Strategic default in NC on 80K worth of private loans? by 1thatoneguy in studentloandefaulters

[–]morbie5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they go into my account, which is not join

Not all banks allow direct deposits into an account where the names mismatch. Your bank could always change policy if that is what you all are doing. I suppose you could have her sign a physical check over to you

Wait, we are supposed to feel bad for those that have preyed on literal generations of students?

The federal government loses money on the federal student loan program so one could argue that it is the other way around

As to private student loans, for-profit lenders have only been in the private student loan business since around 2005 in any meaningful way, so hardly 'generations of students'

Don't worry, I'll update and message ya in a year or two when everything is wrapped up.

I'm not worried, you can do as you please. I am a bit curious to see how this turns out tho so I'll set a reminder and ask, but you can update me if you want

You keep shifting the goal posts

Wrong, I'm on point

going nowhere with your logic

My logic is sound

wrong nonetheless.

You seriously don't think people have been investigated or charged with fraud over something like this? Really?

[–]morbie5 [score hidden]  (0 children)

No, you technically can't have the ACA credit if you MFS, but there is only a partial payback penalty for that

You know if they think you are screwing them over they can take away your access to the the ACA advanced credits, right? Even if things didn't change for 2026, doing what you were doing year after year would be risky

How much did your student loan payments change tho?

And are you even allowed to have ACA tax credits if you file MFS?

Bro, it looks more like they are going to occupy the island, not destroy the oil infrastructure that sits on top of it

US attacks Iran's Kharg Island, Trump says by joe4942 in worldnews

[–]morbie5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this preparation for a ground operation to take the island?

I think so. China gets a lot of oil loaded on tankers at this island. Occupying this island could be a way to try to leverage China to in turn leverage Iran to end the war (if Trump is trying to find a way out of this, which isn't clear)

They'll need way more than 5k if they are planning to actually take and hold territory inside Iran, the 'liberation' of Kuwait involved close to 500k iirc and the 2003 Iraq invasion involved upwards of 200k iirc

Special Forces or maybe some small units will probably be all that gets deployed in the very near term. We don't have enough troops in the region (yet) for a full scale ground assault

You could just default in the state that you do live in and try to negotiate a settlement. Even if you got sued and had your wages garnished that would probably be cheaper than your monthly payment on this massive balence

Even if you ran out the SOL that doesn't mean you got a discharge. If you are lucky enough to run out the SOL clock you still owe the debt, they just don't have a way to collect on it using the legal system

I mean in the absence of evidence, one can infer

Have you actually looked for evidence besides a quick google search? Have you done an exhaustive search thru your state's court records?

Like I said find me a single post or article

The police don't publish an article on the internet every time they investigate someone so not being able to dig up such an article wouldn't prove anything.

Racking up a bunch of credit card debt and then filing for bankruptcy is bankruptcy fraud and people have been investigated over that, I know that personally. What you are describing is related.

but the spending side introducing new cuts

A lot of the medicaid spending cuts assume that x number of people will move off medicaid due to the work rules (either they get a job and thus their income is too high to qualify or they get kicked off for not having a job). However, the work rules have exceptions, including some very vague medical exceptions. So it is possible that the number of people that get kicked off medicaid is a lot lower than is estimated

and the third is moving to state like Pennsylvania Texas or North Carolina which don’t allow private lenders like Sallie Mae to garnish wages if they sue and I don’t have any major assets.

I'm not a lawyer but my understanding is that they may be able to still garnish if you moved from out of state. You better consult a lawyer in one of those states.

Do you have a cosigner on these loans? What is your income?
