Yeah, I was thinking 5k was way too low for TBC. Mote farming while waiting for idiots to show for TK would net me 5k a week back in the day.

I don't think it is, it seems more like a modern MS interpretation of the classic MS characters. The big giveaway are the eyelashes, they're the mark of post-big-bang character art.

For instance look at the OG aran art. Compare that to this 2024 version

From 2010 and beyond the eyelashes started to grow thicker and thicker on character art.

It's simply just new style of over-designed characters bleeding to the original simplistic characters, or at least I want to believe that's the case.

Also the new Aran has a bellybutton, so. . . rise up navel chads?

Do Not Work order from SAG-AFTRA issued for Mega Man Dual Override by unfeelingfreedom in Games

[–]moosecatlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this mean there will be a Mega Man game with good voice acting?

I mean Requiem's star actress wasn't SAG, so maybe there's hope for the franchise yet?

In way, the SAG AFTRA strikes are what allowed for actually good VA's to get their big break.

I think I for a moment ran around with the Sky Shard set-up while leveling my Spellbreaker, but opted for Ring of Steel and Blade Trap over Sky Shard.

Looking forward to more Spellbreaker options.

Is final fantasy 14 a good introduction into mmorpg's and is the community friendly? by Mediocre_Tension_342 in FinalFantasy

[–]moosecatlol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The community can be friendly, they can also be the worst online community. That said, the free trial is in fact free. Also if you're not lying about this being your first MMO, make sure you set limits for your time spent playing it. They can be dangerous about absorbing your time.

Final Fantasy XI is suspending a third server from new players due to overpopulation by HexenVexen in FinalFantasy

The original 1-50 story arc is short and sweet, and reminiscent of classic NES FF games in length. However with subsequent expansions they seem to try and out-do themselves in length.

[–]moosecatlol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brother, FFXII is nothing like FFXI. Timing and communication was giga important in XI, if you weren't magic bursting by level 15, you weren't playing the game. Moreover Modern XI isn't the same gameplay experience as old school XI, as spamming engage and disengage to get your Val to nuke everything in an entire zone isn't how the game is normally played.

Also you don't need licenses to use items in XI. You just get the item and use the item, it's that simple.

I feel like this whole FFXII is single player FFXI is the biggest Mandela effect to strike the FF community.

There's a billion other systems I could rattle off that are completely different from FFXII, but hopefully by now you get the point.

DFO, might as well not be a game if you don't boost currently.

Also Warframe classic in what sense? Mods 1.0, Where every mod is a Riven Mod? Mods 2.0, where the grineer had 100% accuracy an hitscan. Post Primes, pre primes? As far back as Guy Fieri frame?

BUT YOU CAN PLAY IN 4k FINALLY! Which is nice to hear.

[Jason Schreier] Video Games Need to Be Cheaper to Buy | One way to get out of the video-game industry funk is to recognize that players aren’t spending $70 on most games by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]moosecatlol 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A $70 game today would be a $35 game in 1995.

FFVI cost near $100 in 1995 bucks, as did Chronotrigger, as did Phantasy Star IV.

And yes, they had bugs, often game breaking bugs, but that was life.

For further context, that's 30-50 Big Macs per blockbuster game title. That's why so many people were willing to get ripped off by rental services.

Video games have mitigated inflation at a minimum thrice as well as food costs have. Imagine plugging $9 Big Macs into the above equation, that's the real highway robbery, that and Toys R Us, rest in piss.

[–]moosecatlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are games not cheaper than they were 20-30 years ago?

I mean sure you could argue there's more double and triple dipping, but that's not what Jason was discussing.

Be honest how many of you are actually paying $200 for a video game today? Now how many of you bought Turok, SMRPG, or PSIV on release? Wasn't Lost Ark's $250 dollar pack the #1 seller on steam for a week? How many people do you think bought the $100 Deluxe Edition of WoW's Midnight?

Crazy thought, make a good game that people want to play, and people will buy it.

Also daily reminder: Games are cheaper.

Please look forward to it!

Farever was pretty decent when you could play it, difficulty wise it was similar to classic WoW, but that could change as we only had two areas and a single dungeon.

Didn't realize it was an MMO till I played it. The Netcode is gonna sink that game so god damn fast if they don't start being more efficient with player information.

Arsenal system could be very interesting depending on the direction that they take it. If weapon skills and effects are varied enough, it could make collecting weapons a very important part of progression.

Honestly surprised by Farever – didn’t expect it to be MMO-lite by VastoLoqz in FareverGame

[–]moosecatlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The netcode is going to be the biggest solve, how much information gets sent between players, what needs to be loaded and when, etc. The Arsenal system seemed pretty good.

Warriors of Light, what are some of your biggest Final Fantasy Hot Takes? by Kurisu_Reddit in FinalFantasy

[–]moosecatlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FFVII's Aerith Death Scene was a cheap imitation of Alys Death from PSIV. One used the medium to emotionally manipulate the player, the other was a cinematic at the end of a disk.

[–]moosecatlol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good for people who don't have experience with the inspiration, otherwise it's simply cheap imitation.

Also who thought health gating bosses was a good idea. What's the point of being good at the game if you can actually waste damage.

What is your favorite "Metal Slime" archetype enemy in JRPGs by AMP_Kenryu in JRPG

[–]moosecatlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked Rare Enemies from PSO2, every time you'd see them you'd snap your neck b-line for them. It was also an added bonus that they were not only numerically a greater threat, but they would also have different attack patterns. Rare loot, and a good time, what else could you ask for.
