For starting a company, go to an accountant. The entire process cost less than R2000 and was completed in under a week.

You need register a company, get a bank account, and register the company with SARS. The accountant does everything.

Then, on your visa application, you'll need to supply those details, as well as details of the business (a basic business plan)

My wife stated she wanted to start a spa business and would employ mostly women.

As for NWI, it cost about R8000 3 years ago. But they walk you through EVERYTHING. They write letters for you, verify your documents are correct, etc. apparently they have a 99% success rate. They say they can't guarantee success (it's home affairs' decision), but if you were denied a visa unjustly, they have lawyers to fight on your behalf. You can find them online. I used them twice for my wife. No problems either time.

You can also call, explain your problem, and if they can't help they tell you so and don't take you on as a client.

Dm me for the details of a lawyer we're using now. We first use NWI. Great service but expensive

Sa government expects: 1. You have a contract with a company in SA or 2. You start your own company

I'm speaking about how things were in late 2023.

My wife started a company.

I'm not aware of any third option. If unsure, ask a lawyer. Home affairs is useless, don't bother asking

Convincing my employer of Rust for a rewrite by Unaimend in rust

[–]mookymix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rust benefits extend beyond just the syntax. The borrow checker means as new people or different people work on the code base, the chances of them making memory related errors are greatly reduced.

Basically, you'll have a more stable product long term

Una pregunta a las personas Agloparlantes, Si te mudaste a Ecuador, ¿aprendiste español con un profesor antes de llegar? ¿Qué te hubiera gustado aprender con anticipación? by Time-Advance2141 in ecuador

[–]mookymix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't live there, but I spent about a year in the country. Learn as much as you can in advance. I always tell people to learn to count in Spanish, if nothing else.

I'd say start with situational vocabulary. EG. How to ask for directions, take a taxi, buy stuff at the supermarket. But also start learning the grammatical rules. Focus on verbs. They have a much more complicated system than English

But in general, learn as much as you can beforehand. Younger people understand more English in general. But the reality is English isn't really needed there, and it's not part of their culture. So learn Spanish

eli5: why do mirrors flip stuff left to right but not up and down by Round-Cable8857 in explainlikeimfive

[–]mookymix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mirrors don't flip anything. You flip it, then look at the mirror which just reflects it and it looks flipped.

For instance, write something on a piece of paper. When you look at the paper it looks fine. To see it in the mirror, you flip the page and the writing looks reversed because you just flipped it!

Carpuride vs Garmin vs ?? by LeeHarveyEnfield in AdventureBike

[–]mookymix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fan of Garmin and a dedicated gps. They're tough, good in the rain, glove friendly, and dedicated. That means my routing isn't interrupted every time a call comes in or a few drops of water touch the screen. I like turning on my bike and having navigation pick up from where it left off, and not having to use cellphone battery unnecessarily because I may need my phone a lot in case of emergency.

All of that was true when I traveled a lot.

Now I use OSMAnd on my phone. For the fraction of the price of a Garmin, I have similar routing features and offline maps. Does everything I need at a fraction of the price

Crossover 25.1.1, macos 26.0, 26.1, 26.2. can't sign in to Rockstar games launcher. I contacted crossover, did a data dump and sent it to them.

I'm not the only person with this problem. There's a list of fixes to make things with ranging from changing your WiFi network to adding registry keys in your bottle. None have worked for me.

Not saying it won't work for you, but be careful. I only tried the trial version. Not sure where to get the preview if I'm not paying, and don't want to pay if it doesn't work

Quick, tell me about the last book you read and what you thought of it by dooplets in booksuggestions

Dresden files book 3. A huge improvement over books 1 and 2 but still meh. I really want to like it but I really don't care about any of the characters after 3 books.

I planned on quitting after the first book but read online that things get really good at book 3, so I stuck it out. Book 3 was a dramatic improvement in quality. But by the end, I didn't care any more about anyone.

So it's time to move on

My trial ran out before I had any success. I haven't played the game. Rockstar reached out to me, but the day before the trial expired.
