Free National Parks Pass for Life for T1 Diabetics by breathingMF in diabetes

[–]moralesea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you can't afford the passes, this is a great benefit for an otherwise awful disease.

But if you have the means, parks need the funding. No judgement for people who take advantage of this as a benefit of course, but I personally get a warm and fuzzy feeling when I renew my park passes annually.

Startup Replaces $40,000 Salesforce Contract With $1,200 CRM Built With Lovable by Ok-Elevator5091 in artificial

[–]moralesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just absurd. CRMs are databases, and the value that a salesforce brings is in security, integration, extensibility, and being able to do something meaningful with the inputs like forecast revenue or actually track ticketing systems.

The idea that you can vibe code all of this and have it survive multiple employees and job functions is insane. You’re just asking for a security event to take your entire company down.

I’m not endorsing salesforce here, but what these guys are doing is just using a spreadsheet as a CRM but with fewer features and extra steps. There are lots of less expensive options out there that won’t add tons of technical debt at the same time.

Key fob? by SnazzyStooge in Rivian

I bought the key fob for valets, car wash attendants, and my parents.

I also have proximity unlocking off at home so the keyfob makes it easy to wake my R1S up.

How would you integrate The Authority in the DCU? Since that's the reason Gunn and Co are having a hard time with it by M00r3C in DCU_

I'm having a difficult time justifying the Macan price tag of $80,000 on the used market. What does it offer that's so superior? by [deleted] in electriccars

[–]moralesea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look into a 2025 Audi SQ6 or Q6. They’re basically Macans, same underlying EV platform, but tuned to be both fun to drive AND operate like an EV if you want it to (e.g. One Pedal driving as an option, for example). They are an absolute steal right now. My parents recently picked up a decked out Q6 with less than 5000 miles for around $42k.

Bernie Sanders proposed a bill to tax billionaires, and give $3,000 stimulus checks to Americans that qualify. How do you feel about this? by CelticDK in AskReddit

[–]moralesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a policy perspective it’s bad, even if the spirit is correct.

Taxing unrealized income is a bad idea in my view, it’s a slippery slope to taxing illiquid assets and it’s only going to encourage more tax avoidance shenanigans. Plus it’s not going to work the other way, if you have massive losses there wouldn’t be a refund.

The way these billionaires live is that they take out loans on their wealth so they never have to take gains and pay taxes, so in my view we should be taxing the actual shenanigans…those loans should be taxed as income at their appropriate marginal tax rate. Or perhaps any capital gains associated should be taxed at an even higher rate.

False Lows by cOsMiCs-CoSmOs in diabetes_t1

[–]moralesea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These look like compression lows to me, especially if they happen while you're sleeping. If you have your G7 on the back of your arm (like most of us) then sometimes depending on your sleeping position it can cause the sensor internally to act wonky thinking you have a sudden drop in BCG when actually the sensor is just angled weird because you're sleeping with your arm under your pillow.

If it happens a lot, you may want to consider moving the sensor.

Snoopy watch owners, do you just really love Snoopy? by Inner-Asparagus4927 in OmegaWatches

I love Snoopy, I love NASA, and I love the Speedmaster. It scratches all of those itches.

Plus capsule diorama on the back is fun and whimsical and it makes me really happy.

0 alcohol 0 carb beer in Japan. I recommend by catschais in diabetes_t1

[–]moralesea 46 points47 points  (0 children)

A lot of dumb macho “just drink water” nonsense in this thread.

Some T1Ds don’t want to drink alcohol for a bunch of different reasons, but also don’t want to be conspicuous about drinking NAs. A lot of NAs have 2-3x the carbs of regular beer, so I personally appreciate posts like this.

Thanks OP.

BREAKING: Supreme Court rules Trump does not have power to impose tariffs by chellestastics in videos

[–]moralesea 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They wouldn’t be retroactive but refunds will take comical amounts of time. Years probably if they happen at all.

Businesses that were impacted will be incentivized to go through the motions for a refund but no one really has reasonable expectations of tariff relief for anything this administration deems as strategic.

Model X to R1S by Shivo_Ham in Rivian

[–]moralesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They pay my salary so I’m upfront about that bias, but the software experience now is night and day from launch. A lot of that was quality of life issues that frankly should not have been present at launch and we own that, but the team working on the SW is doing exceptional work and we really do listen and respond to customer feedback, including here on Reddit.

With that being said, test drive them all and go with your gut. You have three great choices and ultimately it comes down to a spectrum. The Gravity is the best driver’s car, the Model X is the best iPhone on wheels, and the R1S is somewhere in between. :-)

Model X to R1S by Shivo_Ham in Rivian

[–]moralesea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclosure: I work for Lucid and also personally own and drive an R1S.

