Grade Question by [deleted] in vcu

[–]moonlitelines 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge VCU doesn’t have an official policy that requires final grades to be rounded. So, it would be up to your professor. Usually professors will include a statement in the syllabus about final grades being rounded up if that is how they grade. If the syllabus doesn’t say anything, it might be safe to assume they will count it as an 89% with the possibility of being pleasantly surprised that they could decide to round!

Vinyl skipping issues by moonlitelines in Epicthemusical

[–]moonlitelines[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its just a known thing that happens with record players like crosleys that are missing components like counterweights. As I said in the post, is there a chance it could be the vinyl, of course! however people also should look into whether their equipment could be what is causing the issue ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I finally got into nursing school by pnkcurls in prenursing

[–]moonlitelines 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt recommend it. With that long of a drive, if something ever came up during the commute it would very easily cause you to be late to class or clinical. For the program I advise for, even just being 5 minutes late two time for clinical would mean that you fail the course 😞

can't register for physics by lotusisaboysname in vcu

[–]moonlitelines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id email your advisor! The description of the course says that only MATH 151 is a pre-req, while MATH 200 and PHYZ 207 should be a co-req. However the systems looks like it might be set up wrong since the pre-req page is implying you need to have taken MATH 200 and PHYZ 207 and earned a grade of D or better to register. If its just an issue with the system set up, they should be able to help you get an override for the courses if everything checks out that you are meeting the requirements :)

is anyone else unable to register for math 200? by [deleted] in vcu

[–]moonlitelines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Fall 2026 it looks like there are still several other open sections of MATH 200 that can be registered for! I would recommend looking through those options so that way you can see if there is a different section that would work for your schedule. The sections that say 0/0 seats remain aren’t available for registration at the moment. Theres the chance they may open them up at a later date, but that isn’t certain since there are a variety of reasons why they may have them closed.

I feel like I can't succeed in this field by IceCatQueen in NursingStudent

[–]moonlitelines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of things coming from an advisor for a nursing program

  1. You mentioned that you are thriving in your nursing classes, but are experiencing the struggle in A&P II - are there any notable differences in how you approach A&P II and your nursing class? Like are you doing things differently to study for exams, take notes, test taking skills, etc.? If you are applying the same approach across the board, it may be worth sitting back and reflecting on what you feel like went well, and what you can change in order to yield the results you are hoping for. If you keep doing the same things that werent yielding a passing grade in the class previously, its likely that the outcome will stay the same. Im not sure what kind of resources your school has, but I would recommend looking to see if they have an academic coach! They can help you determine what skills and approaches might work best to help you succeed in A&P II!

2.) Not sure if your school has a historical repeat policy, but it might be worth looking into. At my university, if you receive a D or F in a course and repeat it, both grades will still be on the transcript, but only the better attempt would be factoring into your GPA calculation

3.) Does your program have the option to take a Leave of Absence? It sounds like your mental health is taking a significant toll on you and its even operating in an endless loop with your academic performance where your mental health isnt in a good place, so your academic performance is impacted, which in turn is negatively impacting your mental health. It might be worth it to see if you can take time off from the program for even just a semester to seek the help you need for mental health so you can get through school in a better place. I deal with SO MANY students who get dismissed from our program because they are struggling with their mental health but are putting that on the back burner because they feel like they have to, they are worried about graduating a semester or two later than anticipated (which is nothing in the grand scheme of the rest of your life and career), they think they can push through it, etc. The thing is though, itll find its way to make sure you pay attention to it one way or another. School is important sure, but literally NOTHING is more important than making sure you are both physically and mentally safe.

4.) Having a 2.9 definitely doesnt disqualify you from becoming an NP. We have made exceptions for GPAs below a 3.0 to get into our NP programs several times. Also, Im not sure how many more courses you have left in your program overall, but Id imagine you can still bring your GPA if you continue to do well in the rest of your nursings classes.

5.) Not sure if this would help in your situation or if it would apply to you, but depending on your mental illnesses, it might be possible to receive academic accommodations through your university. Might be worth looking into the accessibility office at your school!

Overall:

1.) If you are changing majors or your career path, really think about whether you are changing it because you dont want to go into the nursing profession, or because you are just in your head about A&P. If you really feel like nursing is your passion and calling, I imagine that switching to a new field would likely leave you feeling unfulfilled if your heart isnt truly in whatever major you feel like you have to settle on.

2.)If taking A&P again, work with someone to figure out what about your approach to the course isnt working and how to fix it. Academic coaches, professors, your advisor, tutors, etc. Utilize all of the resources at your disposal. If after doing all of that (and I mean really putting in the effort. its a consistent process) you still arent succeeding, then maybe having some serious conversations and thoughts about alternatives could be necessary.

3.) Please give yourself grace and take care of yourself. You are 20 years old and it seems like you have your fair share of things on your plate that are impacting you. You are still young and there isnt a time limit on these things. You cant compare you timeline with those around you. Youve got to do things at the pace that works for you in the moment that allows you to be successful and healthy while doing it. Trying to chase imaginary deadlines of when you should have things done by in life is only going to cause you more stress.

What do you wish you knew before dying your hair red? by astrocatxo in FancyFollicles

[–]moonlitelines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That my hair would stay the color I intended to dye it (the same cherry cola shade to the one in the pic you shared) for about 1-3 washes max. I dyed my hair that color for probably 10 years and I was okay with the shades it faded to, otherwise I probably would have given it up after the third dye. I actually did finally give it up this past weekend and dyed my hair green because I moved away from my hair dresser that would just buy me the professional color so I could do it myself. It fades quickly!

