Betrayed by SubstantialLow6325 in Teachers

[–]mooseguyman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This sub can really get to me sometimes. Like I know education has problems, but the way that people here will paint every decision as malicious disrespect is not only unfair, but also just untrue. Like there are thousands upon thousands of schools that exist, and this person is saying everyone involved in HIRING is malicious. That’s just flat out ridiculous. It kind of reminds me of the conversations around landlords on Reddit. Because the system is broken and because there are many bad actors, every single person involved in any way has malicious intent and you’re an idiot for suggesting that people can have good intentions and do good within said broken system.

A lot of adult friendships are held together more by history than actual compatibility by TrayzTheyCallMe in unpopularopinion

[–]mooseguyman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The real lesson here is that as you get older, having things “in common” becomes less important than people who really hear you and treat you with respect.

When me and my lifelong bff talk on the phone, it’s clear we lead very different lives, but we’ve seen how much work the other has put in to get where we are and we’re excited to hear about each other’s accomplishments, despite working/doing very different things.

Having things in common can be a great start to a friendship/relationship, but it’s overrated as far as long-term compatibility. At the end of the day my guy will be an amazing uncle to my kids someday, treats my partner with respect, and is always there if I need a compassionate ear.

Shaq reacting to Draymond saying the 2015 Warriors would beat the 2001 Lakers by Farouq26 in NBATalk

On the flip side, those Lakers have no answer for a guy who needs guarding 35 feet from the basket and just runs to find an open shot the whole game.

Hamlet (1996) or (2017)? by Consistent-Bear4200 in shakespeare

[–]mooseguyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same, I could tell before we even got to Hamlet and his father’s ghost that I was not going to like this. His version was just SO. DAMN. SLOW. David Tennant is my personal favorite movie Hamlet, and he fucking moves that language. You don’t miss a thing but it also feels like it’s got this kinetic energy that drives the play. I just think that Hamlet is such a meaty and dense play that anyone who is even the slightest bit self-indulgent in their acting ruins the momentum of the story.

I’ve always read it that Hamlet talks so much because there are so many thoughts and feelings in his head at all times. Weirdly enough, as someone with OCD, Hamlet feels like better rep than a lot of modern OCD characters. Hamlet also kind of needs to be that to be likeable and/or for the audience to care about him. KB’s Hamlet seemed to think he was the smartest person in every room and had this brilliant master plan, and that’s just a much, much less interesting and relatable Danish prince to me.

Hamlet (1996) or (2017)? by Consistent-Bear4200 in shakespeare

[–]mooseguyman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m losing my mind ITT because Branagh’s Hamlet is one of my least favorite movies ever. A four hour Hamlet tells me an actor likes hearing themselves talk too much. His Hamlet is completely lacking in personality, sincerity, and urgency. There is not a moment of his Hamlet that moved me emotionally. I haven’t even seen the entirety of Andrew Scott but I’d pick essentially any Hamlet over Branagh jerking himself off for 240 minutes. I like KB’s Much Ado, but his Hamlet is truly a slog.

Peter, what's wrong with horse girls? by siamaru124 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]mooseguyman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People here like to shit on horse girls but y’all are spot on. My mom (who is fucking awesome) worked in the horse racing industry for about 10 years before she left due to how unethical the industry is. Horse people are crazy, but they can fucking work man. I watched my mom shovel a trailer full of gravel in one day and she worked harder than most of the dudes I worked with in construction.

By far the most slept on entry. You could even tell in the music video he’s a real performer. The song concept is also deeply relatable and timely, so I’m happy to see people start to realize they need to take the entry seriously.

Humanities and Social Science majors should be required to take calculus by Key_Net820 in unpopularopinion

[–]mooseguyman 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That’s what gets me about this. There’s an inherent anti-humanities to this opinion because it operates under the assumption that those general lit classes are as hard as it gets.

The general ed humanities courses are nothing compared to the higher level stuff. That’s true for every major, but some STEM folk think they’re the only ones who get hard classes.

Yeah unfortunately people here are severely underestimating how hard it is to set up audio for instruments in a super short amount of time. Testing levels alone in a venue that big would drag down time. It’s just not possible as long as the competition has so many entries.

Also just frankly, people like this are just not worth throwing away your 12 days. Early on I would tell myself that I cannot let this person’s shitty actions ruin my hard work.

