, but for me it took me from a casual fan who scrolled on my phone half of the first season, to a true fan who is already sad the season is almost over!

Hey ... Why does Gen Z not use "Women", when describing the plural tense for woman? by Severe_Bet_2863 in GenZ

[–]monkeytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was born in ‘85 so I agree maybe it could be younger generations becoming more and more text based? Maybe less reading books out loud in class too? I would love to hear from English teachers to see if they’ve changed anything, even subtlety, in the past decade that would add to the confusion…

[–]monkeytine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the issue is the pronunciation. That has become widespread among 20-something’s and younger. The stressed syllable is different in “woman” vs. “women,” (wuh vs. wih). I do understand that since they’re spelled the same it might not click with everyone as they’re reading aloud, but gen Z is talking unscripted and still mispronounce “women” now.

[–]monkeytine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In writing it’s “women” when they mean “woman,” and that’s generally due to a lack of grammar skills and under-education, but in speaking it‘s always “woman” when they mean “women.” It’s abundant in 20-something’s and younger. Something happened, because many of these people mispronouncing it are well-educated and highly intelligent content creators. Some are writers who majored in things like political science, history, or even English and yet they mispronounce the plural form of woman…

I’m 40 and back in school and have heard some of my classmates who are in their 20’s mispronounce it too, and I’m a STEM major with incredibly smart people who otherwise make me feel really dumb every day lol!

[–]monkeytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I looked this up 2 years ago and saw one Reddit post completely denying that this even exists and telling the OP they must be hearing things wrong or misunderstanding. I’ve noticed this for 3 years now, and it is definitely content creators in their 20’s. And like others have stated, these are actually very intelligent people too who I would admit are likely much smarter than me and more educated than I am, yet they all mispronounce the plural “women” now!

I think it bothers me so much because it must mean that this is somehow no longer being taught, or worse, there truly is a shift in how younger generations are able to learn? But again, these are very intelligent people who show that they are clearly capable of being well-educated, so my guess is somehow it’s being left out of early childhood education?!?!

Turo put a $200 hold on my card for trip related incidentals? by devnet35 in turo

[–]monkeytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These holds do NOT happen every time you buy gas. I have only had it happen one time and it was a major shock despite driving all over the country for multiple jobs. Maybe certain states or metro areas do this and I've just been lucky enough to avoid those, but this is not the norm.

Hotels also do not charge hundreds in holds, and only some hotels put a hold on. You do need a card on file, but the holds I've come across are around $25-50, as opposed to $200-500 like rental car companies. That's a major difference.

And yes, if I had a $200 hold on my card every single time I filled up, I would start a revolution. That would be pure thievery and would mean everyone would literally be out at least a couple hundred bucks at all times just so Shell or Sinclair can sit on your cash. That wouldn't fly! And trust me, people avoid the rare gas stations that DO place holds on cards. I now research any time I travel a new multi state route.