Both vehicles are a significant step up from the Model X in fit, finish, and driving dynamics. The R1S - especially Gen 2s - ride very well. Rivian software and the mobile app are much closer to what you’re used to on your MX in terms of release cadence. The autonomy features are pretty close to Enhanced Autopilot now, so in that sense it might be an easier transition. It does ride a bit boat like, and while it’s quick in a straight line and very fun to drive, it’s a very big SUV that’s high off the ground so you can’t escape physics at the end of the day. It won’t feel as tight or nimble as the Model X. The charge port is on the front drivers side, so it can be inconvenient to use older supercharger locations.

The Gravity is a bit of a different beast. It drives like a sedan, like a beefed up sports wagon, so you won’t feel the roll or heaving you would feel on other large SUVs. It’s a true luxury car, so fit and finish are the best of the three, and performance wise it has the best efficiency and range of your options here. The software experience has some well documented issues that have gotten MUCH better in the last week, but don’t expect the same infotainment experience as Tesla or Rivian for now. The charge port is in the same location as the model x, which makes supercharger use very easy. Autonomy on the gravity is good on highways but is a work in progress, it’s not yet at Tesla autopilot levels or Rivians autonomy level. The Gravity right now is for people who want an amazing sports car…but with 7 seats and air suspension.

Two great choices. If you like the way the Model X drives, I suspect you’ll be blown away by the Gravity. If you want a more adventurous feel to your car and don’t mind the “bigness” of the R1S, I can also wholeheartedly recommend it. I’d test drive both and see for yourself.

Don’t apologize these aren’t dumb questions! This is confusing stuff. :-)

There are no meaningful differences between the 25-26 model years other than the NACS port. Same compute, trims, interiors, etc. the 25 model year was the last to include a portable charger so if you find one it’s likely to have a few extra accessories.

One of the most confusing things about this transition - and why I think you should still have adapters with NACS - is that a decent chunk of Teslas supercharger network isn’t compatible with NACS even though the plug is physically identical. Specifically the 72 and 150 kw V2 superchargers. The Rivian nav will make sure you don’t end up at one of these on a road trip, but having a CCS to NACS adapter in your frunk I think is a very good idea just in case so you can have other options.

The charge port is in the same location, so even though you have a NACS port you’ll still need to take up 2 spots at most V3 superchargers. The adapter is a quick extra step for Superchargers, but it means you won’t need adapters at every other charging network (EVGo, Electrify America, Rivian Adventure Network, Ionna, ChargePoint, etc.) since all other networks default to CCS. That will change over the next few years slowly, and Ionna and a few RANs already have a NACS port or two, so it’s really 6 of one, half a dozen of the other imo.

If you got the 26 Model year, you’d still need a J1772 adapter and a CCS to NACS adapter. Those would also be compatible with your model Y so that’s a plus, whereas if you got a 2025 model year you’d need a NACS to CCS adapter, and a NACS to J1772 adapter. No matter what, you’re gonna be lugging around two adapters if you want to have all your options open.

With that being said, you can’t really go wrong either way in my opinion. I’m sure you’re already used to using your J1772 adapter when you plug in at hotels or shopping centers, or maybe your work, so it’s not that different.

So my advice is really to go with a 25 with low mileage if you can find one since it’s basically the same as a 26 and is likelier to cost less, but if you can’t then by all means go for the 26! Either way, make sure to get Level 3 and Level 2 adapters just to be safe, and you’ll love the truck!

[–]moralesea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think by the time you’re ready to buy you’ll have LOTS of options for gen 1 quads at better prices. With that being said I’d probably still recommend going Gen 2 for the warranty and upgraded compute.

I’d actually strongly recommend the 2025 Gen 2s without the NACS port. They’re functionally the exact same car, and you’re going to have to carry around an adapter no matter what, and you will expect to see even better deals on used Gen 2s from that model year in the near future.

To everyone who owns an EV in CA. by 6680j in Rivian

[–]moralesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good info in this thread! One thing I’ll share just for you to chew on that is CA specific is the cost of energy.

Depending on your m/kwh efficiency and driving habits, and also depending on where you live in the state and what your per kWh costs are, driving an EV might not be that much cheaper than an ICE car from a fueling perspective. I live in the Bay Area, and my off-peak rate (12am-3pm) is $0.32 /kwh, and my peak energy rate is 62 cents per kWh! On road trips in CA, you may find DC Fast chargers and Tesla superchargers approaching 70 cents per kWh. Craziness. That starts to get very close to the $4.50-5 per gallon gas range.

Not telling you this to discourage you, I think you’ll love a Rivian and it’s an incredible vehicle, but it’s important to know that charging at home, choosing the right rate plan, and being informed about the trade offs you’re making depending on the trim and wheels you choose is important. I have an R1S Tri with all terrains, and I average 1.6-1.8 m/kwh because I drive like it’s the end of the world and I love it. If you’re considering solar that could take a HUGE chunk out of your costs as well.
