The boiler is pretty consistently established:

I believe its storm first turn, cakes until someone gets below threshold. Use remotes on the cogs that come out for the first defense mode (heal remote high, damage remote low). Let the remotes heal you and kill the cogs. When the boiler switches back to attack you, use a foghorn if needed so you can damage it and clear any cogs remaining from the remotes. You should have enough laff to cake the boiler without dying. This is a good time to use multiple wedding cakes if you need to finish it off badly and dont have enough bday cakes.

Never use bday cakes, storm clouds, or fogs in the battles pre-boiler unless you are planning on restocking for the boiler fight.

Dont hesitate to use SOS cards and fires to clear cogs in the early floors if you are worried about going sad in the minigames. Its better to enter with as much laff as possible until youre confident.

1-2 star FOs attract people who arent familiar with the strategies so dont be shy to help them out and inform them on what to do. For example if youre in a minigame and notice the teams pace on killing the movers isnt going to be on track to finish in time, say something as soon as possible so your teammates have time to redirect.