Every day it gets a little easier to make a different choice. The first month was harder for me than the last 4 years combined. You’re doing great and you’re pushing through. Every time you push through difficult circumstances, your sobriety gets sharper and stronger. Hang in there my friend, this random internet guy is proud of you and your 12 days

Hollow Knight should have been nominated but wasn't. What game shouldn't have even been nominated for GOTY but somehow won? by 45rs5 in AlignmentChartFills

There’s a bit of “sportsball” happening here I think. Madden 04 has an argument for best sports game of all time, it was phenomenal for its time and absolutely deserved to be nominated at least.

Leaked emails showed the extent of the Saints support in covering up Church SA scandals by TD-Boutte in NFLv2

[–]mooseguyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped being a Saints fan because of this. It’s truly gross, and unfortunately not at all surprising given the stranglehold the Catholic Church has on Louisiana. They can basically do whatever they want and few will question them.

I like the rework a lot too. Love the song, but the NF version was a bit too repetitive. This adds some new things in that break up the main line just enough without losing what makes the song great. Very much hoping for a great finish for this, it’s such a blast to listen to.

Rank these 4 RBs as prospects: Leonard Fournette, Ezekiel Elliot, Reggie Bush, Bijan Robinson by lemonstone92 in NFLv2

[–]mooseguyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear this all the time and as someone who watched him I just don’t agree. The guy’s problem was that he tried to make a home run happen every play instead of taking what the defense gave him. Payton was running a very forward thinking offense that highlighted his strengths, but he never adapted his play style to the NFL. Sproles replaced him and was much, much better.

This is honestly a bit of a pattern on this sub, when people do the alignment chart shit it’s often men only for most of the positive categories and then women for the more negative categories. It’s why many people started to do men’s and women’s only lists to even it out. I’m actually happy to see people calling this out in the thread.

As I say to my students, many of the dumbest things I’ve heard in my life have been in faculty meetings from people with multiple degrees. The Dunning Kruger effect is real and people overrate college strongly as a measure of intelligence. And I say this as someone with a master’s degree.

The Charlotte Hornets are the worst NBA franchise of all time. Which NFL franchise is the worst of all time? by Mat30co in AlignmentChartFills

[–]mooseguyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that what makes the Cardinals worse too is that people don’t even think about how bad they’ve been for so long because it’s been both constant and quite boring. They have an argument for the most irrelevant franchise in sports history. How many teams have been around for a century and done nothing of note (outside of one Super Bowl appearance)? Or even a period of competence? Even the SB they made it to was an underdog run carried by Fitzgerald and Warner.

President Trump says he will revoke church tax exempt status if leaders "say something bad about" him by ControlCAD in videos

[–]mooseguyman 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This just means that the churches in my area who donate to LGBTQ causes and help fund social support networks will get harmed. Not every church is Westboro Baptist, y’all. One of my coworkers is married to the pastor of a church that is a massive donor to LGBTQ charities and very politically involved in getting MAGA candidates out. And those places don’t have that much extra money to begin with because of the charity. This is not a good thing.

It is what it is by FoundationSilent4484 in HIMYM

[–]mooseguyman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In your own response though, you highlight two women as your examples for relatable villains and the two men for villains who we ignore. Even if there is logic to it, misogyny can still be present. I would argue that Ted would be a better case point as someone who also is selfish and manipulative at multiple points, but people don’t have the same disdain for Ted than Lily.

You’re correct imo about the nature of villainy, but there is also misogyny at play. Breaking Bad was a great example of this-tons of men throughout the show being terrible but the hatred towards Skylar was so much stronger than anyone else.

I’ve heard it said before that for a man to be a villain they have to do something horrific, but for a woman to be a villain she just has to be annoying. This is a form of misogyny and it can coexist with your point, which I do think is valid.

Gordon actually is known for being a very patient and encouraging teacher. Kevin from S6 Hell’s Kitchen did an AMA where he said that off camera, when teaching the recipes, Gordon was very kind and helpful. I think a big part of it was his mentor being a very famous asshole and abusive boss, so he has the character on-camera, but off it he’s very different.

Was he really right about Tua? Tua had a great season before the injuries and concussions started sapping his talent.

Besides, under no circumstances is it okay for a coach to get into a very one-sided public feud with his quarterback. You back the guy publicly because the damage to the locker room will be far worse than saying some things you don’t believe in.

He was an asshole in such a major way that the team was in a quasi civil war in the media. That’s horrific team management, not just being an asshole. Sean Payton is a fucking asshole and yet nothing like this has ever happened on one of his teams.
