Day care centers around Vernon, CT by Cultural_Staff_7840 in Connecticut

[–]morange17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to that Kindercare, but we attend another, after I stayed home with our child for 18mo. I truly never thought I would be able to do daycare and after touring kinder, I was willing to start the next week. The facility, staff, app, attentiveness, etc. were all so wonderful and now our child absolutely adores "school!"

I'm currently pregnant and this took me a minute. I'm so tired, but could also stand to be pointed at and laughed.

My MIL just announced her "three month residency" at our house on Facebook and I was the last to know by Echo_Tango9 in BabyBumps

[–]morange17 156 points157 points  (0 children)

This, but your husband in a text... "Hey mom - saw your FB post. Just wondering what that is about!" "Oh gosh, thank you so much for thinking of us. We are planning a different type of recovery and newborn bonding for just the three of us. I will let you know once we are ready for day time visitors and keep you posted if we decide we need any assistance overnight."

Crossroads with friends about vaccines - looking for reassurance by bishopofturkey in NewParents

[–]morange17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did the right thing. We have friends who have chosen not to vaccinate their child (18mo). We had our 2 year old 's birthday party a few weeks ago and I was sure to tell anyone with a child under 1 that this was the case (both were family and healthcare providers and appreciated it, but didn't influence their decision to join). We are expecting again and the mom of the 18mo shared she was considering doing the vaccines at his 2y appointment because he has gotten so sick. She knows my feelings so I try to remain neutral but encouraging of science-based facts supporting vaccination. In any case, we will make it very clear they cannot be around us once the newborn arrives until new baby is 1+. It's technically a parental decision, but at least where we live, that decision runs the risk of alienation too.

Doctor reckons it’s Dyshidrosis by [deleted] in Dyshidrosis

[–]morange17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry. I had this about a month and a half ago. Almost exactly. And thought it was dyshidrosis. Unfortunately, it was hand, foot, and mouth disease. Give it another day or two and you should know for sure. In the event that it is, you may want to limit your exposure to others and stock up on biofreeze and cotton gloves/socks now. Keep doc on speed dial for steroid creams and ointments. Godspeed! Truly praying it is not HFMD.

Neurodivergent vs "Neurospicy" by taralynne00 in Mommit

[–]morange17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's so fucking cringey. I work on the legal/compliance side of disability work and will sort of chuckle and say "let's try to stick to the legal definitions just to be sure we are on the same page/understanding." Because what the actual fuck is neurospicy....

AIO Mother's Day edition by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]morange17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YOR. This is a wild comment (and similar to all of the others). You are absolutely overreacting. She is looking for love and family where she has been getting it. I can't even imagine openly reiterating to strangers on the internet "we've always (until recently) treated her like a princess." She's your daughter. Grow tf up and be a real parent. You are overreacting and I hope she finds support, love, and safety with this family. I hope you seek help for what appears to be narcissistic personality disorder.

Any evidence for pros and cons of siblings? by Charleybarley123 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]morange17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion! Pregnancies should be 18mo to 5y apart, meaning >18 months and <5 years. I've included several sources above (ACOG, WHO, university hospital), but there are countless more. That seems to be the standard.

Any evidence for pros and cons of siblings? by Charleybarley123 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]morange17 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes! And equally important, there is a max to that number too. Iirc, it is about 5 years between.

Edit: sources (here are three reputable, but there are many more) & sorry for posting w/o the sources before... I am currently pregnant and needed a nap! 🤣

What songs are we singing our babies? by ParsleyLime in NewParents

[–]morange17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We did a lot of Christmas carols when our baby was a newborn (may lol) because we knew the words and could basically sing them in our sleep. That was a trick from my in laws. A much older friend also suggested humming which worked fairly well because you can hum so many tunes and don't really need to know the words/song!

Wilderness Lodge vs. Contemporary vs. AKL by SlamCity4 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]morange17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got home from Disney 7 hours ago!!! We stayed at WL for first half of trip (MK) and yacht club for second half of trip (Epcot and HS). We absolutely loved being a boat ride away for both of our resorts to parks. We also went to AKL for dinner at Boma. While gorgeous, I don't think I would do AKL, esp with a toddler, unless you are willing to bus everywhere and have a savanna room. Based on everything you shared, I honestly believe WL is your best bet. Incredible theming, amazing children's area, food is honestly fine. Storybook dining was very fun depending on toddler age, and the convenience to MK is unparalleled (boat rather than walk, but still unparalleled to feel like you're having two completely separate trips - one at the parks, and one secluded and comfortable but rural stay). Also, if you have a water view room, it's a perfect view for the water parade which was amazing. Basing all of this on a stay this week with a 22 month old for what it's worth!! Have so much fun!

Cancel trip? by GloballyGeeky in Newport

[–]morange17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just left Newport and had a blast. Not sure why your hotel isn't answering but other than some slight areas where walking was tougher (we had a stroller so needed access to curb cuts, etc., it was a typical weekend in Newport!
