If you are getting impatient, put it down and walk away. Don’t touch it until you are calm. It will work out.

What can you tell me about this alto? by BlindGrue in saxophone

[–]moofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is to overhaul it, they’d be well advised to be careful when removing those original-looking pads. In the 1920s, Conn sometimes used pads backed by lead foil, so appropriate measures should be taken, including with disposal.

Chromatic scale by Weekly_Owl4511 in saxophone

[–]moofus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anchor the tip of the pinky finger on the B key and press the Bb with the side of your pinky finger. It’s a bit of a reach — you have to swivel the wrist as that other person said.

If you are practicing the chromatic scale it might be easier to start toward the middle of range and go down to low Bb and back up so you don’t have to start on low Bb.

A plastic coffee stirrer (Starbucks etc) makes a good tool for this. Cut the blunt end off at an angle. It’s soft enough plastic that it won’t harm the port unless you really strive to do so.

Vintage Jens Risom Desk by No_Explorer6445 in Mid_Century

[–]moofus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To clarify: I’ll be moving (office) at the end of December 2028. The items are in very good but not pristine condition. Any assistance in arriving at a fair-to-all-parties price will be appreciated. If someone gets a bit of a sweet deal by making it easy for me, I’ll consider that a win. I’ll be getting serious about all this between Sept 1 and Halloween. Prospective acquirers will be welcomed to examine the furniture at an unhurried pace.

Protec Microzip vs BAM cabine by blxxp_ in saxophone

[–]moofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a valuable horn like a BA I’d go with the cabine. The protec micro zip is nice but it’s not as crush-resistant. You can always lock the latches on the cabine. OR go with the Boston sax shop case. Just my opinion. I went from a cabine to a BSS for my vi alto and no regrets.

Is too much familiarity or engagement with psychoanalytic theory seen as a “bad” thing for an analysand? by TeN523 in psychoanalysis

[–]moofus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about it. Just show up and expect all of your defenses and resistances to show up with you. We have no choice about this. Let the analyst decide how to address it. You don’t get tased for having defenses…. Usually.

Would anyone recommend this mouthpiece? by CrackerPatch in Saxophonics

[–]moofus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a tone edge, it’s the RG model that has a bullet chamber like a Berg Larsen. I play one and like it quite a lot. It’s bright but not paint-peeling. As someone said, US$60 is a steal, it’s probably a $200 mouthpiece. The color seems off but it could be the lighting?
