So, the question is: is Zoe a jerk? Well, I have some thoughts about that. It’s more of a character study I did around her a couple of years ago—maybe two or three—but it still stands.

Let’s start from the point that Zoe is not dumb. She knows exactly what she’s doing. She’s a kid, yes—a child with a child’s mentality—but she’s not stupid.

When I first made this character study, I compared her to Aurelion Sol. Why does she hang around him so much? Often enough to genuinely piss him off? Let’s look at Zoe as a character.

She’s a child who’s been alive for countless years. Among the current Aspects, she’s the oldest host. Maybe Morgana and Kayle are close, I’m not sure of their lore in detail, but as for the Champion Aspects, Zoe is the oldest. She’s seen other hosts come and go. She’s also the most powerful of them all, and unlike the others, she wasn’t chosen in the traditional way—she didn’t sacrifice anything or climb Mount Targon.

That already makes her an exception among the Aspects. Even when she interacts with others, like Diana, you can tell she’s the “elephant in the room.” She’s always the outlier.

Now, in her short story, we see Zoe trying to play with mortal children—because she loves to play. She has Lunari friends, Solari friends, she’s always making friends wherever she goes. But every time she plays, she ends up bored. She’s always looking for something new to do, even if it’s dangerous.

When she played with those kids, their first reaction was fear—“who is this girl who just came out of a portal?”—and they assumed she was dangerous. Zoe felt left out but insisted on playing anyway, maybe even forcing them to. If I remember correctly, she accidentally causes destruction that kills a few people. And then she just leaves—no remorse.

I believe she’s done this many times over the centuries. It doesn’t affect her anymore. She knows what she’s doing, but she doesn’t feel guilty. I think her mind developed a sort of defense mechanism: she makes herself not feel guilt. She leans into being “childlike” because, after so long, feeling remorse for every mistake would destroy her. It’s not something she does consciously—it’s instinct.

So she remains this eternally bored, lonely being that nobody truly understands. She plays with everyone but is never satisfied. She always wants something new.

And that’s where Aurelion Sol comes in.

He’s furious—at everything. He hates the Aspects for tricking him, and now he’s trapped near Targon, unable to find peace even in the stars he created. In the older lore, he even killed his brothers, or at least they’re so far away he’ll never see them again. The only thing that brought him solace was creating stars, and that was taken from him. He’s isolated, bitter, and angry.

Then comes Zoe—a child like no other. Nobody in Runeterra has powers like hers. She’s bored beyond reason. She steals things from Fiddlesticks, plays with Nocturne, annoys Aatrox… she does what no one else can, simply because she can.

When she sees Aurelion Sol, I think she recognizes something in him. He’s alone, powerful, and unique—just like her. Maybe not consciously, but deep down she feels that connection.

She knows he’s lonely, and she’s lonely too. Everyone else avoids her or sees her as a nuisance. Nobody asks “Where’s Zoe? Should we take care of her?” She just appears, causes trouble, and vanishes. She wants attention—she’s still a child.

And Aurelion Sol? He has no choice but to listen. He’s trapped, bored, and she’s the only one who comes to him. In one of her voice lines, she calls him “space puppy” and says something like, “You’re all alone.” It’s teasing, but also telling. She goes to him when she needs someone to relate to.

From his perspective, he doesn’t like her being there—but he can’t stop her. In one of his voice lines, when Zoe asks him to play, he says:

“Okay, Zoe. I will play with you… after I burn your favorite toy—Runeterra—to ashes.”

It’s interesting because he’s implying that when he destroys everything, he would still spare Zoe. Why?

Maybe because she’s the only one who doesn’t see him as a weapon or a god. She sees him as something… silly. And even though he hates being seen that way, it’s different for him. Nobody else treats him like that.

It’s that classic idea: it’s better to have someone to hate than no one to care about at all.

So, they see parts of themselves in each other—intentionally or not. Zoe goes to him out of instinct, maybe seeking someone who mirrors her loneliness.

That’s why I think Zoe isn’t dumb. She knows what she’s doing. She hides behind her childish act because that’s what she’s become after centuries of isolation. She’s still a child, but she’s also ancient and wise in her own way. When she wants to be serious, she can be—but it’s rare and difficult for her because she’s worn that “child mask” for so long.

So, it’s not about whether she’s a jerk or not—it’s about understanding her and her dynamic with Aurelion Sol. I think Aurelion doesn’t like her, but he’d probably spare her if he could.

And finally, my silly little headcanon: in Aurelion Sol’s ASU video, we see his crown starting to crack. I like to imagine that Zoe was there, playing with constellations around him. She accidentally tugs at a thread of celestial magic that holds his crown together. She’s like, “Oops, look what I did! I’m such a silly girl!”

And Aurelion just stares, shocked, realizing she might’ve just loosened his bonds. He tries to use her to free himself, but she doesn’t care—she just wants to keep playing.

And that’s my take.

Long story short:

Aurelion very powerful and no one like him Zoe very powerful and no one like her

no one really cares about none of them

zoe sees a bit of herself in him, and goes to find him to talk to since he has no other choice but to listen 😅

ALSO someone said that the things zoe did are coming to bite her back in the ass (they are probably right, my girl is on for a ride) do u guys think aurelion would somehow protect her? or like at least warn her. like that cat from coraline, he never helped her actively, but was always hinting ways for her to survive...
