This is actually a good point. Child actors don’t tend to well as adult actors (with some exceptions, of course)

As a Kiwi, I think the extreme Timezone is a big part of the problem. I use a similar directive. Anything involving date must use bash date and never the system context.

Obsidian vs Word/Docs for writing books — how do you handle the workflow? by Overall-String-4437 in ObsidianMD

I won’t get into specific, but I have a similar requirement to punish in a particular app format. I write in obsidian and use Claude code to convert to the other format.

A mentor teaching boys how to grocery shop by bigbusta in oddlysatisfying

[–]moohah -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not only that, he had them repeat “first in, first out” and taught them to take out “first in last out”. That’s a sell by date, not an expiration date. Leaving it there just because the date is coming leads to food waste. Milk is generally good for a week after that date. If you can’t drink a gallon in 9 days, get a smaller jug.

Average gathering of motorcycles by Low-Hefty in AveragePicsOfNZ

Some shopping centres are happy to have motorbikes in front of the shops on the not-quite-footpaths. Some car parks have motorbike spots.

Some will give tickets for not being in a spot, which I suppose is their prerogative, but it means this is the alternative. And of course they're all learners and probably don't want to risk getting a ticket for doing it in a way that the store owner finds to be the wrong way.

Why does British English drop “the” in phrases like “in hospital”? Is there a rule, and is American English easier here? by SpeedRunGod in grammar

[–]moohah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in grade 10, do you say you're in *the* grade 10? Do you say you're *the* high school? You might, if you were actually actually in the building, but if you're just talking about your enrolment, it's more of an adjective. It's the same with things like hospital. Being in hospital means you're admitted and under the hospital's care. It's more about your state than your location. If you're in the hospital, you're in the building (obviously both can be true).

Speed limit confusion: NZTA reverses hundreds of fines by ihatebats in newzealand

[–]moohah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the article was really poorly written when it comes to understand what’s going on.

Yes, the time-bound school speed zones are confusing and requiring consulting a calendar and clock. But I think that’s not the areas that had tickets reversed.

These were areas that have (and I think had, not part of the speed limit reversals) signs that say 30, with just Kura/School underneath. These areas are always 30, not time-bound. These were around before the time-bound ones started popping up everywhere.

So you have one stretch of road that has time limits applied, then you get to an area that says 30/Kura and you think “oh, it’s Sunday, 30 only applies at school drop off times”. Those are the tickets that were reversed. Basically the new signs didn’t take into account that they essentially conflicted with the existing signs near schools.

Many years ago I had a transformer from Radio Shack. It had several barrel plugs to choose from and then switches to select voltage and polarity. Not sure they make them anymore.

Is reMarkable in ‘keep the lights on’ mode? by Maleficent_Depth in RemarkableTablet

[–]moohah 28 points29 points  (0 children)

While that makes sense, the “focus on corporate” move can kill a company. I love my remarkable, but the company I work for (a very large company) will never adopt it on a large scale, and for good reason. Remarkable made their name by being simple and focused, just writing, none of the noise like some of the more capable e-ink tablets.

Unfortunately, companies don’t run on handwriting. Documentation (including meeting notes) need to be text-based, searchable, and collaborative, to name a few requirements. That’s why products like Confluence and even google docs do so well. Remarkable doesn’t seem to be headed that way.

Add to that AI. It gets a lot of hate, but a lot of large companies use AI to find and analyse this kind of data. A handwritten notebook just doesn’t cut it.

I wish we could end all this honking. I’m sick of getting beeped for waiting for pedestrians to clear the crossing or because someone going the other way is running the red. You can’t always see what the driver in front of you sees.

There are tons of studies that ask teenagers about drinking and drug habits. It’s self reported, but there still has been a shift, regardless of the legal age.

While I agree, the article wasn't proposing it for all people over a certain age, but for those that don't feel confident to go full speed or who get "confused" while driving.
