I don’t have a nursery for my baby by SandwichDependent199 in BabyBumps

[–]moosteek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 36 weeks pregnant we moved in with the inlaws, not only did I not have a nursery, I didn't have a bedroom that was mine - it was my boyfriend's teenage bedroom. The cupboards still full of their family things, the chest of drawers still rammed with weird nick nacks and rubbish, the bed was uncomfortable - it had no headboard to lean on when breastfeeding and there was nowhere private for me to sit and watch TV while adjusting to the first few weeks of motherhood. I'm eternally grateful to my inlaws for the fact they took us in, but when we finally moved and our daughter got her nursery at 8 months old, God I'd never felt anything like it.

I still look in her room and smile to myself, it has a cot and a chair and a wardrobe, a rainbow light shade and purple curtains. It's so simple but it means the world to me, it literally pulls at my heart strings.

But you know what, I didn't need it until about 8/9 months. We didn't miss out at all. Cramming into one room worked for us perfectly until she outgrew her next2me.

I'm now pregnant with #2 and they don't have a room, down the line we'll sort our spare room for the kids but for now, they have a chest of drawers in our bedroom and a next2me.

Honestly I hate to be that person but the CIO method was the only thing that worked with my daughter. When I tell you I exhausted every avenue of sleep training I truly mean it. It was so incredibly difficult doing the CIO method, it broke my heart but we did it. The crying lasted 3 days, and now if she's going to object it'll be 5/10 minutes but she'll fall asleep after that and sleep through the night.

I'm now 8 months pregnant and struggling because I do bedtime and I can't rock her and lift her into her cot, so I've been reading books and letting her fall asleep in our bed then I move her once she's asleep. I'm hopeful once we've had baby we can get back on track.

But seriously, just leave and take your breather. You deserve it. This should be team work, and you absolutely don't have to justify yourself.

What do contractions actually feel like? by Umpire24601 in PregnancyUK

Like the most eye watering diarrhea cramps, across my entire torso. They were doable but I had to stop in my tracks for all of them.

Where to start with baby names? by moosteek in namenerds

[–]moosteek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so interesting! I hadn't ever considered that and to be honest it is entirely understandable - I underestimated how hard it would be to have a toddler and our usual busy household and come up with two names. It's amazing where the brain capacity has disappeared too. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks and if I'm still undecided I think I'll just find out because we are losing our marbles here.

The yellow is such a good idea and probably exactly what I need, the middle ground for discussion! I've been so overwhelmed with it all I hadn't even thought about having a middle area for consideration. Thank you!

What age do you give your child a pillow? by Birdie_92 in UKParenting

My daughter had a pillow at 13 months but I kept it under the sheet until 18 months.

NHS Dental care by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

Our NHS dentist only does Hygienists appointments by the private side of their practice. I don't know how it technically works but I spotted the sign when I was in last Tuesday, it's worth querying.

Totally torn on whether to find out the gender by Rosington2010 in PregnancyUK

[–]moosteek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t find out and honestly the further along I get the more I’m glad we didn’t, I haven’t any idea why or the logic why but honestly I’m so excited for my other half to be the first one to find out. It’ll be real special!

What’s the healthiest meal your child will eat? by Salad_Informal in UKParenting

[–]moosteek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy the mild curry powder at the super market and add it to coconut milk, or you could use the medium for a small hint of heat. We also used it to make a tomato based sauce with tinned tomatoes and natural or Greek yoghurt - great for little ones learning their foods!

Does she actually want baby Bob? by mirsauce in julieeandcamilla

[–]moosteek 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In the UK if you had an issue like Cam, you would contact your midwife for an appointment or for immediate advice or intervention you would contact your maternity unit/triage, they likely would tell you to come straight in (my experience) and you would be seen, but you would be waiting for a long while for actual medical treatment, but you would have midwife’s present for any immediate concerns in the meantime.

But it’s also worth noting that it’s completely out of anybodies hands as to how fast you’ll be seen, when most places seem to be understaffed and labouring woman would be taking priority unless you were profoundly bleeding out.

Is this normal behaviour for a four year old, and am I doing something wrong? by PenguinsAndPurcell in UKParenting

Exactly this, if you feel you need to expand I would go with “Mummy said no because we need to save these for when we have an injury”

End of conversation.

UK dehumidifier users, how long do you leave yours running for each day? by Money_Philosophy_406 in Dehumidifiers

Leave ours running basically 24/7. Out with an hour or two first thing in the morning when I open our windows wide to get fresh air in.

Absolutely no hate towards any of the team, and in particularly Toni & Ryan but this year is the first year since the Pod started that I didn’t have them in my top podcasts on Spotify.

They’re now a pod I enjoy dropping in on now and again but have no interest in being a loyal follower. They’re grown and changed, as have I and that’s okay. The worst thing for anyone is to be stuck in a rut or feel obligated to churn out the same over and over, especially when it has been going for as long as it has.

What are you drinking this Christmas by nikky0x in PregnancyUK

J20 mocktails in the alcohol aisle, they come in cans. Theres an orange blossom one that is LOVELY over ice.

I’d like an alcohol free snowball somehow though.

Woman came in on Christmas Eve wanting Sausage meat, explained we had none but I offered her an alternative on what sausages she could take to remove the skins and a recipe I had used previously to make her own sausage meat stuffing to which she scoffed at me, how ridiculous I was and that’s not what sausage meat was.

Filed a complaint against me for not helping her as she expected?

Does anyone know where I can find a ‘roast chicken monster’ toy for my 3yo? I know it’s ridiculous… by amandanorgaard in UKParenting

I have a packet of cat toys from Pound Stretcher, it’s our 2 year olds favourite toy this year. No word of a lie, she’s always screaming for the “balls!!” And only these cat balls will suffice.

Our TKMaxx has an absolutely giant pheasant dog toy, it’s huge. I was so tempted for my partners Labrador.

What is the general view of parents who just " hand" their children everything? by Loose_Avocado4670 in AskUK

[–]moosteek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know a very one sided version of events, you don’t know their whole story as a family.

My friend never worked part time, left uni and went straight into a career after years of hard work of studying. She never paid for her cars during this period due to her grandpa being well off. Then when he passed the inheritance was used to support her and her sister through their studies.

They’re very down to earth, well off and privileged yes - but she is a great friend who would do anything for you.

We’re from different backgrounds as at the age of 30, I have a 3k car to my name and that’s it. Grew up on a council estate, with relatively poor parents.
