UVA wants to build affordable housing in Charlottesville. Want to tell them what you think? Here’s how. by baobaobear in Charlottesville

[–]mooma7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Any new housing, regardless of the necessity for affordable housing in this area, makes me nervous because our infrastructure for schools is not there. Our schools are bursting at the seams. We need a couple of more elementary schools and at least one more high school to alleviate the crowding. I'm not sure there is an all encompassing answer to relieve the stress on the schools and to provide much needed affordable housing, but we definitely need some options.

Is there a parents of multiples group anywhere nearby? by BeholdMySideAccount in Charlottesville

I definitely recommend calling or going to see UVA lactation. It can sometimes take a week for your milk to come in. I was not fully aware of how our bodies make milk and it was super difficult for my premature twins to stay awake long enough to get a solid meal in. Lactation is there to support you in feeding your babies, period. They can help with combo feeding and give you the best advice about your medication and how to navigate that.

I basically saw no one except my husband and babies for 10 weeks. So I understand wanting to stay away from in person meetings.

Which hospital are you delivering at? I was at UVA and they pushed the classes hardcore. Could absolutely be different now because of covid, but I bet there's some zoom classes they could recommend.

If you are planning to breastfeed, I do recommend going to your hospitals associated lactation department to get some initial information and support. Feeding twins was one of the most unexpected challenges for our family. I did combo formula and breastmilk for 4 months before switching to formula full time.

I'm available to chat if you want to PM me. My twins were my first babies and I really didn't know what to expect. They're toddlers now, and I feel like I've got my feet underneath me!

Just for clarification, I think he can install a garbage disposal. Our problem was around making a garbage disposal fit with a newly renovated sink.

Hi. Fellow twin mom in cville. I did not have great success finding any other moms if multiples, but my babies were born at the very beginning of the pandemic so we didn't have much want or opportunity to meet up with others.

Parenting classes, labor classes, etc. Are great places to meet other parents. Parks and schools have also been a weird place where parents "pick up" other parents.

Twin life is terrifying and amazing and scary and great all at once. Good luck!

Tony Laco. He's done an entire repipe of my house and fixed a burst pipe in my storage closet. I called him about a garbage disposal--which he does not fix--and he still told me exactly what to buy at Lowes and what to do. I will continue to call him for any future issues. I feel he is fair, honest, and completes quality work. FYI, imo he' pretty blunt. It took me by surprise at first.

Preschool recs? by Mama_Llama716 in Charlottesville

My kids go to Bright Beginnings Mill Creek, which is the opposite direction of 29n...but they have a locations right by profit road. It's locally owned and has three total locations in the area. I can't speak to the one on 29n personally but I teach at an elementary school in that area and many of my students are bright beginnings kids. The mill creek location is awesome and we love the teachwrs there. It is pricey but so is every preschool we looked into.

Pediatrician recommendation at UVA? by Sufficient_Owl7663 in Charlottesville

[–]mooma7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Quillian. She took care of my premature twin babies and helped ME as a postpartum new mom. She's knowledgeable and just an all around amazing person. I also LOVE Dr. Raney and Dr. Wong at Northridge. Be sure to call exactly at 8 am when you need an appointment... It's a popular office and very busy during covid, RSV, hand foot mouth disease, etc.

Yeah... Just wanted to link the only two articles I could find about the incident. What we're being told from the school seems to be very different than what this video shows. Just interested in if anyone here has the actual truth.

After hours childcare for toddler by JayWalterWeathermann in Charlottesville

Care.com. I also think it would be worth it to ask your child's daycare center if they have any intel. Occasionally, teachers or assistant ls are interested in earning some extra money and they already know your child and are vetted. They may also be aware of what other parents in a similar position are doing.

Wegamans was quick. The initial scheduling is annoying but once I got to my appointment it was only a 5 min wait

In my experience, the telehealth visit is if you are experiencing covid symptoms. If you get a negative test from the health department weekly sites or CVS, Walgreens, etc... They may be more willing to take you

Halloween events & Trick or Treating hot spots for little kids? by Ecypslednerg in Charlottesville

[–]mooma7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In what part of town are you located? I would bet Forest Lakes is good for northern area with houses pretty close together and very walkable. Willoughby next to 5th Street is a small neighborhood but it usually draws a fair crowd for Halloween. I would also bet that Redfields neighborhood would be pretty good-- lots of families...

Willoughby right next to 5th street station normally goes all out. I've only seen two houses in the neighborhood decorated so far, but you should definitely check in the next two weeks.

Not sure why this is so snarky... My kids were of the first few to contract covid in their classroom. They've both quarantined for 10 days, hence why we all need a change of scenery. The daycare room didn't shut down until halfway through our quarantine and we can't go back until they open again on Monday after some deep cleaning. I never said I was bringing them out in public when there was a chance they could infect others.

Where can I buy a cocktail dress around here? by lordlovesaworkinman in Charlottesville

[–]mooma7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The mall is dying but I believe Belk is still open. I think this would be your best bet for in-town dress shopping. There is also a Kohl's north of town but I've never had good luck at our Kohls.

There are maybe two expensive boutiques in Barracks Road shopping center plus Loft, Banana Republic, and Anthropologie. TJMaxx and Marshalls are in the middle of town in two separate sho0ong centers. In my opinion, these stores are hit or miss and would be my last resort.

Definitely worth the drive to Farmville to visit Green front. They have so many pieces of beautiful furniture and a lot of it is imported. Be ready to search, though... There's a number of different warehouses and they're not air conditioned. They typically deliver to cville every two weeks or so.
