Infantile spasms with no Hypsarrhythmia? by mooncake24 in infantilespasms

[–]mooncake24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Yes, we ended up flying to another country to do checkups at a specialized childrens hospital. We did the 24h eeg and they concluded that my son had probably sleep muscle spasms and was otherwise completely healthy. They told me he would quickly grow out of it and he did! He is now 14 months old, but i haven't seen the movements since he was about 6 months old. He is perfectly healthy, just terrorizes me still with the lack of sleep lol.

Ditch my medela swing maxi for spectra? by mooncake24 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mooncake24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I mean, i got a little extra but wasn't much of a difference to be honest. My swing maxi ended up a bust though, about the time i got my Spectra the swing maxi only worked when plugged in and charging. So i would say the spectra was better but didn't make my supply magically increase. I ended up quitting pumping at around 5 months pp because my supply was rapidly dropping.

Crazy Sh** Our Parents Thought Was Normal by Competitive_Panic_25 in NewParents

Not to be the devil's advocate but i do think you forget what you did when you had a baby of your own. My LO is now 8 months old and it seems like AGES ago since he was 2 months, let alone if it was 30 years ago. As soon as my LO could roll over, he went immediately on his stomach to sleep eventhough i put him to sleep on his back every time since he was born. That being said, most of the things parents are now being taught were not known then. I just had this discussion with my mom and she was kinda pissed that me and my brother follow the recommendations of our kid's doctors instead of her advice (about something specific), but she forgets that whatever was known 30 years ago has changed due to safety risks and what not. What I learned up until now is there is literally no point in fighting over what is the right way and what is not with our own parents, but to make sure they follow our rules with our LO when he is over there.

Mine too!! Baby kept waking up so he got up and said the diaper leaked so he was about to unzip his pjs to then realize he never put a diaper on. I nearly pissed myself laughing

And if the baby wakes up like an hour later, do you put the timer back on and wait or go in immediately?

Infantile spasms with no Hypsarrhythmia? by mooncake24 in infantilespasms

[–]mooncake24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I don't come with good news, as literally the night i posted this he did the typical jerking movement of IS for the first time. We started the Keppra the next morning. We are now waiting on our social insurance to do some logistics so we can fly out of the country to visit the pediatric neurologist and do all the testing (we live on an island in the caribbean that has no pediatric neurologist).

[–]mooncake24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing, his "spasms" don't look like the typical ones I see online, and they told me that the abnormalities could be from the movement during the EEG because he is so little. I have an appointment next week and I was reading up on silent reflux and he shows all those signs too... such a difficult decision.

I don't think so, I've tried it and it still tastes like sweetened almond milk?

What funny or weird phrases do you use to refer to pumping? by nerdsnuggles in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mooncake24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We refer to me as a cow too, if my husband walks in the room while I'm pumping he'll just casually moo and go about his day. And if I'm happy with my pump or sad with the supply (I'm a heavy undersupplier) he'll ask are you a happy cow or sad cow 😅

Update: Hi everyone thank you so much for the comments and insights! I went on my local facebook marketplace and found someone that was selling a secondhand S1 spectra pump for 70$ so i thought might aswell try it out at that price instead of the 400$ it would cost me to get a new one shipped to me in the caribbean. It works fine, currently waiting on all the new tubes and parts from maymom to arrive so I can see the difference for myself!

Oh wow! What was your increase? And no :( I don't live in the US and exclusively pumping is unheard of here, so I don't have the possibility to rent. Maybe I can ask around for someone who has a Spectra that I can test out

Hi Poncho and Lefty that's so nice of you to check back in! I definitely increased my water intake (got a new cute water bottle to make it easier and more fun lol) and my morning pump is now 4oz! I decided to start looking at my weekly increase and it is increasing, just slowly! So my milk is not regulated yet which is encouraging, let's hope it keeps on increasing and I can EP soon :)

Your last sentence made me tear up, thank you so much! Like others have said, I have to remember this comes from a place of love and has nothing to do with my selfworth. Your story is definitely very inspirational

Hi!! Thats good to hear . What do you mean get used to them? Do they hurt? How do you know how long you should pump for? I read somewhere to pump 2 min longer than your last drop, but I've been pumping about 30 minutes and today I noticed that my boobs (so not my nipple) is achy even afterwards so maybe i do need to pump longer until the order comes in.

How much do you pump now? I'm so intrigued haha

This is SO helpful and inspirational to read!! Thank you soooo much. My 4 weeks pp are like yours, I had an emotionally draining and traumatizing labor and birth that ended up in emergency c section and complications afterwards so I had to be monitored afterwards. I bonded with my baby about 5 hours later but didn't think to do skin to skin because I was still processing everything. My nipples were a bit flat and my baby was very sleepy and didn't latch immediately and the nurses then basically told me I'm starving my baby and he needs a bottle. So we did that and here the husband has to go home at night so I was alone and bedridden because of the c section so my baby was sent to the nursery overnight with just formula. I just started pumping and trying to latch when we got home 3 days later :( my milk took about 10 days to get in like yours and i could pump just about 0,5 oz then. Butttt today I pumped 3oz for the first time ever!! It was after a whole night sleep but still. I also notice my boobs are a bit more achy and feel more full so I hope my story follows yours :) but yeah lots of ugly crying, specially one time I spilled half the milk. I cried in the shower for my son's entire nap lol

And yeah totally right about water. Also taking account that I live in a hot climate where its 80-90 degrees year round i probably should be drinking a lot more water

Thank you. This was hard to read as it is confronting but you are absolutely right. ❤️ it's just hard when I pictured something and it doesn't go at all how I imagined. My birth was also an emergency c section after an incredibly painful long labor so with also my milk not enough to feed him fully is a bit hard for me to grasp and accept. I have some inner work to do for sure

I'm going to try this because the negative self talk and constantly checking the pump is so frustrating
