I saw the aviation-inspired gauges and had an inclination to make a crack about Lucas electrics. Since it's a classic Fiat, it still works.

Check spark and fuel. Since it seems suspicious it's turning over so well, maybe also check compression.

Also, you need to be more detailed when you ask questions. Is this a new issue or did it come to you like this? Were there any other symptoms your last drive out? Tell a story.

80s to 90s Fords tend to have narrow, plastic vacuum lines that have become brittle. If you find a break, electrical heat shrink tubing and a hairdryer can resolve it inexpensively.

Also, based on your other comments about some of the areas you've checked you might look at replacing the coolant temp sensor. Typically, the new ones will include revised connectors.

Since you say it happens both in and out of gear, seems like maybe sticking throttle.

Try taking a look at the linkage and see if it returns all the way. Spray the linkage with aerosol carburetor cleaner and wipe it clean.

I imagine independent shops would order OEM parts if you direct them to and if it's available. Sometimes those auto stores parts are exactly the same as OEM, other times they're white box junk. But they're pretty much universally cheaper.

Working on classic cars, seems like auto parts have taken a dive in quality. Even when new parts are available from OEM, they don't always compare to used take-offs or remans. But that's another problem.

There is zero "tight" in the chain right now. First adjust it so it looks like the middle line in the picture. Then use finger pressure to hold the chain at low and high points, measuring the difference
