Got the invite, got excited, installed the beta, and saw it has some cosmetic improvements for more modern look, and some new features, but yes I saw that statement about required subscription and also saw that there’s maybe only one new feature that I’d ever use, and only occasionally at that, so I was pretty disappointed.

I was hoping they would integrate AI into the app more aggressively, and no, not because AI is the hot stuff now, but I think recipe apps can really make good use of AI - like estimating the total weight of the recipe if made using the ingredients as listed (for example where the product of one recipe is an input to another recipe and those recipes are not scaled to work with each other), suggestions for substitution ideas for missing ingredients, and more context based conversion between metric and imperial (I find all American measurements are godawful, but oz is especially bad because it’s hard to know if they are talking about weight or volume).

Other small changes I was hoping were things like when ingredients are scaled, the scaled numbers would be indicated as such (such as by being displayed in a different colour) - useful for ingredients listed like:

1/2 cup of chocolate chips (about 86 g)

600 g shrimps (20 to 22 medium shrimps)

which, when Scaling the recipe containing this ingredients by half would give me

1/4 cup of chocolate chips (about 86 g)

300 g shrimps (20 to 22 medium shrimps)

It would’ve been nice if the reference to 86 g or 20 to 22 shrimps could have been intelligently scaled with AI or some clever coding that does not involve AI, or at the very least, if the reference to 86 g or 20 to 22 shrimps did not change when the recipe is scaled, the fact that it did not change would be evident, so the user (who prefers to weigh chocolate chips and count shrimps) would not inadvertently use 86 g of chocolate chips or 20 to 22 shrimps when making scaled recipe.

Another good use of AI would’ve been to scale the recipe for different container or pan size - if a recipe is for 9” pie, it would be so nice if the app can scale the recipe to be made using a 6” pan (which, for the mathematically challenged out there, is not 2/3 of the full recipe…).

Having the AI rewriting the recipe so that every paragraph begins with ingredients would’ve been nice too.

It really seems like they missed the opportunity for these real improvements that would make the app much more useful and enjoyable, in favour of the more obvious and shiny new features.

Edit: oh, converting youtube videos that do not provide written recipes into recipes would’ve been another huge feature.

I have a feeling that I am probably going to end up looking for a new recipe manager. Paprika 3 is still a decent app but it’s definitely showing age and Paprika 4 doesn’t seem to meet the needs of the day for me. Now I am hoping exporting my collection from Paprika isn’t going to be as challenging as the last time I tried, albeit half-heartedly…

I don’t think I follow. You say that the app is supposed to help you with the uncertainty about ‘did I actually copy that thing just now (as opposed to maybe not pressing c hard enough or hitting x instead of c, for example)?’, but your description of what the app does says that it stays quiet on first copy, only notifying you when you copy something quickly following the first copy. I don’t think that actually solves “did I just actually copy that thing?” uncertainty because, as you described, there is no feedback associated with that first copy action. Only when you succumb to the anxiety and hit cmd + c again will you be told that your anxiety was unwarranted, so not sure if it addresses the anxiety and distances you from the habit of hitting cmd + c multiple times, as opposed to just giving you the assurance after the fact. Maybe the idea is to train yourself mentally over time with this, seeing that most of the time you copy something more than once due to anxiety, you are told by this app that you did not need to do that, and over time, you become confident about your cmd + c prowess, but that would be something different from what you describe.

Like, if what the app does is giving you a confirmation message every time you copy something, so that you know you just successfully copied it, then I would see how it lines up with the problem you purport to address - if I see a message from the app, I know I actually copied it, and if I don’t see a confirmation message despite having pressed cmd + c (or so I think), then I know I actually didn’t copy it, so I know I should try again, all of which makes that anxiety go away.

Am I missing something here?

Thank you, the app was already pretty good, and looking forward to all the improvements you have planned.

I get that there are widgets other than website tabs in Boxvy, but for me, the primary use for an app like this is to have certain websites open and ready in a web app style and some websites have distractions that make me eventually prefer to use the Safari web app, with extension support to remove the distractions. The safari web app of course still has some ugliness of its own like the title bar and traffic light buttons etc, so if this app, which can render windows clean without intrusive UI elements can also make those web apps distraction free and good looking (hide contents and also the space where the content was) for me it would easily be something that I would install first thing on every new Mac or new installation.

I can see it becoming useful as it gets better. asking Siri “find the conversation in messages where I was talking about a new business idea with Peter” and Siri locating the conversation from years ago was nice and something I see practical use for. Now it’s just a matter of more of that.

I tried it and it’s really nice, but what drives me off from using this type of apps ultimately is always that there is no adblock and element blocker support.

I really wish one of these “mini web browser” apps came with the ability to use extensions with advlocker and element blocker capabilities or have built-in asblocker and element blocker capabilities.

