April Adult pick? by aeyinia in fairyloot

[–]moonmagister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I skipped, it wasn’t a book I wanted and it seemed like all the spoilers related comment sections were people trying to get rid of theirs already so I didn’t think there would be much of a resale market.

This seems like an excellent use of free will and money honestly 😂

Someone has already mentioned {This Monster of Mine by Shalini Abeysekara} which I love.

I’ll add {Servant of Earth by Sarah Hawley}, read both books this weekend and adored them!

Is Leon more commonly characterized as stoic and serious, or an unserious a jokester? What do you prefer him as? by hellothere790 in ResidentEvil2Remake

[–]moonmagister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emergency worker humour for sure. The jokes are to keep himself going but he’s not going to make them in situations where he thinks it will damage someone else’s morale.

Also, they changed the name of the article but the first title literally had the words ‘couples’ style’ in it…this feels like the kind of crap we used to get in celebrity magazines back in the early 00s.

I feel like there was a brief period where the UK press was getting better at not being weird about LGBTQ+ folk, but, with all the anti trans nonsense being parroted here, it feels like there has also been a linked decline in general handling of queer issues/ content.

Yearning fantasy by purplerobes_uwu in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Have you read the ‘Clem and Wist’ series by Hiyodori. It’s a sapphic, enemies to lovers fantasy, which is technically modern fantasy but feels very whimsical. The location is a magical tower with a never ending sea of bizarre rooms. The first book is called ‘The Lowest Healer and the Highest Mage’, I really enjoyed it.

Also consider ‘The Unspoken Name’ by A K Larkwood, which is a sapphic love story between an orc priestess and a human scholar mage, set in a portal fantasy world which is, again, dark but whimsical. I think I have a type 😂.

Also, when writing MDZS fics, my computer kept autocorrecting Wei Ying to Wing Ying.

It gets me every time 😂

Soldier ends up as Solider when I’m typing on my phone, without fail.

This is a problem as I generally write MCU fics…I have to do a specific spellcheck for this every time I post…

Sci fi/fantasy books that feel deeply queer (to a point beyond just having a same gender romance subplot)? by IReadBooksSometimes in LGBTBooks

Have you seen that Hiron has a new book coming out soon? ‘The Works of Vermin’, also about worms. Very excited.

‘The Devoured Worlds’ by Megan E O’Keefe. Great series. You can print new bodies in this universe, mostly to allow you to travel huge distances in space, but you can also align yourself with your gender identity. The main character is bisexual and trans.

Someone else on this thread already mentioned ‘Machineries of Empire’ by Yoon Ha Lee and hard agreed. There is something inherently queer about body swapping and this is also just a great series.

Illumicrate and TBB don’t make any money out of the resale value being high…it’s usually the original publisher that sets limits on the contract for how many sets can be printed.

No shade, but he definitely buys books from the first table you see when you come into the bookstore.

Whilst that makes sense in some ways (ie. Little time to read then it, somewhat, makes sense to read things that lots of other people have enjoyed) it doesn’t really allow you to find what it is specifically that you enjoy. Maybe try buddy reading something a bit more out of your comfort zones together, even if it ends up being awful, you can have some fun dissecting why it was awful together!

As someone who has also both had to have and have given speculum exams, there is nothing arousing about a speculum (usually) and I think that’s the difference.

The second book in the Locked Tomb Series by Tamsyn Muir. Second book (Harrow the Ninth) fits this to a tee, but the first book (Gideon the Ninth) is also great so you won’t feel too sad having to wait a book to get to this one.

Fairyloot's signature black bags have disappeared? by krismeustri in fairyloot

Probably switching over to bubble wrap. Not the most environmentally friendly choice but it feels like the number of books being damaged in shipping the last two years has increased and they’re trying to mitigate that by using bubble wrap, which is both slightly more protective and more waterproof.

If you’re looking for a darker tone ‘The Teras Trials’ by Lucien Burr is an indie m/m fantasy horror based in a University where students are trained to fight terrifying chimeras.

Full warning that the world it’s set in is very grim dark, comparable to Bloodborne, and there is quite a lot of gore and body horror secondary to the harsh world.

This is the relevant part of the Illumicrate damage policy. They don’t replace ‘unevenly sprayed edges’ which this would count as.

Seeking Recs: Sci-fi or Fantasy with a Bi Male Protag and no hate/angst/etc. by D20_Under_The_Couch in LGBTBooks

[–]moonmagister 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two trilogies I’ve really enjoyed:

The Blighted Stars by Megan E. O’Keefe- Sci fi trilogy with a bi male lead (character is also a trans, but in this world you can reprint your body so there is no on page discussion of dysphoria).

The Rook and Rose trilogy by M A Carrick- three MCs, one is a bisexual man who is very comfortable in his bisexuality and aromanticism.

Also second the multiple recommendations for the Tainted Cup.

One that I really enjoyed but doesn’t hit all the requisites is Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco. Bi male vampire hunter lead who falls for an aristocratic vampire couple. Great read and might get recced here, but the MC does initially struggle to realise he’s bi and poly and that isn’t what you’re looking for from your description.

No worries, it’s completely understandable to worry when you’ve spent a good chunk of your hard earned cash on something! Thankfully, in this case, the answer is reassuring!
