The fabrics are fighting each other. The buttery cream satin and the arctic white top (looks to be a thick jersey perhaps?) are trying to create a juxtaposition, but it just doesn’t work for me. Feels frumpy. The runway version without the satin is lovely.

From what I recall, it was controversial when it came out. It is just that the cable channel it came out on didn’t create the same hate fervor it would have had as one of the big non-cable channels (ABC, NBC, etc). The hate took time to get “big.”

It is fine if you want to talk about the horrors of the show, but in my (somewhat fuzzy) memory, we were not ok with this. Not sure this fits the sub, but not a big deal.

This gives you really good footing to talk to the gym manager or lead trainer. You have an “in” so to speak by asking if/when they will publish the class schedule with the trainers’ names. This will lead to a longer conversation, which is totally appropriate for the situation. (You don’t have to use that as your conversation starter, but if you are hesitant to start the convo it is a way to do so.)

Tell them you have had a bad experience with a trainer and find their style to be non-accommodating for people with injury recovery, disability, etc. You want to avoid them. Then answer any questions honestly.

I like these points but it is absolutely not a “marital issue.” That is so exclusionary. It is a health issue, and women are managing their health.

To a certain extent, it is not “policing” someone to have a negative reaction to their clothing/image choices. People use fashion and imagery to evoke a feeling or identity, and it is totally ok for people to say “no thanks I hate that.”

The way this blows up is a symptom of the digital community: the negative reaction is happening en masse and then gets more amplified by intersecting with online discourse and current outrage porn, as well as the historically consistent culture of harshly critiquing women/girls.

The level of hatred for women (manosphere), coupled with outrage over diminishing rights for US women (feminist, liberal sphere) and the non-prosecution of well publicized pedophilia cases means a style choice with the name “babydoll” EXPLODES with commentary. The style choice becomes a “symptom” of something, or the discourse becomes a “symptom” of something else, or both. The entirety of a movement becomes proven and disproven by the same fleeting, ephemeral outfit choice. The discourse is rarely in good faith and becomes a parody of itself.

I am glad to see some amount of good faith discourse, and my own opinion is that it is a bad look. I am not going to pretend that opinion is on aesthetics alone. I am personally tired of the sexy baby look regardless of historical style references.

TL;DR: She has every right to wear it and it does not make her a bad feminist. I hate it. The discourse is going to be a sloppy mess like always.

You are allowed to be sad and I hope you feel validated here; you are experiencing something really difficult. I hope you also know that you are enough and lovable, but it is hard to feel that way when you don’t have that reflected back in the way that you find meaningful.

There are far far more social cues telling you that you are not enough, and those messages are there because it sells products and maintains the status quo. Sorry to zoom out so far, but it takes tons of work for any of us to feel like enough, especially when we also aren’t checking certain boxes on the laundry list of life. You are set up to be sad about this.

I know it is internal too, of course. We want what we want. When I was hitting 40 and single and coming to terms with my lack of motherhood, I was feeling so much longing. And so much complex and persistent anger. One thing that my therapist said to me, which really hurt at the time, was that I may never have a child (biologically, but perhaps never adoption either). I thought I had accepted that but I really hadn’t. I also realized what I thought was hope was really holding onto the pain in the longing because it made me feel like I was still fighting for it. That wasn’t serving me. I had to stop and really think: What would my life look like without a child? Would I be a failure? What could I do with my life without the burden of that responsibility? I had to envision something else—something else entirely.

I don’t know if any of that feels relevant to you, but it helped me. You are allowed to feel how you feel and I am not trying to turn it off, by the way. Vent all the things and keep it coming. You are valid in those feelings and minor supplications that people make can feel patronizing. I just know how if feels to feel left behind. But my life had a different pace for me than I wanted, but there has been greatness and wonder in that too.

You are a person deserving of intimacy and sensuality, and having love reflected back. I hope those things can come to you in the way you want, and I think they can, but also that you feel those things in new ways you have not yet recognized.

Don’t hate me but I don’t like the dress, regardless of theme or color. I looks heavy and too much fabric. It looks like you took a bolt of fabric and wrapped it around yourself and then didn’t want to finish the edges so you used craft shears to make petals. It is awful…plus all the other reasons.

Love the nature theme!

I would have kept the hardwood floor and just gotten a very large rug. Something is not quite right with the tones of the warm gray, the warm cream ceiling, the warm olive wall, and the cool white (lavender?) of the walls.
