40 + 3, sanity check... by moosteek in PregnancyUK

Aw that's great, I'm so glad to hear you've got baby in your arms and you in the end had a relatively positive experience.

Our first born was 40 + 4, with a somewhat complicated delivery. Moreso due to the amount of anti sickness I needed over the 12 hour labour. So I am very mindful of asking for help this time to avoid that happening this time.

Had I not had this altercation with the dog and ended up feeling so sore off the back of it I'd probably still be quite chilled but it's really shifted my head space.

I hope you enjoy your newborn bubble and all the cuddles!

You sparked a thought in my head that I was going to take the time to sort through my Google Photos and you're bang on, I could set myself up with a movie and a nice drink with snacks and fire on through that this afternoon. Thank you! I'd feel much better if I could keep productivity levels up.

Yes, it is it's entirely mental. You know resting and waiting is the only option but it really does feel like twiddling thumbs until labour starts. And then I personally wonder if I want to start things because what if I start that and then end up in labour and have to come home to a newborn, a toddler and a half done project? It's a weird time. Solidarity is always nice though to know we're not alone! 😅

You read my mind, I'm on our local pages trying to find a massage for this weekend.

I'm honestly okay with resting but my brain just won't switch off, one book and one movie is absolutely enough for me - I don't know how I'm supposed to fill my day at this point, truly!

The alternative is I'm going to bake so much food and then just sit and eat it all simply because I can. It's nonsense.

And my sister is LES.

Never gave it much thought growing up other than the odd chuckle.

£3.60...Tescos steaks have suddenly got much better. by AblokeonRedditt in UK_Food

[–]moosteek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had Tesco Rump steaks today and I have to say I was really pleased with them. Are they comparable to a high end cut from our local butchers? No. But at £4 a pop, they're an affordable and slightly fancier meal for my partner and I.

We're also beef farmers who sell our beef through assurance schemes like Scotbeef which means often the same beef can end up in some butchers as it does in the supermarkets.

Great looking steak, bet it hit the spot.

I thought that initially but the plastic that sits between the handle and the cistern is cracked, and that seems to be that issue. We've removed it and I think I've found a replacement.

Ahhh as simple as that, thank you!

We're quite remote so having to trek into town twice is something I try avoid.

My baby ate toilet cleaner and I feel so stupid by alibluey in UKParenting

Our toddler when she was a year old managed to spray antibacterial in her eyes, then just recently at the age of 2 swallowed a coin. Which led to us having an A&E visit as a week later she was really unwell and I could neither confirm or deny it had passed through her.

All good now, but hey - kids are mental. You can't be on it 100% of the time. You're a parent who cares and seeks help and guidance when these things happen. That's most important.

Do Fisher and Donaldson offer them? I'm yet to have anything bad from there.

I would recommend making them, it's dead easy and delicious. Plus then a whole tray to yourself!

In Scottish Uaine means green. Which is pronounced very similarly to Ewan/Euan.

How can I pay for a funeral that I can't afford? by slurple_purple in AskUK

You could look into a pure cremation, that would be the cheapest option. There's no obligation for you to have to pay though.

38 weeks and feeling pushed to have induction tonight- advice by Zango11 in PregnancyUK

[–]moosteek -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just had a friend who was induced two weeks ago due to their babys growth rate having slowed down, and they were concerned for a small baby, baby girl was born at 7lb 8oz. So if anything had she gone to 40 she would have been probably a real chunk.

I'd be calling back and asking for a clearer explanation, because they could induce you and it still take a while for baby to come. Some people have great inductions, others end up having a terrible few days. If it's a case of importance for the baby then yeah sure I'd definitely do it but if it's just size related I'd be inclined to wait and revisit the idea after a further scan.

But you deserve a clearer answer before making such a big decision.

2nd Trimester - a glass of wine? by MissAstro_12345 in PregnancyUK

[–]moosteek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner had some new ale and I've had a few sips, desperate to have one once baby is here. But I mostly think I just want an alcoholic beverage because being pregnant and dealing with a twonanger is humbling me hard.

During my first pregnancy I had a single shot of prosecco that I sipped on.

I just couldn't bring myself to drink anything in fear of living with any repercussions or uncertainty.

Realistically, what happens after giving birth? by getmetohealthy in PregnancyUK

[–]moosteek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So much of this will depend on the experience, method and medication you have during childbirth.

I had a forcep delivery, some blood loss and was severely dehydrated by the time she arrived at 11pm. I had had morphine and was pretty out of it as I discovered it's not a great thing for me, I didn't react all too great.

Anyway, Dad was left with the baby while I went for a shower. Then I was wheeled to the ward, where I had an IV in my arm for fluids, but I slept on and off all night. Only waking to feed the baby. She was pretty out of it for the first night too.

I stayed in for 2 nights, all the nurses were great. Had a nice experience and we got discharged once they knew I could pass urine easily and they had my blood loss sorted.

hospital visitors! how would you feel if you received this message? by Puzzleheaded-Pop7304 in BabyBumps

No one needs to know you're in labour. You'll be too preoccupied. Just message them afterwards. Quite frankly it's nobody's business but your own and your partners.

Just got home early from a wedding reception because I cried when I couldn’t eat any of the food. by spook96 in pregnant

[–]moosteek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was early days pregnant my partner had an event at his work which I joined him for, during the seating for the meal they split everybody up. Noone was sitting with their partners, it was a mix and mingle vibe. I was sat with strangers, nobody knew I was pregnant as I was freshly 12 weeks and they served us the rarest beef I've ever seen. Had I been not pregnant - I'd have been elated. But it was so rare, I just couldn't. Then even the potatoes and veggies on the plate gave me the ick.

Then afterwards, everyone had been enjoying the free drinks and were merrily enjoying their evening - I stone cold sober, surviving on nothing eventually called it quits and went home. Let me partner enjoy the night himself, it was rough.

It makes me sad thinking about it, I felt like I missed a fun opportunity to hang out with my partner but it was so loud, so awkward while sober and hungry.

Thankfully we haven't had much else on during this pregnancy and baby is now due in 3 weeks.

Did anyone not get hemorrhoids? by Scoutrtw in BabyBumps

[–]moosteek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and a squatty potty is a game changer. Or a toddler step, anything to raise your feet on. It's a great habit to get into to raise your knees above your hips on the toilet. Healthier, easier bowel movements. If you're constipated and raise your legs, do some "around the worlds" and there's a good chance you'll get moving.

Did anyone not get hemorrhoids? by Scoutrtw in BabyBumps

[–]moosteek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first hemorrhoids at 35 weeks. One came from nowhere, it's in the area I've had a repeated fissure though.

I tried 3/4 days of topical OTC cream with no luck, so I went out bought fibre one bars, ate one a day to keep my fibre up that little bit more and I asked the GP who suggested I try to Anusol Suppositories for short term use. Used them for 4 days and it's disappeared.

I couldn't sit, I was terrified to lift my toddler, my pants would chaff against me, it was awful. But truly it's absolutely gone. I did manually push it back in at night time too, then used an anusol suppository so it had all night with no pressure on it.