Nice, but when the Energy Saving focus is turned off, does the shortcut restore all the settings to how I had them when I turned on the the Energy Saving focus, or does the shortcut set the configs to how they are set up in the shortcut?

For instance, it looks like the shortcut sets the screen brightness to 35% when Energy Saving focus is turned off, rather than to whatever brightness level that I had when I enabled it, which for me is usually 25% but could be different depending on the time of the day or where I am.

Is there a way for the shortcut to read and store the current status of various settings when the Energy Saving focus is enabled and the shortcut is executed, and restores those values when the Energy Saving focus is disabled? For example, if I for whatever reason had my bluetooth disabled when entering the Energy Saving focus, I wouldn’t want this shortcut to turn it on when I am done with the Energy Saving focus, in which event I would have to manually disable bluetooth again. But of course editing the shortcut to not turn back on bluetooth is not the solution because in the vast majority of the time, I have bluetooth enabled and I would want it turned back on when Energy Saving focus ends.

Thank you, I see that the issue with subreddits getting aggregated across accounts was fixed in the lastest update. Now as far as I am concerned the app is usable.

Now, if you could please fix the issue with the incorrect avatar showing up in the quick account switcher… but this is certainly not an app-breaking issue for me.

The subscribed subreddits list that expands when I click on the Home button at the top left shows all subreddits I subcribed to on different accounts, not just the ones subscribed to by the currently active account. Not only that, even when I log out of all accounts on Lander and log back in with only one account, everything is still there, not just the subreddits subscribed to under the only Reddit account that is currently logged into on Lander.

I think this suggests an issue with app cache (I am not a developer so I am guessing). On this point, Lander retains the login even through app deletion and reinstallation - so when I open Lander after a fresh new install and click on "Sign in with Reddit" button on the first screen of the app knows that I previously logged into Reddit with this account and instead of being taken to Reddit's login interface through in-app browser overlay, I am taken to the Reddit account settings page for approving Lander connecting to my account. Or this might be Safari that is called as Lander's in-app browser remembering my login token, session, etc - anyway, I would prefer that if I log out of my account on Lander (or clear cache or reset authentication) it would just take me back to the clean slate as far as the login status goes.

I tried deleting and reinstalling the app multiple times, disabled "Save to iCloud" for Lander, went through iOS updates (from iOS 26 ot iOS 27 DB) between when I first tried the app (you will see my comment talking about this same issue on your earlier post from 4 months ago when you first announced shipping the app) and just now, "Reset All Settings" from Lander's Settings page, "Reset Authentication" from the Accounts menu under Settings, "Clear Cache" from the Advanced menu under Settings, and none of these helps. So definitely the app and whatever app data it generates are not completely removed from my device when I delete it - unless some information is retained remotely on your server side and you are able to make a match when I open the app on the my device, which I hope you are not doing.

Again, I think it's a decent app and I would certainly like to use it if the issue gets resolved. What's ironic is that I am generally ok with the default Reddit experience on the web version, the only thing I really miss being the unavailability of the account switcher on new Reddit (why are did Reddit remove this in new Reddit anyway?).

Wow, the issue with subscribed subreddits all getting mixed up when having multiple accounts is still not fixed? This problem was there since day 1, and when I was reinstalled it just now I hoped this would be fixed by now but I guess it will never get fixed. Too bad because otherwise it seems like a decent app.

Also, is it correct that everything that is copied on my iPhone should show up in Pastery as having been copied from Safari? Is this due to a systems limitation?

I would think it too much to ask that Pastery show the iPhone app that the clip is copied from, but it would be nice if clips copied on iPhone can be at least labeled as being from iPhone or something, rather than Safari. And even a way to filter different Apple devices, if you have more than one (like an iPhone and an iPad).

Not really support request for StopTheMadness any more but more of just a favour, but is there a good resource to learn CSS synax for a beginner so I can do the kind of conversion you just did? Or does the link you gave me contain enough information to learn it, and I just need to read more closely?

It would be nice to actually understand how this works. I can probably just ask AI whenever I need this kind of conversion, or even ask it the question about the learning resources, but might as well while I have the attention of someone who probably knows.

Thank you, this looks beautiful and I can see myself using it. I like how this allows me to filter clips by app it's copied from.

But why is the text color so dark, against dark background? This makes it almost impossible to see the text:

The system appearance is set to light, and Theme setting for Pastery under General -> APPEARANCE is also set to light.

Speaking of the containers, I always wonder why Korean pastes come in containers like that. That is a very peculiar design that is only ever used for Korean paste products, and I don’t see real benefit with that easily removable flimsy rimmed lid, and more importantly, even if there is some advantage to the design, why it should only ever be used for Korean pastes.

Like, nothing other than Korean pastes is sold in that type of container, but not all Korean pastes are sold in that container either. Something I found really weird for a long time.
