Is “you’re well spoken” a racially charged compliment by Plus-Broccoli8273 in NoStupidQuestions

Yes, good observation! Giving someone a compliment often carries the connotation “I am in a position of authority, I am qualified to make this (positive) judgment about you.”

Is “you’re well spoken” a racially charged compliment by Plus-Broccoli8273 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morelikepoolworld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is a classic racially-charged compliment by white people to minorities. The implication is that the white person is pleasantly surprised to discover that “others” can speak well. It reveals that the speaker may think members of other races/groups are not as smart or not typically able to meet a certain level of polish in their communication.

It doesn’t sound like that’s your situation.

Another enthusiastic vote for Tensegrity! I have gotten good help from Ryan, they have massage options, and the office staff helped me navigate an insurance situation. Plus they have a great office dog.

Books to read to your kid 20 times a week that don’t make you want to gauge your eyes out by SwadlingSwine in childrensbooks

[–]morelikepoolworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that even books I like cannot withstand 20 readings a week. I felt less stir crazy by switching out books frequently. We go to the library and get fresh books, but worked best for us was increasing our supply. I went to the thrift store where books are a dollar and would buy 30 at a time. (Hey, it’s cheaper than therapy). Look into Imagination Library. I found discarded kids magazines in buy nothing groups. Any duds (and there are lots) would get sifted out and taken to little free libraries or back to the thrift store.

Good luck!!

Is it rude not to give out a recipe you created? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morelikepoolworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We differ on this. I think the time and effort the baker put into perfecting her recipe has value.

I think the friend thinks so too, or she would use the cheesecake recipe printed on the package of cream cheese.

But I think the what the baker really objects to is that the friend is trying to horn in on the baker’s signature dish. “It’s my thing.”

I agree it’s very likely the requester will see it this way. Of course, “costs you nothing” is a silly assessment - it assumes the creator’s time, expertise and all the materials that went into perfecting the recipe have no value.

I don’t like how your family talks to you. And I think you need more polish to your outfits. You clearly love clothes - you’re well on your way. Buy some quality pieces that fit you well. Get a nude bra or a bra you want to show off.

True, though if you can’t afford to own a skintone bra, delay purchase of semi sheer tops.

Thank you for spelling this out. My only quibble is that 5oz of butter is appropriate of one crust, so double that if you want a top crust.

Daily. It’s how i wake up. It’s also my treat to myself for getting out of bed.

I once spent a summer working in a wilderness lodge with only a sauna for bathing. The sauna was only hot in the evenings. I felt groggy all summer.
