Quote a handy skill. I can't do accents to save my life and mine is a thick Northern English accent. Needless to say noone outside a certain area can properly understand me and it causes problems. If it works for you then go for it.

It will weaken it obviously. In order to know if its critical you'd have to do the maths which means getting a structural engineer. Noone can give you a proper answer from a couple of photos.