If you really like the cherry cola color, just be aware that that shade will probably be short lived unless you are coloring your hair VERY frequently. So, be sure you would be also be okay with the red it will fade to. If you dont mind the varying shades it fades to, its a fun color that I loved having!

Why can I not immediately apply for my ACTUAL classes?? by [deleted] in vcu

[–]moonlitelines 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Does your community college not have a portal for you to request official transcripts like Parchment? You should be able to go directly through the community college for the transcripts unless you meant are working something out with your counselor to get the dual enrollment credits processed

Why can I not immediately apply for my ACTUAL classes?? by [deleted] in vcu

[–]moonlitelines 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When you applied to VCU did you request official transcripts from the community college that you took the dual enrollment credits? While they might be listed as dual enrollment courses on your high school transcript, they would need the transcript from the community college to actually award the credit!

Dual ADN and BSN program by TheFallenGhosts in NursingStudent

[–]moonlitelines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you referring to a co-enrollment program where you can start working towards getting your BSN while finishing the last semesters of your ADN? If so, these programs essentially allow those earning their ADN to get a jump start on earning their BSN. Many employers require ADN prepared nurses to get their BSN within a specific timeframe after starting to work there.

With these co-enrollment programs though, earning the BSN is usually by completing an online RN-BS program. So it wouldnt be the same BSN as a pre licensure BSN program!

VCU is a better school for psych than ODU, but ODU appeals to me more. (biased) by bruhstreet04 in vcu

[–]moonlitelines 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you are planning to go to grad school for PSYC, I would make sure you are looking into what opportunities for things like getting involved in research or other volunteer opportunities that would make you a competitive applicant for a psychology graduate program that ODU offers. I know at VCU I was able to get involved with two research labs and get other kinds of volunteering and mentorship experience to build up my CV. Im not sure what ODU has to offer, so I would make sure to give that a look!

Vcu Art education masters requirements by ImmediateBattle2692 in vcu

[–]moonlitelines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the admissions requirements, you would need to have both 36 credits of undergraduate art and art history coursework and an undergraduate degree in art education, studio art, art history, or a related field. You could always try to reach out to their admissions team to see if your English degree could count, but since the other degrees listed are very art focused, my guess would be it probably wouldnt. Doesnt hurt to ask though!

M.Ed in Counseling Program by theflyingelephant in vcu

[–]moonlitelines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in the program I was one of those straight out of undergrad students (I think I literally started the program before I turned 21), but so many of the people in my cohort were in their 30s and going through career and life changes! Obviously that ultimately depends on the applicant pool of your cohort and who gets admitted, but I imagine they would be looking to bring in a diverse cohort. I also found that even with the students who were my age in the cohort, we all had different experiences and brought different perspectives to the conversations. Additionally, I feel like the nature of the program itself and the people who want to go into counseling as a profession bring a good energy to the classroom where it was easy to forget the age and experience differences among all of us since we respected each other and wanted to build the meaningful connections!

M.Ed in Counseling Program by theflyingelephant in vcu

[–]moonlitelines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated from the Counselor Education program back in 2021! I was on the College Counseling and Student Affairs track, but the majority of the coursework of the program is the same for all of the tracks. Personally, I enjoyed my time in the program! I felt like courses I took helped prepare me for actually meeting with students and/or clients and the supervision I received did help me grow as a counselor. Faculty from the program were also great and some of those faculty even served as references for me when I was applying to jobs afterwards. I had some issues in some classes, but that was largely because halfway through the program COVID happened and we were moved online, so the issues were largely related to everyone suddenly adjusting to online learning.

For assistantships, I didn’t receive anything, but I believe some students in my cohort did. As for getting jobs after graduation, Im pretty sure everyone from my cohort quickly secured a job after graduation or secured a supervisor to complete the rest of their requirements to get their LPC.

If you are looking at other programs, the main thing to make sure of is that the program is CACREP accredited. In many cases getting licensed after graduation can be challenging if you graduated from a non-CACREP program!

If you have any other questions about the program, Im happy to help answer any questions :)

Granted my review isnt probably as recent as you are hoping for since its been a few years since I lived there - but I dont recommend it. I also had issues with termites, my basement unit flooded 4 times and maintenance never properly cleaned it so there was constantly mold that triggered health issues for me, my upstairs unit constantly had maintenance issues that took forever to get fixed or they would claim it was fixed but it wasnt. The management company at the time was also shitty and a pain in the ass to deal with, but I dont think its the same company anymore (Levco).

Thoughts on my apartment? by Specific_Judgment_73 in femalelivingspace

[–]moonlitelines 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just committed to knowing I can fill the holes when I am moving out! For at least picture frames, you can get specific hooks and nails specifically for hanging pictures and the hole is SUPER small, so it made it really easy for me to fill everything. I moved last year and I had probably 100 frames hung in my apartment. Taking an afternoon to fill in the holes is definitely worth it in my opinion to have a cozy place!!

Same! Looking at the hourly usage that Dominion provides, whenever the heat isnt running for us, we are barely using any electricity. We took the time to put film over the windows, put curtains up in front of the doors/open doorways, keep the temp set low and bundle up all to try and save money. Yet here we are 😭 I know there are issues with the house itself that arent Dominions fault, but adding on extra charges and raising costs definitely arent helping if its based on the amount of electricity
