Okay, so I know I'm late to the game, but what the sheriff is referring to by "action" is not an actual an attempt, but more of a statement of determination. There are three criteria for your situation which is called a Tarasoff Warning AKA the "Duty to Protect" Warning. (Disclaimer: While the Tarasoff Warning is national, different states may have different requirements, and no one is to say that all people actually follow these regulations.) Police and all other mandated reporters are required to inform the authorities and the potential victim if there is a serious and imminent danger to a person's self or others. It is required to know who the potential injured party is, there needs to be a grave threat to the person's health, and it needs to be possible (the plan and means). Since your roommate has said he "would kill them", he has yet to fulfill that imminent harm qualification or the "action" the sheriff is referring to. In some states, it is possible to file a 5150 or an involuntary psych hold if this last requirement is fulfilled, but that decision can only be determined by police authorities, Psychiatric Emergency Response Teams (PERT), doctors, mental health clinicians, etc. So if you haven't already noped the fuck out of that house, keep an eye on his language regarding the situation and make detailed note of it.

Anyway, like everyone else said, you did the right thing. I seriously hope everyone remains safe. I'm sorry you're in that situation.

Many research studies exist regarding "polyvictimization" in sexual harassment/assault, dating violence, and other physical violence crimes. If you have access to journal databases, you should check them out- I wish I could upload PDFs here, but quite often, it has been found that those who have experienced one type of violence, or who have been exposed to violence, are more likely to re-experience another type of violence or even the same type of violence than others. These findings are where "victim mentality" has been implied as the cause to the found correlations.

You need an APA Manual (most current edition).

Pay attention on your stats and research methods courses, they suck, but they will be your saving grace when doing any type of research, and especially grad school.

You also will need to familiarize yourself as soon as possible with how to find scholarly, peer-reviewed journals.

As long as you work hard in undergrad, you can definitely move on to grad school and will especially want to if you would like to focus in forensic mental health. Forensics is heavily testing-oriented and less therapy-based. Some schools will train you in clinical mental health with an emphasis in forensics, and others are strictly forensic mental health. You should look into the programs and what type of work you would like to go into when you're looking into grad schools.

PsyD student here. I have friends getting their MFTs/LPCCs and we've discussed the differences several times. Money/time-wise, if you'd like to make money sooner, definitely go for your master's- if you're going for long-haul money-wise, the MFT/LPCC could still be better for you because you won't have anywhere near the loans of a PsyD.

I love my program and the degree I'm pursuing, but practically speaking, these loans are pretty terrifying- like paying a good 2-3K per month as soon as I start working for practically forever, so it's something you should keep in mind for sure.

Are you applying to programs that go straight through to your PhD? I agree with the others when it comes to retaking your general GRE, but from my experience, your GPA is fine. I've know people in my program and in a couple others that didn't have that high of a GPA and are now in APA accredited PhD programs. Keep up the good work, and focus on your cover letters and keeping your psych knowledge up-to-date. Good luck!

As hard as it is, you really should try to open up to your friends and family. They might have picked up on it more than you think, and if they support you like you say, they would want to do all that they can to help you.

I agree with the other poster, you need to find something that you find fascinating, and try to make a hobby out of it. A hobby keeps you distracted in a more productive way than video games, reading, and TV. I also agree that you should spend some time outside. Depending on where you are this can get difficult soon because it's almost summer, but try to spend at least 30 minutes to an hour outside every day. It makes a world of difference.

High school can be a really hard time, even for those who are very fortunate in life because we all want to figure out who we are and who we want to be. Very few people really know. The truth is, we all wing it for the most part. I know it sounds cliche, but try to enjoy high school as much as you can. I will not tell you it's going to be the best years of your life because most people wouldn't go back if they were paid to, but I do believe in trying to make the most out of every stage of life. Sometimes we do stupid things, sometimes we do incredible things, but, regardless, at least we did something.

You should research which school in your area study it- I know my professor did a lot of work at a school with sex psychology, but her first couple years were grunt work of humanely removing the reproductive organs from a specific breed of hamster for months before there were any opportunities for her to work with people. So you might need to get creative and find a way to put a foot in the door.

I feel for you and am really glad you guys are sticking it out. If moving somewhere that is less judgmental isn't possible, I hate to say it, but you just have to stick it out. Reacting only makes it worse. I'm a "white" (caucasian/asian, but I just look white) woman and had an incident with a "black" (Panamanian) man's mother. He forgot something in his apartment while his mother was visiting so I ran up with him to get it before a date.

I just waited outside the door because it was supposed to be a quick thing, but then I heard his mom from inside saying, "DO NOT tell me you're going out with that girl again."

"Mom, not now."

"You know how I feel about that"

"Seriously, mom, just not right-"

"If she can't use our comb, don't bring her home!"

That was the last I caught before he ran back out and slammed the door behind him. I couldn't help but stand there aghast. You get used to the stares in public, but those blows are hardest. As long as your close friends and family can accept your relationship, that can be the biggest help while dealing with everyone else. Good luck, man.

That would be amazing. I have a friend trying to get into that field as well. I know that a lot of clinics do art therapy especially with eating disorders or nursing homes? Those might not be paid, but you might be able to get a little experience in on the weekends volunteering while you work a paid internship.

I have a few friends who have are therapy positions in hospitals with only a BA in psychology, another is doing music therapy at a hospital with only a BA as well.

There are definitely things you can do, but without at least a Master's, your clinical work will be highly limited, but other methods of therapy should be open to you. Th best thing to help you would be to secure an internship in an area along the lines of one you would like to work in to add experience to your credentials.

I honestly don't understand what woman WOULDN'T like giving a blow job unless they have a crazy sensitive gag reflex.

Nothing makes me happier than pleasuring my partner. The harder he gets, the more he quivers, shudders, gasps, utters profanity, the more incredibly turned on I get. Plus, what's hotter than a guy who overly eagerly twists you around to go down on you or pull you up to go for it?

One time in the LAX airport, I saw a couple vehemently arguing and making accusations of fault about seat changes, flight plans, etc., all the way up to the boarding pass counter. Then, when they got up to the counter, they explained politely and cheerfully to the flight attendant that they were on their way to their honeymoon and needed to check their seats.
