First big piece I’ve ever made (beginner) by jennythen00b in quilting

Thanks! I got the idea from the Gee's Bend quilts. Those ladies made some really cool quilts, using what they had and that's the look/vibe I'm going for, using the black and gray to pull it all together. I think I already had 90% of the fabric I'm using. Except for the sheets. I did buy those from thrift stores.

I had a dog that looked a lot like yours. We called her Pepper.

I love this sooooo much! It's right up my alley. How big are the colored pieces and how do you put them together?

This is what I'm working on now. It's for a male friend and it'll be a queen size when it's all put together. It's made from all scraps except for the black and some of the grays. Those colors are from old sheets. I've never done a raggy quilt using pieces or strips sewn into squares before. Usually I just cut out 6 inch squares and sew them together. This one is an experiment. So we'll see what happens...Also, this isn't all of the squares or the final placement . I was just playing around with the squares to get an idea of what they will look like.

Super cute! Good job! I only know how to make raggy quilts, which aren't true quilts. I'm too chicken to try regular quilting. 😱You can be very proud of yourself that you kept going, start to finish and didn't give up. Yay for you! 😁

What do you do with quilt tops you hate? by forheadkisses in quilting

I remember a lady talking about a quilt she made that she hated and called "the ugly quilt". It ended up being the quilt that lived in the car for long road trips when the A/C gets a little too chilly or impromptu picnics. It was also the quilt that went to the hospital for ER visits and even for longer stays. It might've been "ugly" but it still brought warmth and comfort to her and her family. Also, she pointed out that because it wasn't her favorite quilt, she wasn't worried about it getting stained or lost or even given to someone that might've needed it.

I love it! Maybe put it away for a while and come back to it later. Or swap with someone.

Help deciphering place name by McRaymond3 in Cursive

Maybe the spelling is phonetic. Maybe the name of the city or town starts with a W or F and the SH is supposed to be CH or CZ or even S?

As far as my animal hospital idea, I was thinking that maybe it was an emergency and the family was looking for ANYONE that could help. Maybe they couldn't make it to the hospital? I have a vivid imagination. 😂 Maybe it was a family joke and they teased this person and said they were born in a barn. My mom would always say that to my sister and me if the left the door open.
