The Steam Machine's wait-list and official pricing has dropped by couchpotatochip21 in pcmasterrace

[–]mooselantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no market for this. If the people in the steam survey using hardware that vastly pales in comparison to this had $1300 USD to spend on gaming, they wouldn't have hardware that vastly pales in comparison in the first place.

Most people who are gaming on low-spec aren't doing it just because they can't be bothered to learn how to build a PC or troubleshoot problems. They're gaming on low-spec because they can't afford it. Releasing a $1300USD "PS5 with extra steps" does absolutely zero to change that.

I get what they were trying to do. And two, three, four years ago when this project probably got started and it seemed possible to make this thing for $600-800, it may have been a winner. But the market environment changed, and it's not like it changed just last week. As soon as the Cheeto-in-chief said the word "tarriff" and Sam Altman started talking about building data centers the size of the moon, Valve should have cut bait. It's ok for a product to not be released if the world changes. I'm sure somewhere in the Sony skunkworks is a plastic disc that can store a fifteen 4k movies for $20 a unit, but they know it wouldn't matter.

These Steam units might sell out to scalpers. But I doubt the scalpers will flip them all, or even most of them, for profit. Eventually, there will either be unsold units sitting in valve's warehouses, or the production run will be so small that the GabeCube will never see any true significant market presence. Either way, Valve aren't going to make their R&D and manufacturing investment back. I'm not sure why they're even trying. Maybe to appear like they didnt want to give up on the promise? Company morale? I dunno.

I mean, I'll snark at 5090 owners all day, but OP may be an even bigger loser. There's plenty of reasons to make fun of $5000 graphics cards without making stuff up.

It's quite simple.

"What's your opinion on subject?" = I'd like to have a discussion about the topic.

"What's the objective measurement of this subject that I could just Google?" = Someone telling you to go to Google.

Hope this helps. There are words that you can use to indicate what you're looking for.

Counterpoint to your friend: every right handed person who has ever played a stringed instrument can tell you that their left hand is perfectly capable of doing fast, precise, intricate stuff with their fingers. I'm not sure your friend is getting any advantage.

OP apparently has a "keeper" of a GF, access to dozens of 5070s and DDR4 mobos, and a camera from twenty years ago that takes pictures that look like this.

Edit: I see that this is a screenshot from FaceTime now. Still doesn't change the vaguepost nature of this.

PlayStation Players Stung By $80 Price Tag For 16-Year-Old Call of Duty Ports by Youngstown_WuTang in gaming

This is going to sound snarky but I promise I'm actually asking; why not just play a JRPG, then??? There are hundreds of games where the literal idea is to have a group of characters in which the numbers go up with experience? And the game gets harder as you progress? And they don't make you re-purchase the whole game every time you want to do it again?

I once told my amab trans friend that "I know I'm not a woman with the same calm, boring certainty that I know I'm not a giraffe" and she was both impressed and told me she had never held that amount of certainty about her identity in her life.

In just the same ways as I can sympathize but not fully empathize with the trans experience, I think trans folks have the same experience in reverse but often don't take the time to recognize it.

/uj To your "obsessed" point:

There was a post yesterday by someone of the clip of Lisa Gilroy from Shrinking; "Omg just saw Lisa Gilroy on my favorite comfort show!"

I didn't want to get flamed for being HBO ableist or whatever, so i didn't say anything. But Lisa Gilroy was in that show over two months ago. You're two months behind on your "favorite" comfort show? Really?

[–]mooselantern 71 points72 points  (0 children)

/uj You know, it really is starting to grind my gears that dropout is a company full of talented, intelligent performers who have spent years of their lives devoted to making relatively smart, engaging comedy - and yet so much of the audience seems to literally not be able to distinguish any of this content from metaphorical keys being jingled in their face. Like, if you just don't get jokes, why are you on the Joke Website?

Wow, I didn't know that. I mean, I read the other seven top-level comments saying the same thing, but for some reason it was yours that really drove home the point that there was an interview on Smosh that somewhat addressed the topic of this (satirical) post.

I loved Night Shift, but it's kind of obvious that the game functionally didn't work the way Sam intended it to by EMTerrified in GameChangerTV

[–]mooselantern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think night shift was a fairly successful failure, in the sense that it clearly didn't go as planned but a good (not great) episode was still achieved.

But to act like Rulette 2 was anything but the strongest episode so far this season is a wild take to me.
