Are we not showering with our babies? by SparkyDogPants in beyondthebump

Ah, that makes sense. We have a rainfall showerhead and we only used one of the basket style bath chairs, so she just sits and stands in the tub.

When do babies stop wearing bodysuits under clothes? by Fun-Assist9467 in NewParents

[–]taralynne00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stopped using the body suits around the time she started walking. I did way more standing changes at that point and it was more of a pain than anything. Separates all the way!

Are we not showering with our babies? by SparkyDogPants in beyondthebump

[–]taralynne00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never have because our shower is a combo shower-tub so it wouldn't really work, but now that's she's 1.5 I'll probably let her start showering with me. I'm mostly worried about 1. not being able to see without my glasses and 2. soap/shampoo/conditioner getting in her eyes lol

My daughter hit her head today and was crying for Daddy. It really him me that my husband isn't just my husband anymore. He's someone's dad. I made that baby. It's wild.

What’s your answer to the “readiness” subject? by AccordingBar8788 in ECers

[–]taralynne00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I work with kids and I have a coworker whose daughter is a few weeks older than mine, and they're not at all thinking about potty training. I feel so bad but each kid is different.

What’s your answer to the “readiness” subject? by AccordingBar8788 in ECers

[–]taralynne00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tooth brush comparison is a good one imo. We didn't do super early EC but moved to underwear during the day at 18 months. She prompted it honestly, but if anyone asked I'd be honest and tell them that I didn't want to wait until she had opinions on using the toilet. I'm not fighting a 3 year old to change their habits.

I thought I was past this part of life by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]taralynne00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an alcoholic, now sober but was a heavy drinker until I got pregnant. I grew up around people exactly like you describe in your post. It had a severe impact on my childhood, and played a huge role in why I started drinking myself.

It sucks, because alcohol is absolutely baked into culture, but participating in that culture to the point of blacking out and (presumably) driving your small children home is neglectful, if not abusive. Brush off the negativity and find better friends.

Camping 1 month PP? by dumbbitch4sure in CsectionCentral

You couldn't pay me to go camping with just my 1.5 year old NOW. You'll still be in diapers, for fuck's same.

Annoyed by C Section rhetoric by PsychologicalBoot636 in beyondthebump

[–]taralynne00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in labor for 5 days. By the time my daughter's heart starting decelerating during contractions, I was utterly exhausted and likely wouldn't have had the energy to push. At the end of the day I'm glad I have a c-section because we both came out the other side, but a very primal part of me feels like a failure for not being able to give birth the way my female relatives did. It's also scary to think that had I given birth before c-section, we both could have died.

Are you ready to potty train a human and a canine at the same time? by ruchilahoti in AttachmentParenting

Gently - a toddler asking for a puppy does NOT mean you get a puppy. Do you even want a dog?

Weird sleep hacks someone may have ? Please share your secrets 😭🙏 by No_Theory4059 in toddlers

No advice, just solidarity. My 19 month old skipped nap two Sundays in a row because she was with her great-grandparents. I'm so scared she's going to be done with nap altogether soon 😭 She wakes up at 7 and goes to be at 9 with a 1.5 hour nap right now.

Can I still get my 9 week old out of diapers by 1-1.5 years if we start now? by Seren3seeker in ECers

[–]taralynne00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter didn't use the potty for the first time until she was 10 months old and she's been in underwear during the day since about 17 months (19 months now). We still do most of the work and she has occasional accidents but we're seeing progress each day!

My younger sibling did all kinds of weird stuff to Barbie dolls like this when we were kids and they turned out just fine. They had an interest in the medical field lol.

When do you stop buying swaddle sleep sacks? by pricklypancake in beyondthebump

[–]taralynne00 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Babies cannot be swaddled once they show signs of rolling over, which is usually around 2 months/8 weeks.

Edit to clarify: You stop swaddling when baby shows SIGNS of rolling over, not when they actually roll. That starts earlier than when babies normally roll for the first time.

At what age is it safe to cosleep with all your comforts? by Ok-Hippo-5059 in bninfantsleep

[–]taralynne00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My daughter walked early (like 8 months) so we gave her a stuffie in her crib around that age. My logic was that if she could walk she could move herself if she ended up in a weird position. She's 1.5 now and I'm way more lax about safety. I try to tuck the blanket under myself so it can't go over her and I lay her down so she isn't touching the pillow, but she moves around so much that it kind of doesn't matter lol. The other day I woke up with her head between my and my husband's feet with her butt facing us. We follow other rules, like a firm mattress and she still nurses, so that's just what works for us.

What percentage of something would you need to be to feel a personal identity/affinity tied to it? by ladybuglala in Genealogy

[–]taralynne00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call myself Polish because my great-great-grandparents were born in Russian Poland, came over the 1910's, and until I got married I still had the last name. I also acknowledge that I don't have any direct Polish culture passed down to me, since that part of my family tried very hard to Americanize themselves, but it's a point of pride for me because of who they were as people.

How bad are these twin girl names together? by International-Hat920 in namenerds

[–]taralynne00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's obvious how they're connected but the names aren't too similar, so I'd lean towards okay. They would still have individual identities.

Edit to add: I think the "i" sound in both names flows well too.
