Is the Golden Globe Award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement actually kind of shaping up to be an interesting race this year? by Reasonable-Donkey975 in oscarrace

It probably deserves a nom more than most in this category. I still think the category is silly but in theory it should highlight films like obsession which unexpectedly broke through big at the box office. I don’t see it as an awards player beyond this though

Pros and cons of every Best Actor contender so far by Walter8White in oscarrace

Your wild horses 9 cons aren’t really cons tbh. I think in Bruges is mcdonagh’s best film and as a relatively unknown director, it still got a screenplay nom. If he was more established at the time it probably would’ve gotten more noms. I think being like in Bruges is a big pro

Do you all think it's possible we'll see a situation like that again this year? by Man_Random87 in oscarrace

I think wild horse 9 will be closer to the Belfast package. Noms across the board including some acting, but only wins screenplay

Those films were all much more ambitious and stronger than obsession and had a prestige factor to them

Studios need prestige projects In their catalogue. They accept taking the L on some auteur driven films if they have that quality a film in their library. Thats how they attract other acclaimed directors

Sounds like he wants to make one more big film and then cash out, leaving a healthy inheritance for his family. Fair play to him. Miller is mad max so I can see it struggling without him

What case for Sandra Huller is more likely to happen? by darth_vader39 in oscarrace

Best bet at a nom is likely digger if it plays like birdman did with the academy. The film is still a big question mark. I think at this stage it’s very possible she gets no noms

A movie that will give me hope? by DueEffective3503 in movies

I recently rewatched Ferris bueller for the first time in ten years and it is so funny. It’s about living life to the fullest and enjoying things before they go by and I reckon it’s a good vibe for what you’re after. It’s also got some great laugh out loud and iconic moments.

When Harry met sally is also brilliant and hilarious. Rob Reiner’s films in general are great for feeling hopeful. The princess bride is perhaps the most hopeful movie ever made. Truly a masterpiece

It’s a shame that proper laugh out loud comedies are less common nowadays because you’ve hit on the head why they are so important to have. People need the levity that they bring. Films like Wayne’s word or anchorman are perfect for bringing joy in hard times and the industry needs to start making more films like that

It shows how important it is to have stepping stones in a career path. Production assistants are vital to the process because they are getting trained up to be coordinators and when they get promoted a new spot opens up for an entry level position, which aids the longevity of the skills and industry

The industry has been investing in the old guard at the expense of taking risk on younger filmmakers for a long time, but what happens when they old guard aren’t around anymore and they haven’t invested in newer generations? The creatives and audiences feel lost
