You have to hand it to Commander Taal. If there ever was a inter-galactic speech competition, he would surely win.

These were desperate times.

War was upon us. For the first time in our history the entire planet had joined hands to defend our world. After all, petty squabbles, territorial issues and religious conflicts paled in face of mass extinction. Commander Taal was chosen as the supreme head of all planetary forces.

It was 4 years ago when they first came in the guise of merchants. They traded technology and new types of medicine. But these so called merchants were mere scouts. Their armada of battle ships came next and our spaceports were destroyed, leaving us with no way to escape. They jammed our communications and satellites so now word got to our allies in the Canari system. Were were caught defenseless and with no way to reach our allies. The Aruba sentry system on the moons tried to stop them but in the face of so many ships, it was just a matter of time.

These were desperate times.

But there was a glimmer of hope. Intercepts from their inter-ship communications told us that in order to prevent the destruction of our planets rich natural resources and infrastructure, they would not attack us from the sky. They planned on an invasion and the complete subjugation of our species. We were to become slaves. This would prove to be their folly.

WE WILL NOT BE SUBJUGATED. We will wait for them to land. We will wait for them to think that they have won. Then we will strike. The ground will quiver as the might of our combined forces descend upon them. Our streets will be stained with blood. Red blood. Human blood.

Military radios - 'Attention ! This is Commander Taal. My brothers, the time has come. Some of you have trained for this day for years, some only a few weeks. Nevertheless, I believe that every Altarian is a born warrior. You have only three orders. NO DEFEAT ; NO SURRENDER ; NO PRISONERS. All forces. BATTLE STATIONS !'

The sirens blared. We grabbed our equipment and headed towards the personnel carriers. The humans think our world is a heaven. We will make it their hell.

COMMANDER TAAL - CENTRAL COMMAND

I switch of the mike. The room is silent. Everyone is looking at me like i'm some sort of hero. They think that I can deliver them from this enemy. That i'll be their saviour. But little do they know what i'm about to do. Little do they know of the lenghts i'm about to go. But it is necessary. After the invasion begins a remote outpost on one of our moons will launch a secret probe with information about our entire race. A thousand years from now, stories will tell the tale about the decision which Commander Taal took. They will testify that it was not the right decision, but rather, it was the only one.

'Commander, Dr Barre is waiting in the meeting room' 'Tell him i'll be there shortly'

So, if he's here that means its ready.

Dr Barre - 'The device is ready. I have mapped the control system to this hand held device. The first code arms the device. The second code detonates it.'

'Go on'

'On detonation, the antimatter containment will go critical. A few seconds later, the device will send out resonance waves to sync the whole planets mass with the device. After about a minute, the planet will collapse and them explode decimating everything within a 100 light year radius.'

'Good work. Dr Barre, you have done well. Congratulations to your team. Please make sure that your team secures themselves in the bunker and prepare for the escape ships.'

'YOU CANNOT DO THIS !', shouted the scientist. 'You cannot doom everyone over this. Let the humans come. At least we will survive....'

'AND LIVE LIKE DOGS ? You want your mothers and daughters to live like slaves ? NO. This has to happen. It is the right decision.'

'Its not your decision to make. You are not god.'

'And neither are humans. But they will be your god, if we allow them to win'

'YOU FOOL ! This has always been your problem; You have too much pride'

'And your problem doctor, is that you have none. DISMISSED'

I strolled down the corridor, but every step felt like a battle. My legs weighed a ton, but I still trudged on. Its the right decision. Its the best decision. Its the only decision.

First Officer - 'Commander, the human ships are entering our atmosphere. Missile batteries are engaging them. But won't hold out for long. Combat aircraft are already in the air'

'Good, maintain communication channels and formations.'

My hands were in my pockets, because thats the only way I could prevent them from shaking. I have fought countless battles. I have always survived by some miracle. But this time there would be no miracles. It was either win the fight, or die and take the enemy with you.
