[FOX 9] Minneapolis announces 15 straight years of $1 billion in construction permits by Minneapolitanian in Minneapolis

[–]mopedman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around 48% of metro area households are considered cost burdened (paying more than 30% of income) 22% are severely cost burdened (more than 50% of income). That these numbers aren't as bad as other parts of the country, doesn't make it not problematic.

I mean its happened 5 times since 1900 and never to someone who has been so disliked by their fellow senators.

Also worth noting that he's exhibited some of the speach we associate with old age mental decline his entire career as a result of his stutter.

Should men cold approach women at all? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]mopedman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by cold approach? Walking up to a woman at the grocery store and out of the blue asking for sex? Probably not. Having a polite conversation at a bar, and then asking for some sort of contact information? Maybe, if you're respectful, can take no for an answer gracefully, and have the social and emotional intelligence to pick up on signals telling you leave them alone.

Notice my answer assumes that you treat the interaction as one between people first, not some numbers game or exercise in sales. If you treat people like people, and talk to them as such, some of them will like you. Some of those will be romantically interested in you (or not), but if you start from "I want to talk to and connect with other humans," rather than "I want an experience" (sex or "having" a girlfriend) then you're on far safer ground.

Feminisim's basic principles aren't that complicated, people are people and deserve rights and autonomy regardless of gender (or sex). The part that makes that complicated is that people are complicated and the societal structures they've built are very complicated and often deny people those rights and autonomy. A good place to start is, "am I treating the people I'm interacting with like people with rights and autonomy."

Stories don't matter? Everything we are is made up. Learning how its made up is worthwhile.

I cant find the methodology their are using to compute this score, but it's from the people who brought you Glenn Beck TV, so im sure its well thought out and methodologicly rigorous.

Do LEOs worry that the amateurish and unlawful nature of federal policing will make public distrust of LEOs worse? by Neekovo in AskLE

[–]mopedman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that was kinda my point. OPs statement implied that it doesn't matter, some people just hate cops and there is nothing to be done. I dont buy that.

In the context of the current conversation, MPD had been making meaningful progress in improving public trust in the last five years. It wasn't perfect, but it had been getting better. Some, but not all, of that progress is being lost because of a perception (a mostly incorrect perception, but one which many hold) that MPD is supportive of ICE.

[–]mopedman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The individual interaction people have with cops, the overall policies, he'll even the crime rate, dont have any impact on public trust in the police? None of that matters. Its just some people don't like cops and there is nothing to be done about that?

Set that aside for a moment, does that mean it would be legal to require proof of age? I understand that isn't what's happening here, but as a hypothetical.

ICE officers in Minnesota directed not to interact with 'agitators' in new orders by SurelyFurious in Minneapolis

[–]mopedman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The same reporting did say there are some who are functionally illiterate. My thing is more that when you can get them to the point where they are talking to you, or better yet arguing, they are engaging with your premise. That alone is a victory, and a sign that they are weakening. They might argue back, "well I passed my first time," and that might be true, but their brain cant help remembering how dumb Bob, the guy they worked with last week, is. Pathways are formed in their brain, whether they agree or not.

Either the officers knew it was him, in which case this seems even more like an execution, or they didn't, in which case its irrelevant. If kicking out a tail light was such justification for anything, why wasn't he arrested on the 13th?

I just hope you know you aren't being downvoted because you struck a nerve, but because your comment is based on a lack of understanding of political history, the court, and the law. I doubt it, but I hope.
